Peace my beautiful family!!
So many of you have reached out asking what I think about African Ancestry and Ancestry.com, since I did both DNA tests. Here is a video where I share my thoughts about both African Ancestry and Ancestry based on my experience with both systems and products. These are JUST MY OPINIONS and experience! In no way am I trying to knock anyone down nor advocate for any system in particular. I just believe it is important when we are on our journey towards self-discovery to have as much information as possible that could be beneficial.
If you’ve had any experiences with African Ancestry and/or Ancestry, feel free to share below with our fellow family members! I pray this information is helpful for you all as you continue on your journeys.
Peace, love, and Black Power

Ancestry.com was founded in 1996; AfricanAncestry.com was founded in 2003 (not up and coming). I'm still going to try AA because it's black owned and learning the tribe of my maternal lineage is pretty dope. My results and countries have changed too many times with ancestry.com to actually believe it but science is dope and interesting.

Having mixed blood and being cut off from my real name (due to slavery), I have no real hopes of knowing what I really want to know. It's why I haven't taken a test yet. I want to know my name. Specifically, real names of my people at the time of transport to America.

I watched Finding Your Roots and they were able to trace one of the people (he was a black actor) back to the first person that came over from Africa on the slave ship. He had a name. That has never happened before or since on the show. That was huge! Obviously, this is so rare and as I said...they have never been able to get that kind of information from anyone else.

@MrThuglife404 yes we come from multiple tribes, however, there are ways to trace a small part of your DNA, isolate it and trace it back to a modern day country. According to our family history, Cameroon lines up with where my mother's ancestors come from. From Benin to Congo 88% approximately of my DNA comes from that region, I have little European DNA, approximately 5%British, 1% Native American and the rest African. Cameroon is my ancestral home in Africa, as well as Nigeria. I have spent time and money researching my family history and our origin, and I can say confidently that I'm proudly Cameroonian 🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲

Omo Nyame You recieved one tribe because Africanancestry tells you what your maternal line or paternal line was before your lineage started getting mixed with Europeans and non blacks. (If your paternal/maternal lineage didn’t start off european and then began being black generations after a european slavemaster and their wives had their way with enslaved Afrikan women & men). That’s that 500-2000 years Africanancestry says they can go far back to. The many tribes you’re expecting started off with slavery when many Afrikan tribes mixed with each other. Some people do get 2 or 3 tribes which means that before slavery and before artificial borders, that side of their family had mixed with those tribes as Afrikans migrated around Afrika way black then. So Djola from Guinea Bissau was what your maternal line was before slavery mixing with other Afrikan tribes began to happen.

The biggest difference is 23and me and AncestryDNA only give regions of African ancestry. These two are more oriented to other than African ancestry. The African databases of these two is way smaller than African ancestry. African Ancestry has the largest African database Gina Paige breaks down that 23 and me has the least AncestryDNA the second most and African Ancestry has the largest African database. I agree with you... I to was disappointed with the African Ancestry, but it was explained to me that Ancestry.com has a larger base( African Ancestry told me that) African Ancestry placed me with a " Central African Tribe, where Ancestry connected me and all of my family( i liked that better) plus it had me being Nigerian at 40% .. African Amcestry gave me my second highest number. Cameroon( Bantu people) at inly 19%( which is where African Ancestry gives me the tribe from)... Where is my Nigerian bloodline??? I was told that Ancestry is both my parents in me... So yes i wanted more of my Nigerian ancestry( African Ancestry didnt give me that.)... My other relatives told me that on my grandfathers side they were Nigerian( Yoruba)... African Ancestry went around this information... So thats what disappointed me. But yes Ancestry has a bigger tree( more links) to work with, African Ancestry is one link of that full tree( thats what African Ancestry told me)

You said that you Nigerian side is from your fathers, correct? When taking African Ancestry if you are a woman you can only take the maternal test which is your mothers family line. If you want to know the exact tribe for your Nigerian side you will need a male from your fathers side ( Father, brother, uncle ) to take the paternal test for you.

Good morning Omo, I have "Ancestry.Com" since 2008 & it's amazing that you did the exact same thing that I did with my "Family Tree". I ask questions about family members that the "Hint Leaf" showed me & I had to confirm with my family as well. Your "DNA" Breakdown is almost similar to my's & I'm from NC, but I never tried "Africa Ancestry" as you did. But I wanted to find out where my ancestors came from, so that I would know who I am. With us Black Americans when don't know where we come from, because wayyyy back then we was never taught our history & it's a shame. That's why us black's are sooo lost & I recommend that y'all do this DNA Test, so at least you would know where you came from.

African Ancestry gives you the tribe you are from that’s it. If you are from more than one tribe I have seen from other videos that they will list them. If you do your mother’s side you will get an African result unless you are European.

My experience was different than yours with African ancestry. I had results from 4 different tribes when I was expecting only one. But when I think about it, it could be possible for my mother line to start out with one people and come in close contact and evolve over time with mingling with other ethnic groups. I guess it would mutate over time. I do not know since I am not a geneticists. Maybe someone could shed light on this and clarify. But, your mother line goes unchanged for thousands of years with no change unless it mutates which is very seldom. African ancestry will not update unless they maybe examine more alleles or snaps or snips whatever it is called and maybe be able to pinpoint the ethnic group more precisely, I do not know. Meaning ten years from now your results will still be Djola people of guinea Bissau due to your specific markers.

I think the African Ancestry dna testing like you say is more specific which is great. I'm glad they were able to narrow it down to 1 tribe for you! However, they do need more tools to go with that. The problems I've seen for African Americans taking African Ancestry is the Euro admixture in our genetics. Some people have said because of this they have received a total Euro tribe result, even with an African American father, and grandfather. I have Euro on both sides, especially my father's father being half white. I think this would prove difficult to find a specific African tribe in my case.

Ancestry isn't as effective as Africanancestry. Ancestry only has 1,300 samples in their database while Africanancestry has over 33,000. I upgraded to Y-dna (111) and also added the autosomal which should take about 2 or 3 weeks to get results. I want the raw data from the autosomal to load into other systems like Gedmatch or 23 and me to see my reults. I'm still learning about my Y dna results but I added more markers to see if I get more info. As of right I have a presumed positive for haplogroup E-M96 but not positive, hoping more markers will narrow down a positive and my understanding of results increases. E-M96 is African but there is more to it but I don't understand it quite yet. I watched lots of videos before doing mine but didn't realize everyone was taking autosomal test so I'm waiting on that.

You may be mixed with another tribe on your father's side, but you have to take the PatriClan test to verify. Again, there's no proof that your fourth grandmother was more than one tribe other than the DNA results, which came back in your case as one tribe. I think this is a case of not understanding how these test work and how to interpret. You have to trace each line from your mom and dad. You only provided your mom's line.

It’s a shared partnership, between Africans on the continent; and Africans in the Diaspora. Kenyans software developers developed the actual Mobile Platform/App. You will also be able to upload you raw DNA, from other Autosomal DNA companies, you have previously tested with, and have AfroRootsDNA’s labs run their analysis. They also will continually be adding more services and features, over time. The CEO, is Mark Bishop The company is Brooklyn New York Based. It’s FUBU. Honey Adeniyi #BlackOwnedDNACompanies The two black owned Ancestry tracing DNA companies. One ( www.AfroRootsDNA.com ) is an autosomal DNA based company, similar to AncestryDNA. Except they don’t yet match you to active relatives, who took their test, because they are new and don’t have the database of customers for that, yet. But they do take the regional and subregional breakdowns of your total Ancestry, a step further than Ancestry and 23andme. Not only does AfroRootsDNA provide a continental, regional, and subregional breakdown of your total Ancestry, but they also test your DNA directly against every person, belonging to each particular tribal and ethnic group, in their DNA reference panel. They then tell you how much of your DNA matched those particular group of people, who identified with being from the same tribe. So, if 23% of your DNA segments🧬 matched the people, in their reference set, who identified as Yoruba, from Ibadan Nigeria 🇳🇬 ; and 15% of your DNA matched the people, specifically, who identified as Mandingo, from Gambia 🇬🇲; and if .01% of your ancestry matched the BaKongo tribe, that’s what they’ll report; and if 15% of your DNA matched to Indigenous Americans, here, in the Americas... then that’s what they will report. Autosomal DNA test analyzes the DNA across all of your family tree branches, accounting for all of your ancestors. Not just one ancestor, on one branch, of your family tree. It’s black owned. Black managed. Black Ran. It’s a shared partnership, between Africans on the continent; and Africans (i.e African Americans Etc) in the Diaspora. It’s FUBU. The cost is $180, for the AfroRootsDNA kit. www.AfroRootsDNA.com This is their commercial: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cKMUYgIR-FE.html ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… The second black owned ancestry tracing company is www.AfricanAncestry.com. They test your MtDNA; and your Y-DNA against every African that they’ve collected MtDNA and Y-DNA from, in their database, and tell you the ethnic groups of the Africans, you matched, and their scientist confidence, in the reliability of your results. Many times you will match to multiple people, from multiple tribes. And it will be difficult to for them to differentiate which tribe your MtDNA and or Y-DNA comes from, in that case. And they will give you all the tribes, in their database, that you match. Sometimes your MtDNA and Y-DNA will come back Native American. Or European. Or Asian etc... and that’s okay. MtDNA and YDNA only accounts for ONE ANCESTOR. Out of atleast 1024 collective Ancestors, going back to your 7th -8th great grandparents. Their test is $300 per test. The CEO and President (founders of the company) are Dr. Rick Kittles (Geneticist); and Gina Paige (MBA) I hope this helps.

African Ancestry’s database is larger for black people than the others. It’s more accurate. Also everyone’s results does not just have 1 tribe. That just means that you’re maternal line just goes back to the one tribe. Also in ancient those countries didn’t exist. So tying dna to regions isn’t the right way to look at it. Tribes migrated all over the continent.

Since you did ancestry, you can download the autosomal dna file (support.ancestry.com/s/article/Downloading-AncestryDNA-Raw-Data) and put it into living dna. Living dna breaks down your dna by ethnicity like african ancestry but they go back 10 generations.
@niyoleo
@niyoleo 4 года назад
Zieynaba Dem It won’t be the same as Africanancestry since Africanancestry tells you what your mother’s lineage was before slavery and the mixing with other Afrikan tribes during slavery. 10 generations ago, AAs were no longer slaves. And even if they were, they were a mixture of several Afrikan tribes already. So unless they’re gonna tell you what tribes your Ancestry was mixed with 10 generations ago, it’s gonna be inaccurate. I personally don’t trust white owned DNA companies cuz they’re known to be innacurate. They care more about collecting & saving your DNA than actually giving their customers accurate DNA results. They only have 1,300 ethnicity samples of DNA around the globe. And if Afrika has way more than 1,300 tribes, how accurate are these results they’re giving to black people? Not to mention, their results changes at least once a year which causes confusion.
@fulaniqueen4607
@fulaniqueen4607 4 года назад
Honey Adeniyi I mean you already took the ancestry.com test so they going based on that, and the mixing of african “ethnicities” start on the continent. African ancestry only gives you the ancestry of one of your grandparents not all of them. They have a larger database imo. I’m african and to me it was pretty accurate
@fulaniqueen4607

@niyoleo
@niyoleo 4 года назад
Zieynaba Dem Actually I’ve never taken Ancestry.com test or any dna test for that matter. If you’re a Continental Afrikan, and you just want to know what else is in you besides your country/tribe, then Ancestry and my heritage dna will be better. But if you’re Afrikan American, afro latino or Caribbean, Afrikanancestry.com is better because their aim is to tell you what your lineage started off as. As an Afrikan you may not like that it only tests one branch but it’s very beneficial for afrodiasporans to know what they started off as before slavery. But I understand your POV. Like, what’s the point of taken a test to tell you what you already know unless you just want to check its validity as a Continental Afrikan who already knows their tribe. Those that were already a mixture of tribes before slavery are those that get 2,3 tribes in their results. Africanancestry has a much larger database than Ancestry DNA and 23&me. People’s results from AncestryDNA changes like once a year as they gather more dna. I have a friend whose ancestrydna results changed 9 months after he got his results and the percentages changed too. That just goes to show that ancestrydna isn’t even sure the first time and isn’t that accurate.
