I have been researching Kente weaving for a while now, and your film is the best I found until now for understanding the weaving technique. Others talk a lot about the meaning of the motifs and the history etc. Thank you so much for making the film and for uploading it. Do you have more materials about the weaving technique?
most primitive items is the fire, using littel piace of burning wood placed where you need the hole i think they not use or need littel hole and if they need probably they carving them whit a pice of metal but if the wood is not deep one rock whit a good shape is the same
I bet walking around In these places barefoot is nice. No worry about broken glass or nails or a screw going into your foot. Just soft, hot sand, cool red dirt, nice dry grass.
Does anyone have any idea where I could buy traditional art? Nothing rare or ancient or anything - I would just love to have some decorative cloth, a jar, or a wood carving made in the traditional style. It's beautiful and interesting.
Etsy would be a good place to start. You will find thousands of choices, and though many sellers may just be dealers, there are probably artisans' cooperatives that list there too.
this may seem like a strange question but do you know what they do with the discarded wood when carving the masks? do they recycle it to use for something else or do they just throw it away?* *(for lack of better way to phrase that part)
Dear Anubis: I went back four years ago and visited my friends. I am 71 years old it is becoming difficult for me to manage the heat in April and May. I had to stick my head under a cold faucet several times to cool my brains. I do have new footage: I have a movie about the masks of The Nunuma people in Kiere, and video of the funeral of the King of Tenkodogo. They are on my channel, and I hope you can find them. Search on Nunuma, and on Tenkodogo.
I like this vid cuz it show other mediums used 2 make items that are traditional 2 location/ppl. The only thing i dont like is why they dupe tourists by faking a mask has been used! Why cant they sell em as jus authentic 'xyz'(country/tribe) mask? Is it that ppl want a 'used' mask w/spirits attached 2 it??
Dear Mr Roy, I'm researching the metal casting technique you document at about 59 minutes and wondered if I could ask you some questions about it. Kind Regards
Hi Chris, It's Piers, we spoke awhile ago on skype, probably a year and a half now. No idea what I was going to ask you, I"ll have another look. Hope you are well! (I just cast five pieces this morning in fact!)
That's what i was going to say,its such a shame,he chopped down that beautiful tree, just for a bloody mask,,,all of this voodoo, witchcraft, poppycock "these people have needed education
If you look at the current satellite images of the area, you'll see that it does not appear to have been deforested in the years since this footage was shot, so they're clearly managing their resources well. They've been doing so for a long time. www.google.com/maps/place/Boni,+Burkina+Faso/@11.565225,-3.3956597,3011m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0xe33bdbd67959871:0x271081507976014c!8m2!3d11.5633333!4d-3.3988354?hl=en
