I am nigerian but lived in gambia for 2 years. My stepdad is also gambian. gambian food is so good almost as good as nigerian food. Thank you for accepting your roots. I live in central asia now and I miss african food so much. Wonjo is so good. On god the fried stuff is so good.
“Almost as good as Nigerian” 🙄🙄 you Nigerians think too highly of yourselves. The arrogance never ceases to amaze me. You can never give another country a compliment without adding some shade.
As A certified Mexican I do agree that african food sounds amazing also the wonjo we call Jamaica or Agua de Jamaica because we have that hibiscus shit too.
I didn't know that you could use hibiscus as a normal drink. That thing is EVERYWHERE at least here in Chile too, but I always though that it was only useful for natural medicine.
Having parents from Ghana, I have mad respect for this dude listing all the food from Africa. I've eaten Jollof, fish patty, (except the fish is replaced with corned beef) and some other things that are THE BOMB. Respect to you.
You mean West African food because I hate Somali food because breakfast is this sourdough pancake like wrap with goat or lamb liver and lunch is literally nasty rice with goat meat or nasty pasta with goat meat (they sometimes cook Italian style pasta too with red sauce which is fire 🔥) and they rarely eat dinner so your on your own with that
DANG AND THATS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
As a Nigerian, Im thinking all African countries have to go to like a Jollof WAR or some shit like that, cause WTF. Give us our shit back man. I dont care who got it first 😂. Also weve got Wonjo too but we call it Zobo. Love your content
This video was great and as someone who is half Senegalese it reminded of how good African food is. I literally described lack as yogurt and oatmeal too. I remember big trays of beef parties at Senegalese parties. The drinks are so good but we call the hibiscus drink bisap. BUT as a Senegalese, I can not let you just talk about jollof rice without Senegal, I saw zoom over it on Google.
Domada reminds me of Ghanaian peanut stew! Its so good, even though I don't really like peanut butter. It's awesome seeing how different African countries have such similar foods.
@@BeautyInTheEyes599 I know u wa up Thomas u remember when we poured the wa er on the teach er top 3 uk moments hahaha I’m laughing so hard could u mind passing the wa er
As a Brazilian I want to say some things: 1) I want to try authentic Gambian cuisine now 2) We eat a lot of Rice, Beans, Vegetables and meats too 3) African cuisine influenced Brazilian cuisine too, especially in the northern eastern coast region of Brazil, like, or better especially Bahia 4) I discovered your channel yesterday and I love your content!
Every west African country eat this type of food but with different ingredients or sometimes is the same thing but with a different name.btw I'm African (Nigerian)
I'm Mexican and I have a Muslim friend from Somalia who introduced me to African food and it's so amazing, I fell in love with it but it was in a restaurant in a different city so I'm on the hunt for a nice African food restaurant close to me.
As an African person I’ve never related to a Videos so much my mom‘s food is Bussin Bussin and I do not want to leave this house for college but luckily I’m very far away from that. And just for fun sometimes I like to call Joloff rice party rice because we always eat it at African parties and it’s so good and also Nigeria does have the best jollof rice!
This video was lit I figured most African dishes have a lot in common just sometimes the Change in the names and stuff. Buh no cap the jollof rice here in Nigeria is a bomb 😅. And the fufu too.
Jollof is another pronunciation for Wolof(see Jollof kingdom). I’m not confident on the whole history but it’s certain Nigerians calling that Jollof has something to do with Senegal and thiep
In french-speaking West Africa we say jollof rice - thieb domada - mafè fish patty - pastel wonjo - bissap (aka the best drink ever, no debate) lakh - dèguè those round donuts - dokor (idk if they call it the same outside of Benin, where I'm from)
African food is cool and all but as an American ya’ll can’t outmatch the wide diverse array of American food, shit slaps. I mean u got burgers, fast food…b-burger
Fellow cameroonian translation: Jellof rice, Peanut steaw (they didn't try), damada is a no no, we got fish rolls (if you a freak like me you dip it in pepper/fish sause), we got a blood tea(taste like grass), then we got wata gari its just gari soaked in water with sugar and peanuts, lastly PUFF PUFF (you can eat this with anything)
actually in the Philippines there is a food similar to domada. It’s called kare kare. Idk how to cook it but Ik it’s basically a peanut butter stew lmao
North Korean food is 🔥🔥🔥 The best food there is less than a cup of rice, a wild grasshopper, grass found in the ground, and less than a half a glass of water 😋😋😋
Im Hatian and y'all food definitely influenced us a tiny bit in some areas. Rice with Saucepa (idk how to spell it just make it) like my favorite thing to gourge. But that peanut butter soup is soooooo good man
Im half Gambian and Tamil and my parents divorced when I was like 11 but I remember that Gambian food culture was so nice at parties, where everybody would sit around the table and eat from the same big as plate with spoons, and damn my fav desert was chakiri I think it was called, and I think I prob ate 7-8 portions of it bcuz it was soo good. Idk if It was normal but we would sometimes add raspberry sauce at the top.
Togolese and Ghanaian here 🇹🇬🇬🇭 Donda: Azidetsi/Groundnut soup and you can have it on white rice or with Fufu The porridge dessert thing: Degue soooooo good Wonjo: Bissap!! I know they also call it this in other francophone countries Jollof: Riz au gras/thiebouu djienne if we just cook it the Senegalese way. The fried donut: Botokoin🇹🇬/Bofrot🇬🇭 and the French call them beignets The vid was hilarious bro! Glad I discovered your channel, new sub for sure :)
IM NIGERIAN AND JELLOF RICE GOOD AND THAT LIKE PANCAKES THING IS LIKE DELISH I EAT IT LIKE EVERYTIME WE HAVE AN EVENT THATS MY FAVE FOOD and we call is donut 😎
If you want REALLY spicy food, also try suya & pepper soup. Nigerian delicacies. Also, Nigerian porridge too. It’s not liquid like the American one. It’s more like yam but SUPER spicy
I know all of these food and my mom makes it ALL the time and it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!
i found your channel recently. I'm african-american and found out through ancestry DNA im mostly Nigerian, so I've been looking for more nigerian and african food to try but it's impossible to find in the US. hopefully I can experience my ancestry and culture in depth some day
I’m not surprised your Nigerian. Many of us African Americans have West African ancestry and Nigerian makes up a large portion of where we’re descended from. Plus I already got Nigerian friends and I also took a DNA test which revealed I was mostly Nigerian with a bit of Senegal in me so that’s a win win. I suggest you go to New York to find African/Nigerian food. New York has one of the highest populations of Nigerians in the country
As a Nigerian, the beans cake thing is called moi moi here and the Yorubas make it very spicy. It's so versatile and we can also eat it with jollof rice ( best in the world) and extra 10 points for you not liking fish, fish sucks 😞 It's nice seeing different variations of the same African meals in different countries. Even though we are so far part, food still brings us together 😊
Omg the olele is definitely what we call moi moi in my country, it's basically beans pudding and it is fiiiire!😂 Now it is so interesting how it is called olele in the Gambia and elele in some parts of Nigeria. The wonjo drink is popularly known as zobo in my country and you are right, the stain of zobo on a cloth hardly comes off. It is sooo nice and definitely cheaper than soda.
3:08 Looks like Nigerian Zobo drink ... but we make ours with zobo leaves not hibiscus 🌺 Gambian food seems fire bro 😎 thanks for sharing the idea with us!!!
I'm from Cameroon and I can relate with so much. Like the food is pretty much the same thing as in my land but in my land they put in almost every plate dried fish. That video really made my day ( fish is disgusting)
The peanut butter stew aint weird for me at all, we got a dish called Kare Kare and it's basically pork/beef with some vegetables and a peanut butter based sauce.
