SOUTH AFRICA IS A RAINBOW NATION(Thank you University of Stellenbosch )thank you Andre Van de Merve, united we stand👋👏👋👏👋👏👋🙏🙏🙏, in South Africa we are one👋🤞
Choirs I now do most of my singing in the pews at church on Sundays. I have now not been at church for over a year because of COVID-19 and I am 83 years old. Two months ago I discovered this choir on You Tube. I now listen to it every year night before going to bed What wonderful music. Cheers from Ottawa Canada. Love
This is extraordinary for a number of reasons: Stellenbosch University was, for most of its history, an Afrikaans and historically white university (meaning it did not allow black people as students during apartheid). This choir is singing songs that would have been banned during apartheid, particularly song 2 is an anti apartheid protest or "struggle" song. And the songs are in languages (isiXhosa and isiZulu) that are not native to a big chunk of the choristers, one assumes. Just amazing...
I just discovered this magnificent choir, which I saw is deservedly number 1 in the world. I'm here from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I discovered South Africa when I was 12 years old in 1982, it was another reality, and I've been following the country's historical evolution, very happy with everything they have achieved and produced. And this beautiful choir is a beautiful legacy for our increasingly complicated world. Congratulations on this talented work and the message of unity you convey!! I hope to be lucky enough to see you performing here in Brazil, because Brazilians need this message from you!!
Definitely!! I'm a big fan, more than ten years, and they saved me from the worst moments in my life. It would be a dream have them performing in Brazil!
This great choir carries on a remarkable South African tradition, dating back centuries and given added life in the struggle against apartheid: That tradition is mobilizing the language of music and sending it into battle.
I hope this type of video will inspire my granddaughter to push herself to obtain a place in this wonderful uni . I sent this to her this evening .She spending school holiday with us and a joy to have her here. Blessed to have 5 beautiful grandchildren living close to hand .
Wow, wow, wow! When people come together to do what they love and defy all negativity. This gives me so much hope for this country. Thank you Andre, SU and the choir. I am bringing all my friends and family to the concert on 23 Sep in Pretoria.
Loads more. Search for Tygerberg Children's choir. University of Pretoria Camerata, Nelson Mandela Metro University, Stellenbosch Libertas choir. South Africa love to sing!
@@emptycell I said that it is "in this choir", which was virtually all white not so many years ago. I intentionally did not say the SA has gotten to Mandela's dream. The Rainbow Nation exists as a dream, a hope, for most South Africans, not a reaity yet. There is still too much racial separation, too much grinding poverty among most blacks, and many divisions and problems.
You are amazing and inspirational. Your musicality is first rate and selection of music wonderfully appropriate. Your performances of Baba Yetu, Die Donker and African gospel music leave me wanting more. You have an extraordinary director who is remarkable and professional with his connection with each member of the choir. I think of you along with other South Africans--Nelson Mandela, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Miriam Makaba, Nadine Gordimer, Trevor Noah, Hugh Masakea, and honorary South African Paul Simon. As an American (Seattle), you give me great hope for the future that it is possible to overcome racism and political strife even in the USA.
Dear singers, I thank you so much for this and other songs. I cannot help but always think: this is what the world should be like. All humans are siblings. Raise your souls, stop worrying about all the little daily angers.
Hahaha I over thought it . I thought you meant Hermione's coz they sound megical . The sopranos go so high. I feel a little embarrassed it was so obvious and I over thought 🤦🏾
i think i just exhausted my store of goosebumps... oh my!!! never ever have i seen or heard something more beautiful. God richly bless you for blessing my heart

Stellenbosch University Choir gives us a glimpse of what singing in heaven looks like......Such amazing voice, and I love the bass on the background.... It looks as if God himself is speaking.
These young musicians sing with such excelling sound and soul, putting body and spirit into play. In my many years of loving and making music, I’ve never heard or seen ANYTHING comparable. My heartfelt thanks to each one and to their incredible director, who guides this treasure of talent with understated brilliance.
