It peaked in the 1980s when there was a "Doble Kara" contest in one of the famous noontime TV Show. But prior to that, "Doble Kara" is commonly performed in fiestas for entertainment purposes way before the 70's. Usually, contestants will sing a duet of the man and woman doing both parts with props dressed as a woman on one side and man on the other side. Marcelito is doing the "Doble Kara" singing without the "traditional props."
