I never knew of the trailers/////that is something new....I tell you I am so fascinated by african violets...So far mine are growing pretty good...Even the ones I got from amazon are doing well....I enjoy watching your channel..thanks for sharing.......MINDY
Love it! Keep em comin! Not too many AV videos coming out right now. I need my fix! I think you should just record everything you do with your AVs! They are so beautiful and amazing! Waiting with bated breath for your next videos!
Я тоже - для меня весь процесс по уходу за этими прекрасными растениями похож на волшебство. И когда получается хорошо, так радостно видеть их цветение!
Thanks for sharing two simple but very practical tools that I hadn't thought of using before...a manicure stick and white electrical tape. Electrical tape is easy to remove without leaving sticky residue behind so it will be perfect for labeling plants. Have a wonderful day!
Did a stick similar to yours , makes it a lot easier for me to separate the suckers . That flat part works wonders plus was able to replant most suckers . Thanks
I love your videos they are brilliantly descriptive & so clear. Thank you so much. X .. I’m in the Uk. Could you please tell me what I would mix with perlite to pot into? Once babies are watered & put into their ‘houses’😅 do you just leave them or do you keep watering please ? Bless you again cheers Valerie
Thank you, glad they are helpful! I mix perlite 50/50 with ProMix BX. I keep observing them once they are in the mini greenhouses, and water them only when the soil surface looks dry.
1/4 teaspoon of DynaGro 7-9-5 N-P-K per gallon of water, sometimes alternate with 1/8 teaspoon of Jack’s Classic 20-20-20 N-P-K per gallon of water. I use wick watering method, so I add the fertilizer to the wicking liquid most of the time, and give them a break twice a year for a couple of weeks, with plain water only.
Your videos are so informative and helpful. I've referred many people on social media to your page here! One question concerning this particular Opera Dock(sp?) Do you remember where you got the container that the baby is planted in? I love it! Appreciate you 🙂
Appreciate your feedback, glad it’s been helpful! Here is a link to the 9 oz plastic dessert cups, on Amazon: Golden Apple, 9 oz Clear Plastic Sundae Cup 30sets with Dome lids no hole. Disposable Dessert Bowls, Frozen Dessert a.co/d/2EentsV
Thank you! I keep the babies in domed propagation trays, and some in plastic bags, which help keep the humidity inside, so I water only when I see that the potting mix has become dry, usually about every 2 weeks or so. Check out my mini greenhouses video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-32xrK05XdoA.html
I’ve AV’s that don’t bloom. I gave them all the quality care that they need such as temperature, humidity, fertilizer, etc. but still no blooms. What must have gone wrong.
It's hard to tell without looking at the plant, a couple of things to look into: (1) making sure it receives sufficient light, and (2) adjusting pH of the potting mix - ideal, according to Optimara, is 5.8-6.2. Some varieties bloom more readily than others, and others bloom better in natural light vs artificial light, e.g. my Opera Doc trailer blooms only in natural light. Here is my lights set up, check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-axTu2oq2Uy4.html
How often do you water these small suckers and the one leaf propagations please? I do not have a mini green house or grow lights. I live in New Jersey so winter now 2/26/23. I have my violets in an east window.
The pot size for African Violet standards is 4 inches. Basically, the pot size should be 1/3 of the diameter of the plant - when they are root bound, they bloom best. So, if the plant measures 12 inches across, then a 4-inch pot will work, whereas a 9-inch plant would do best in a 3-inch pot.

On Amazon, these are 9 oz Clear Plastic Sunday Cup 30 sets with Dome lids no hole, or disposable dessert bowls. There are different sizes, too. They work great!
@@grayturtleviolets I'm watching your video from April 26 right now. I ordered the domed cups from Amazon. I am growing my first violet and reading all I can about these charming plants. It had a small sucker, which I wanted to learn how to handle, so thank you. When I popped it off, it had two roots. So I have it in water in a tiny cup in a plastic sandwich bag until my potting soil and desert cups arrive.
@@kathleenspracklen6849 That's great, it will adapt much better since it already has two roots of its own! Just make sure the water doesn't get into the sucker's crown center. Happy growing!
It can get this white in the cooler growing temperatures, and it gets greener when it warms up in spring. I used to feed it some Epsom salt, to green it up, and now I just let it be. Congrats on the new violet! You will enjoy it!
