The commander of U.S. military forces in Africa testified before Congress Thursday about support for French efforts to fight terrorism in the Sahel amid reports that the Trump Administration is considering withdrawing troops from the region. U.S. Africa Command General Stephen Townsend told lawmakers that American forces in Africa are critical to maintaining Washington’s ability “to fight across the globe.”
