Afrobeat evolved from West African folk music. It was later mainstreamed by Fela Kuti who integrated Jazz rhythms into the local folk music, back in the 60s. In the last two decades, Afrobeat has acquired a pop sound which has pushed it into global dominance. Reggea and Dancehall on the otherhand were popularized during Bob Marley's time in the 70s. It doesn't necessarily predate Afrobeat, which is rooted in ancient West African folk music. However Reggea & Dancehall have been internationally commercial longer than Afrobeats has. That's pretty much the main difference.
As soon as he 🤡said early 2000's I stopped it & went straight to the comments🤦🏽♂ I initially clicked on it looking for a definitive explanation on the difference between the drum timing signatures. I have a general idea but sometimes it's hard identifying the exact genre as there are more & more crossover sounds blending today.
Afrobets now and what you mentioned are different. This modern day Afrobeats has a lot of Dancehall influences, also Reggae was since the mid to late 1950's not 70's and it was before the original Afrobeat
You are speaking out of pure ignorance! Afrobeats is mostly a creative repackaging of Nigeria's ancestral rhythms, using modern musical instruments. Dance Hall *DOES NOT* have the seductive, pulsating, melodious and irresistible groove that influences Afrobeat! Here's an example of Afrobeat being played in a Nigerian rural area. We have thousands of different genre! Our artistes replace native percussion with modern musical. And, then, add complex bass line, chord progression, etc. Africa is the root of Rhythm, and when we repackage any ancestral rhythm with modern musical instrument, everyone would hear their tune. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mRhZ3A5COmg.html
I swear when i heard Afrobeats for the first time, i thought it was Dancehall. It's crazy how Afrobeats took so much from the Jamaican Dancehall and refused to give credit to them.....
@@Tam... If you visited Nigeria, and sampled some ancestral rhythms, you'd swear that Dancehall resembles ancestral music. Reggae and Dancehall do not have the pulsating, seductive, groovy, melodious and irresistible rhythms that influences Afrobeat. Afrobeat is just a repackaging of ancestral music with modern musical instrument. Here's one of the ancestral genres that influences Afrobeat as it is played with native instruments in the rural areas. You will hear echoes of Dancehall. Well, did Dancehall influence the music we have been playing before slavery? You sit in your little corner, and make statements out of ignorance. (Listen with good earphones, so you can hear the bass, which is played with clay pot) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mRhZ3A5COmg.html
dancehall is not the "grand parent" of what hip hop is. the grand parent of hip hop music is the black american music the preceded hip hop. that's like saying dancehall influenced funk, soul, jazz, blues and ragtime music.
Afrobeat is much older than Danceall or even reggae and it is not derived from Dancehall. Afro-beat was created and originated by Nigerian artist and musician Fela Kuti in the 60s I am sure you donot know who is that. 99% of all Afro-beat songs are sang in a West African dialect called Pigeon English. Some Afro-beat artist may have used Jamican dialect to an extent but 99% of Afro-beat are sang in Pigeon English. Danceall beats are different from Afrobeats. Danceall beats are created by computers while Afrobeats riddims and beats are created naturally. You all Yardman always claiming something is not yours, give respect to the Africans for creating Afro beat.
This dude said, *"Afrobeat is pretty young!"* The ignorance made me laugh so HARD! I couldn't even listen beyond that. You guys are just discovering some of the grooves we have been dancing to since creation, before slavery! Afrobeats is mostly a creative repackaging of Nigeria's ancestral rhythms, using modern musical instruments. All the music claiming to be the origin of Afrobeat do NOT have the seductive, pulsating, melodious and irresistible groove that influences Afrobeat! Here's an example of Afrobeat being played in a Nigerian rural area. We have thousands of different genre! Our artistes replace native percussion with modern musical. And, then, add complex bass line, chord progression, etc. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mRhZ3A5COmg.html

@@killydon908 I initially clicked on it looking for a definitive explanation on the difference between the drum timing signatures. I have a general idea but sometimes it's hard identifying the exact genre as there are more & more crossover sounds blending today. So as you mentioned Afrobeat has a more accented/busier snare on the upbeat right?
@@killydon908 bro why carry much feelings, afrobeats is from Afrobeat which is the Fela sound, it didn’t come from dancehall, y’all claim what is not yours, when you fuse Afrobeat with other genre you get Afro fusion and burna fuse Afrobeat a lot, so don’t say it come from there, because they use patois in its music does not mean it’s dancehall. Y’all just argue blindly or want to claim what is not yours, you know what the person said was right that why you went to insults: lol
