i also switched from 8 to 8,25 twiwn tails, i think you should have set it up with new trucks to size right away. the truck offset makes honestly way more difference then the extra deck width. also then your bushings are fresh and you dont have grooves in your trucks yet so you can take full advantage of the twin tail

I'm a taller guy and I've always felt kickflips and switch flips feel better on longer boards felt better and I believe it's because the length helps with keeping the board stay straight in the air. I'm 6'2" and skate 8.38 x 32.25 and 8.75 x 32.5. If you are a bigger person more wood means you will probably not break boards as often. but they are heavy so get lighter trucks and smaller wheels or don't skip leg day. Wheelbase definitely effects things but I've been skating for 25 years 14.25 to 14.5 seems to be what works for me, but I have a theory that wheelbase is a size that should be determined by rider physical size or what the skater is skating. But I've noticed taller skater 6'+ going short wb, it not really working out and going but up or skater that skate real fast (bowl\transition\vert\hill bombing). Sorry for the nerdy term paper.

I used to ride an 8.5 board, downsized to an 8.25 for a brief time before i moved to size 8 boards. I'm a size 13 so it might look funny, but a smaller light board helps with pop and allows for more tech tricks. Plus it's for that 90's and 2000's steez factor.

Super curios about how bigger trucks would impact your crooks. I am thinking of upping my truck size for basically that exact reason. If you do stick with that board size and get bigger trucks I personally would really appreciate an update. Also just want to say you always make skating look like so much fun, some other dudes make it look like work. Just appreciating your style I guess. Thanks man!

I bet changing to wider trucks will feel more different than a wider board and same trucks. Hard to explain, but it will shift the feeling of the grinding surface under your feet. Been there a few times. It's fun to have many setups though. Some people say they can't do it, but for me the more I have, the more I switch it up, the faster I can adapt each time.

It’s interesting seeing pros talk about the details of their skateboards. I’ve never known what size I skated, understood the truck size differences, and wheel dynamics back in my skating days. I just bought what I could afford to get. Now that I have adult money, and getting back into skateboarding. Wanting to figure out what board would work for me is something I’m interested in. I’ve heard a lot of stuff about twin tail boards and twin nose boards. Seeing this makes me wanna try giving the twin concept a chance. I use to use my nose as the tail because it was bigger, and it felt like it popped higher. So seeing these kind of decks being a thing, ima have to try it out

I'm convinced board size correlates with skate style as well. Bowl is more popular than ever and I could imagine a bigger board (& trucks!) helps locking in and cruising there. However, for us who like flip in flip out tech stuff the quicker pops and flicks from the smaller boards should simplify the process.
@XSw1ftJam3sX
@XSw1ftJam3sX 6 месяцев назад
The pointier nose doesn't have the bulk to flick the kickflip closer to where your hardware is causing you to have to extend your flick further out and the smaller trucks doesn't give you the same range of where you can pinch the grind resulting in you not being able to get as much angle when you do pinch into the grind
@XSw1ftJam3sX
@XSw1ftJam3sX 6 месяцев назад
I prefer 8.5 trucks on 8s, like widening stance on a car, makes the board feel more planted and helps with getting into grinds and stops the board from tipping on certain flip tricks for a more level pop off of the nose or tail especially with how tight I skate my trucks
@johanneskrv
@johanneskrv 7 месяцев назад
Tip if you want to start skating a wider or especially longer board without changing how the timing feels when doing tricks: You have to also make your setup higher either by using riser pads or by skating bigger wheels. It really works

The size change in trucks will be much more significant than the board size change. try this first before getting new trucks. My SUPER TIP for you: add a few (3 or so to start) washers to each axel, on the inner side of the wheel to push your wheels out, making your truck wider without the added weight of a real truck size change. And if the extra washers prevent the nut from being secure on the axel threads, just put some shoe goo on the end of the axel/nut. Strong enough to stop the nut from spinning but weak enough to be able to screw off with a skate tool.

Bro, this is so relatable to me right now, im in th same place considering going up to 8.2 from an 8, i used to religiously ride a 7.75 and my reasoning for favoring it was due to its lite weight requiring less effort to flip. However ive taken to 8s in the last 2 years and thinking an 8.2 would be more suitable to me in a it jus fits my skating and type of tricks i do better kinda way.

Wicked Tom, I'm finding 8.25 is around my optimum size (for a pretty crappy beginnerish, old man skater 😂) I'm skating the Fabi Delfino Santa Cruz 8.25 powerply, which I'm loving from the first session on it. Poppy af, and flipping/shuving good. I def think matching truck size will help with feeling and locking in a little better 👍🏾

Between 8:00 - 8.5 all my tricks I can do but either size has its pros and cons leveraged, you could say 8.25 is a happy medium but personally I like either all the benefits of a wide deck or all the benefits of a skinny deck and 8.25 feels like I'm missing out on both rather than just picking 1 , I skate 8.125 at the moment and I'm sure I'll change again at some point but I'm enjoying how easy it is to tre compared to my 8.5

I used 8 board but felt it was to small. I then went to 8.25 with 8.25 both thunder and venture trucks. But then it felt to wide. Then i discovered that many pros use 8.125 and thats the secret formula. I been trying out both april 8.125 and disorder 8.125.. April has shorter wheelbase and disorder has longer wheelbase och short tail. But 8.125 feels small enough to do all the flip tricks while having extra support. And you can use 8 trucks on 8.125!!

Maybe u have to come more at an angle to get in a bit, big spin back tails might have to pop more away than before, but everything will start to feel the same when u adjust and then feel even better than before and relaxed and comfortable, cuz I can already tell, your tricks look more comfortably done and relaxed... Even though u actually have to try harder in a way, but not really when u consider how comfortable u look enjoying the trick instead of really getting stuff so precise and strict, idk

Skating bigger boards is such a transition, i stick to 8", but I've definitely experimented with sizes ranging from 7.5" - 8.25". I realized i like a slightly longer wheelbase and most size 8s are shorter wheelbase. Changing sizes is such an awkward thing at first.

Also I think the kf crook was only because the trucks are slightly shorter than the board so your board hits the ledge a split second before your truck does due to the overhang. Idk I'm just spitballin' 😂

Im oldschool so i grew up skating small boards rode everything in 7.0-7-75 in the 2000s , so now I tried 8 for a year enjoyed it but I just feel more comfortable on the 8.25 which im skating again now , the smaller boards I think are more difficult but help you get your tricks cleaner there is less room for error on a small board.

I ride 8.5 thunder team hollows on an 8.25 Crailtap twin tip. Locks into fs crooks and fs feebles nicely

I moved up to 8.25 after skating 8.0 for 6 months and I really liked the 8.25 better
