All good things come to those who wait ;) In all seriousness, as a newcomer to the Soundtoys universe, I am quite pleased with this addition. Like their other ones, it has simultaneously a "true to the past" and "forward-thinking" approach and if anyone could put new life into plates, it would be them.
Never owned Soundtoys plug-ins, yet. I will grab a bundle at some point. No mistake, I do like them a lot, just happened to buy others first. The super plate was great. They've always impressed me with excellent audio effects.
Great review! I love Soundtoys plugins and use them all the time. I'm surprised there doesn't appear to be any auto-gain, and no tempo sync for the pre-delay? Also the dials don't have any numerical readouts? I guess that makes the plugin truly authentic. Very nice!
I installed yesternight. Sweet plugin but the non resizable Gui was something i did not expect. Also the graphics of soundtoys (i have the bundle) begin to look old somehow
@@whitenoisestudio yes the price i could not say no. It just occured to me that i thought “maybe its time for an Gui update” By that I don’t need a total rehaul, but it will be enough to make it a little, “ sharper-more lively color-less 90s looking” , looking and resizable. The new plugin could be a nice start but …… but it is what it is i guess. This makes me appreciate more agile developers more somehow. But superplate has a great sound i have to admit that
Yeah you sum it up nicely. I was actually thinking that maybe soundtoys had guis which were a bit better than was available 15 years ago. But zero updates on that front from them .
UAD is clearly smoother and warmer, while the SuperPlate is more three dimensional - I also found it a tinyyy bit 'spiked' in the highs. I would probably use the UAD if I'm in a retro/vintage production, and the SuperPlate if I'm in a modern one. Disappointed by the Abbey Road.
I'm wondering how you would compare the CPU hit of the Super Plate with the Abbey Road Plates. Abbey Road Plates eats CPU cycles for breakfast. How does Super Plate compare? Thanks for another great video!
I'm not buying another product from this company till they fix their GUI resolution. Sure, you can run it in compatibility mode, but then everything else is blurry. 4k monitors have been out for how long now? I thought they were in farming mode with their software till they updated to VST3, and then they only did the absolute minimum. There are better developers out there with just as good products like Eventide (who have plugins that scale).
Maybe. It took them LONG for sure. going vst2 to vst3 isn't simply slapping a wrapper on it though. They also worked on m1 version if I recall correctly. But yeah. Took way too long.
Im not getting it, I own better and they are resizable, with way better gui's and quicker workflows also if I'm not wrong you have to pay to upgrade? For me Soundtoys dropped the ball about 3 years ago.
You had to wait 5 years for soundtoys to do something and all you got was a overly common reverb plugin. Oh, I'm sorry, you could BUY PRESETS all these years. LOL This company dropped the ball a long time ago.
Don't get me toxic but these devs are one of my most overrated and overvalued I try to stay away!!! There's a plenty of devs nowadays and reasons to create your own "collections" of plugins like showpieces in the museum but I think we've already met doorsteps of the era of balance between price and versatility/flexibility. 1. It's gonna be really incredibly rare case to Plate reverb would be crucially claimed so that all the produced track couldn't do well without exactly this type of reverb. 2. IMHO, there's barely anything may stand against Bitwig modulation possibilities, even if you have "cut" version like 16-tracked or newly announced "Essentials" or "Producer", still they are quite flexible from the point of modulation range. Yes, there's no exactly plate reverb vibe back from... 1957?!!! Seriously?!!! But... 3. If you still don't believe your forces and don't trust your hands... there's a Convolver by Kilohearts for $39 against $149 for Superplate by Soundtoys 😂 Or you can initially choose smarter way and grab Bitwig for $299 where their native "Convolution" reverb will allow you to put literally any thing and gain any result. Damn, even free Valhalla Supermassive processed vocal tails can be reversed and input into the same vocals' Convolution reverb! 🤯Only your creativity's limit. 😁 Summing up, Soundtoys plugins made their hype their days but for me there was never anything extra seemed to be enough to buy them. And for God's sake... someone, stop looking back to gone 50s-80s and look back to 2060s!!!😈
