On the true 1.0, there were only 4 nations in NA : Shawnee, Creek, Cherokee and Huron. Aztec, Zapotec and Maya were the only three in mexico, and Inca was alone in SA. I might be wrong but that is my memories of the game. Great stuff !

You're correct except for the Incas, as the Chimu were also around. I also remember that Tunis had Tripoli under a personal union, and the inland nations in north Africa may not have existed.

Should have shown the anti-blobbing mechanics they had back then. The more you owned, the longer it took to core things up. Had a massive France run that I just abandonned because I couldn't do anything else.

As you said, launch EU4 feels a lot like EU3. Even the load times seems similar, the biggest difference is that EU4 started Paradox "sliderphobia" and cemented "manaphilia".

My main issue with Paradox is that they constantly seem to be trying to find ways to screw the games' UI, this persisted until HOI4 which was the youngest game on the clausewitz game engine. Thankfully the new generation of Paradox's games such as Vic 3 and CK3 seem to have this fixed, lets hope they don't break them too as time goes on.

Yo, Ludi! You forget how not only you had to core your colonies, but when building forts you built them on plains to avoid the penalties. IE, an enemy is attack your fort and you rush in to its defensive you got treated as the attacker and got any and all penalties.

Great video. I started to play EU4 in early 2014 and compared to now, EU4 has improved A LOT during this time. What I would've liked to see would be a war between 2 countries, because the siege system was completely different

I'm sure this isn't exact day 1 version. From what I remember, Manchuria and Tibet started unified (Buryatia didnt exist), QQ was green, there weren't that many natives in Americas, only few big tribes on north and only Aztecs, Zapotecs and Maya existed in Central America, no minor nations under Tunisia and around unified Ethiopia, no Yarkand. Manchuria got split during Art of War patch, so it's probably post AoW?

I actually liked the old mission sysmtem. For example, as ottomans you'd get the take constantinople mission most of the time so you could declare on byzantium day 1. You'd also get like subjugation casus belli on smaller nations which is not so frequent in the diet system sadly..

From what I remember, Buritaya got removed as a tag during the Mandate of Heaven dlc. I don’t know why I remember that specifically, I guess it just stuck with me

Rebels used to actually be very strong. Persia popping out of the religiously disunited Timurids was the norm. Also funny how Ludi was talking about revels not enforcing anything as Hungary was collapsing to rebels, who forced them to break into Croatia and Kiev

Ludi, if you take Sinai from the Mamluks and one other province so you separate their African provinces from the Asian ones, the Asian provinces will count as colonies and they give 0 tax income and cost no warscore it was the most amazing strat back then

#1, thank you for reminding me how much progress has been made in this game #2, thank you for pointing out to the Devs that their code is in dire need of optimization. A game from 2013 shouldn't be bogging down on a PC built in 2022, regardless of how much new content has been added.

I used to play in EU4 back in 2014-2015, it was really hell game, doing world conquest was actually HUGE skillgap, i love EU4 but i do not miss old versions, it was really heavy to play and clumsy, i enjoy new patches, after common sense this game started getting huge value and each update i was so happy to see new things. The thing im missing most i think is that they removed some aspect that made this game really hard to play. Best decision was to remove every fort province i think, it was really hard to get any war score and small nations took YEARS to snowball

Paradox creates flavorless games by design and then sell you the flavor through countless DLC. They have what can basically be described as a monopoly on the grand strat genre and thus can make way more money with less effort this way.

It just make sense, as they develop the concept of mana, if you need to build something you have bureaucracy, that's it, later on mana became magic, now is a lil better

Timurids were the first nation I ever tried back in 2014 when I picked it up. Had no idea how CBs worked, no-cb-ed Oman and couldnt figure out how to get my troops across the gulf lmao. I can't remember what DLC/version was current at the time, but Square Memel and basetax were burned into my brain forever since then. What a long, strange trip it's been

Vassal and Personal Union mechanics were very interesting as a beginner, and simple blobbing was fun. Had a good time only in Europe but still plenty of content. Now the game is light years ahead as in early 2024. Also the game is coming to its content end. Amazing job to dev teams of EU4, a big hobby of my life.

Are you sure you got the absolute launch version? I swear old Mexico used to only have Aztecs and Mayans, not the surrounding minors. Manchuria was just the Manchus, and Ottomans didn't have that one province border with Hungary.

I never played the Launch version But when I started playing I found DLC-s too confusing (I played with friends who had them all before Leviathan) So I played "vanilla" I do not regret buying DLC's *ptsd of 100's of ships who died to make it to the new world*

Its good to know that someone knows about origins of Turkish culture and history. In addition they could also merge with Kazakh group since the roots are the same and even today we speak almost the same. Its shame they changed it into Levantine. Its the same issue with Timurids since they where Uzbek ruling over Persia but it seems they managed it right unlike the Ottomans

I actually play right now without any DLC, although obviously all the patches and updates. When it's on humble bundle next I'll buy it, but I do worry suddenly getting all the DLC at once will change the game so much I won't know what I'm doing again!

It's not that there's spaghetti code, because Paradox games work as intended for the year they were released in. It's actually more of a bathtub case of programming. The tub is filled to the brim and what Paradox simply needs is a bigger tub.

Patch 1.10 is not earliest downloable version Ludi, its patch 1.4 which is the first DLC version.

not true, 1.10 is the earliest you can download and the one I used for this video. You have to get the beta code from the pdx forums, look it up please before you write false information.

@@LudietHistoria I'm sorry ludi but i think he is right, the 1.10.1 version is from 27 Feb 2015 and the 1.4.1 version is from 20 Jan 2014, i know that because i was there when Isildur cut Sauron finger and i was there when this game was released, the first patches have a different numeral (1.1-1.9) that changes precisely at the 1.10, and the earliest one available to download is 1.4.1, which is conquest of paradise DLC, i didn't try to download it to not mess with my install but steam shows it as available to download (i got the beta code since a bunch of years)

When I started playing EUIV Persia always popped out of othe Timurids and destroyed them. In my current games the Timurids are actually very strong and almost always integrate their vassals, Persia being nowhere to be seen.

6:00 "Why did they make Buryatia colonial land?" It probably had something to do with balance issues later on down the line due to the Barguzin producing gold. Hordes would just rush that province and dev it using all the mana they get from razing provinces to fund full cavalry and artillery stacks to clown on the Ming and Muscovy. Did it fix anything? No. Did it need fixing? No. Can the western hordes still do the same thing with gold mines near them? Yes.

South Georgia is definitely still in the game, there's an achievement for owning all 3 Georgia, the one in the Caucuses, the one in the US, and South Georgia.

I still enjoy this game, so I sometimes play EU3. Actually play it more than I play EU4, haven't bought EU4 DLC in years as I don't enjoy it as much as old school EU4 and EU3. I started playing EU games back in EU2, CK with CK1 and Vicky with Vicky2. EU3, CK2 and Vicky2 are still my favorites in their series. Victoria 3 has a decent base to build on, we just need more of the national differences from Vicky2 making it in, and change around some economic stuff and add more historical events. EU4 kinda got lost in pointless mechanics eventually to me, and CK3 takes after EU4.

When I started playing back in 2019, I had a v1 EU4. I remember there were no colonial nations and you couldn't exploit development. You couldn't send fleets on exploration missions either. You had to explore each tile manually.

One can tell that this is not the first version. If you look at Crimea, you can see that it does not own Edinsan region. However, in the first version of EU4 Edinsan was owned by Crimean Khanate, so technically Ludi is bulltellingnottrue to you. Hehe

Yeah I feel that you might as well wait for the first couple expansions before buy a paradox game. Since the older version is almost always better with it's expansions then the new one.
