Copying over compositions from one after effects project to another after effects project might seem counter-intuitive and hard to perform. In reality Adobe prepared a special function which is called "collecting" the elements we need to be able to open it in another project. This way will allow you to copy over only the composition you need instead of importing the entire AE project. It will collect all neccesary comps and layers for you!

1000 thank yous for this. In my sloppiness I let an AE project get massive and bloated with comps and files, resulting in 2 min save times. Using this tutorial I separated comps into individual projects made it possible to work frustration-free. Great tutorial.

That is always fantastic to hear. You can simply drag & drop ae projects into other ae projects but this way it makes them much smaller and everything works faster!

Well basically it pretty much can be but it has so many own quirks and solutions that I can't really call it a photoshop for animation :D But yeah, it's a mutant that is for sure!

Glad it helped! Thank you for this kind comment, I'm glad it is helpful. Remember, that you can also slim down your project by going to Dependencies > Reduce Project to get rid of unwanted content that isn't used.

Haha I understand. Sometimes I have watched my own tutorials when working in AE, this software is such a big beast that you can forget things, especially little details with effects etc.
