Welcome to this step-by-step tutorial where we'll create an amazing Kinetic Type Animation using Adobe Illustrator and After Effects! Follow along and learn some cool tips and tricks for your animation projects.
Steps:
Adobe Illustrator Setup:
Create a new document (1080x1080 pixels, RGB).
Use the Type Tool to create a letter (e.g., "A").
Scale and choose a typeface (e.g., Campaign Black Italic).
Convert the letter to outlines.
Design Elements:
Use the Line Tool to draw lines taller than the letter.
Set stroke to black, 10 pixels thickness, round cap.
Duplicate the stroke on the other side of the letter.
Change the letter color for contrast.
Blend strokes (Object - Blend - Make, then adjust blend options to specified steps).
Expand the blend (Object - Expand).
Ungroup lines, select all, and use Shape Builder Tool to refine the design.
Use the Scissors Tool to break lines at random places.
Release to layers sequence and organise layers.
Import to After Effects:
Import the Illustrator file as a composition retaining layer sizes.
Create a solid background.
Add a Null object and sliders (Field of Influence, Amplitude, Random Seed) for controlling animation.
Expression Coding:
Write expressions to control layer movement based on the Null object's position and slider values.
Use variables to connect sliders and calculate positions.
Apply the expression to all layers using animation presets.
Animating:
Set keyframes for the Null object and sliders.
Move the Null object to animate layers.
Adjust slider values for different visual effects.
Final Touches:
Preview and tweak the animation.
Render and export your kinetic type animation.

Thanks, this is an amazing tutorial! How would I go about changing the direction of the expression? For example if I wanted to have the bars move on an angle?

I have an error on line one: var controlNull = thisComp.layer("Control_Null"); var controlPos = controlNull.position; var randomSeed = thisComp.layer("Control_Null").effect("Random Seed")("Slider"); var influence = thisComp.layer("Control_Null").effect("Field of Influence")("Slider"); var amplitude = thisComp.layer("Control_Null").effect("Amplitude")("Slider"); var distance = length(position, controlPos); seedRandom(index + randomSeed, true); var yOffset = random(-amplitude, amplitude); var influenceFactor = Math.max(0, Math.min(1, (influence - distance) / influence)); var newY = position[1] + yOffset * influenceFactor; var newPos = [position[0], newY]; Undefined value used in expression..... any idea why? I am redoing step by step again. Thanks!

Haa i think your sliders have no value, try to add the value of 1 in all of them. see if that works and let me know! cheers!

@@laurentpastorelli1354 I also had the same problem but I found out that it's because the center of anchor point isn't on the layer content. And it's work after I fix it.
