Great to hear the new live album went straight to number 1 in Finland.

After forever was a very special band...Their final album is a masterpiece.

Great reaction. Oh, have to disagree with you about After Forever (but I've been listening to them since my teenage years so maybe I'm biased)! And they do have some pretty memorable songs: Black Tomb, Beyond Me (with Sharon den Adel), Follow In The Cry (Epica used to perform this one from time to time), Emphasis, Eccentric (a heartbreaking ballad, one of my favorite songs from them), Digital Deceit, Beautiful Emptiness, Face Your Demons, Energize Me, Equally Destructive... The list goes on. Also: AF was intended to be a death metal band. They changed after Floor joined (initially she was supposed to do backing vocal work). They still kept some influence from the style tho.

When you see these you can see why Annete didnt want Floor to join Nightwish in USA and whyThoumas wanted her to join it has been the making of a great chemistry and i am so happy for all the band and as a fan i am pumped love them :-)

Probably cuz U didn't live metal between 97 and 2002 when all started. After Forever to me has Loads of memorable songs. I saw them live and to this day is the best "small" concert I've been. I used to listen After Forever way more back in the day Cuz Nightwish was too popish. And I still have After Forever songs on my playlist. Besides. Nightwish invests way more in the orchestration than After Forever ever did. They are in very different sides of the symphony metal spectrum. So it is all about taste.

John I agree with you about After Forever. I think that was part of separation. Also Floor was still working on her voice at the time. The growler was Mark Jansen I think. He took his ideas and formed Epica. You need to check out some of the other songs from the concert. Great reaction John! Take care of yourself John.............. :-)

About the talents put together and overloading the songs: I have heard that argument before and it is true. But I also think that the result is a music style you must learn to appreciate, like you have to learn to listen to classical music or progressive metal. Maybe you have to listen 10 times to this song and it will get you. If not, there is always that voice❤

After forever feels... incomplete. They lack that certain something despite their technical prowess. Nobody really feels like they’re enjoying what they’re doing, that they’ve each had to make some compromise they’re not happy about to be where they are.

Agree about After Forever, I haven't heard a really momorable song from them yet, but what I've heard isn't "bad". I haven't heard that much yet though. Good contrast here between the two videos, the second one shows how to correctly put together a bunch of parts to make a cohesive song.
