At 5 a.m. on December 24, a section of the monorail's conductor rail at the intersection of Cholaprathan Market and Khae Rai in Bangkok, Thailand, suddenly fell from the elevated railway bridge, damaging three cars and a motorcycle, and also knocking down several high-voltage power poles. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
According to Thai media, the fallen rail was from Bangkok's Pink Line monorail, which began trial operations on November 21, 2023, and was scheduled to officially open on January 3, 2024. The Pink Line is an elevated monorail from Pak Kret in Nonthaburi to Min Buri in Bangkok, spanning 34.5 kilometres with 30 stations.

It's wild because about a year ago China was trying to take credit for a bridge in Turkey that survived a earthquake. The bridge was actually 1,000km away from the quake and was built by Korean and Turkish contractors. China's only involvement was a Chinese subcontractor was hired to do a wind resistance test 😂

The Chinese have built a number of railway lines in Turkey . Like their high speed train from Istanbul to Ankara. They also successfully completed the high speed metro train line connecting Istanbul to their international airport. The Turkish govt was impressed enough to award the Chinese builders another contract to build an extended line. A testimony to Chinese engineering prowess.

It wasn't named the Silk Road for no reason. And of course porcelain products like China were desired all over the world. The Romans conducted long term trade with China, both overland and by sea. And that continued into the Middle Ages with Arabs acting as middlemen taking a cut, which is why Europeans went exploring for new routes. Before the modern era, there was a large demand for a number of Chinese products.

The Belt & Road Initiative of China is doomed to fail. 1. China's construction processes are incompetent. Construction is done by habit. Designers, managers and workers will work the same way from project to project. It is impossible for them to do one project poorly to save money, and then do the next one at high quality. The workers will do the same work. So, tofu dreg projects are to be expected. 2. Debt slavery or debt colonialism won't work. No matter what the contracts say, nations can simply not pay. Payment of contracts between countries can only be guaranteed under the threat of military force. That is how the French, English, Dutch, and others maintained and enforced their colonial rule. Colonial rule has ended. China has no ability to threaten military enforcement of its B&RI contracts. First, China has no expeditionary forces. Secondly, the western powers would oppose any Chinese effort to military enforcement of its contracts. Lastly, any country that was a colony knows exactly what they need to do to oppose any such action. China has really screwed up.

My friend who is a senior train operator in that company said it was because of shoddy construction. The electric supply rail under the train threw an arc and melted the steel bolts holding up the concrete beams. This means there is some construction defect during concrete beam casting which allows the arc to travel to ground and travel through the steel bolt. If you see the rail construction closely you can see corners which are cut, missing bolts and nuts, wonky concrete beams. Such an embarassing state of our country that our government decides to buy this train system. China knows our politicians are corrupt and so they knew how to make them follow.

I know this youtube channel's existence is to sensationalize and smear China for every little thing that goes wrong but this is going too far. The Pink Line was built by a thai public company BSR consortium backed by BSR holdings group, they're not even Chinese owned. The thing that fell off the monorail were the part of the rail. The only involvement that China has with this is that they manufactured the trains, which wasn't even running when the faulty rail fell.

The BRI strategy could have been great for China. If China's projects had quality construction, and superior project management it would have worked. Projects being done on-time and under-budget would have shown the superiority of working with China. Countries would have gotten the infrastructure they need, and China would have gotten great goodwill. China's global influence would have soared. However, China decided to use bribery, which led to bad decisions. Also, by not using local workers, the people in many nations have come to resent and oppose China. Instead of goodwill, China has gotten hate. If you notice, the western powers no longer show any concern of fear of the BRI projects.

This action also takes away jobs that locals should be awarded. Many of the works stay in new apartment buildings and home prices go up and further punish locals. They even get rules changed so as even their existence remains confidential. China doesn’t want these countries to repay the loans for projects. They want to have a presents in these countries for influence. They negotiate to lower tariffs to zero for Chinese goods.

Joe, Forest City was not planned by China. It was a bold but crazy idea. Might have worked too. Except, the whole thing collapsed after China inadvertently torpedoed it by imposing currency controls. Forest City became collateral damage in the midst of global economic changes. The whole point of Forest City was that we will bleed away China's wealth that's been accumulating from their constant massive trade surplus. We will sell real estate to rich Chinese people, offering them an opportunity to park their wealth outside of China. The proximity to Singapore meant that it was sold as a holiday home with easy access to a first world country. Turned out a communist country didn't like the idea of their rich people parking their wealth in another country. Who knew, right? 🙄🙄🙄 Plus you know what happened in 2008, no thanks to the mighty US of A. China imposed currency controls so tight, their people couldn't move much of anything outside of their country. Starve of the supply of possible customers, Forest City shrivelled up and died.

I call ‘bullshit’. The electrical components of this line in Thailand are supplied by a non Chinese company. The cause of the failure was the rupture of bolts, replacements of which are being shipped from Germany. It may be true that China facilitated loans to many countries for mega construction projects, but that does not mean that all components used are Chinese and it does not mean that the on-site engineers are Chinese. Perhaps you need to quote some local sources who actually describe the causes with first-hand knowledge, before you start attributing blame, without any facts.

The main problem is that contracts and the loans and payment schedules are not transparent where the citizens of those countries can`t understand the debt repayment. They just see a project, well built or shoddy , and don`t realize what they have to pay. Government representatives almost assuredly are getting bribes to go along with a project which is why details of where the money goes while being built is hidden. Why is it hidden? it is for bribes.

Third world leaders (and many others) only really care about their “consulting fees” when these projects are proposed. They will rarely be held responsible for their project’s performance. Instead, they walk away as heroes for arranging them. When they go tits up, countries find poorly designed performance contracts (no doubt “legal consultants” were involved) means China escapes leaving the nation to pick up the tab. When debt default occurs, the Chinese walk away with a nation’s raw materials at a huge discount, which is what they went for in the first place.

Lack of experience (leaving corruption out for now) in management skills is a growth pain. We learn from our mistakes and strive for constant improvement. When China was first opening up, foreign companies came in to build hotels. They charged a lot and money went out from China. I remember the Chinese wanting to develop engineering skills and built (one of?) their first hotels. The top was to rotate but was out of level so doesn't. Simple mistake was to install (really nice) carpeting before interior construction was complete. Simple mistake but big consequences. (By the way, only the top 2% get admission to universities, I would have "failed entrance exams" and been assigned a lifelong job." People should remember that people learn and self correct. )

I'm so glad the UK government (in it's limited wisdom) decided to cancel the Chinese (Tofu Dreg Land) built nuclear power station in south western Engerland. Could you imagine what would have happened when it malfunctioned - for it surely would. Most things Chinese built are sub-standard although they 'look' good - but are not. Ironically one item they build that are good are the heavy duty bull-dozers and excavators - they are used all over the world and command a good retail price, even second hand machines command a good price for they work well. So what is going on in China? If there's one death on British railway systems it's a big thing and there's large investigations as to what happened and why yet we see China has over six hundred per year.. it clearly shows you risk your life when taking Chinese (Tofu Dreg) railways.
