About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!
I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.
Thanks for checking out my channel & please subscribe!

Yes!!!! DW drums are great, but as you pointed out with the bearing edge...I think it tends to put them in more of a box sonically. Pearls just tend to be more applicable to more styles. I find them a lot easier to tune as well. I've been tuning my PDPs for....uhhh 17 or 18 years now? So I know how to make them sound the way I need them to, but every time I tune a Pearl it just all comes together a little bit quicker. Haven't had any complaints with the optimount system either - feels a lot more sturdy and easy to place than the spikes on a rotating ball. Have fun - looking forward to hearing it mic'd up.
@jtyoung706

I agree for some reason across the board Pearl drums are the easiest to tune .....but the caveat is that you have to tune them more frequently. Unless you go crazy and put loctite on your tuning lugs.

What is wrong with the bearing edges on DW? I've owned Ludwig, Sonor, Premier, Yamaha, Pearl and DW. Gotta say I'd take DW over anything I've ever owned or played in terms of sound, feel, ease of tuning and adaptability. Out of all my kits the DW seemed to have the most range for tuning. They sound great tuned high or low. Hell they even sounded great when they were not tuned. Can't say the same for most my other kits. For me it was the most diverse kit I ever owned/played.

@@johnnysinger3353 Nothing at all. They, too, has different kinds of bearing edges, and the quality is (of course) top notch. I own and used to own both Collector's and Jazz series (cherry gum w/ rounder bearing edges), and they're all great. Comes down to taste, just like with brands. This video makes some folks believe that Pearl is superior to DW, or that this series is new and revolutionary, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Mr. Fricke is happy as can be with his Deedubs, this is just another sponsored shit video... For the record, I have nothing against Pearl, and I've owned several, including a nice Masters kit.

But the Pearl free-floating maple shell snare was perfect! It was between a standard size and a piccolo snare (5 inch?). Gibraltar hardware rocks! I've yet to play a Pearl set yet... Maybe when I record my EP at your studio... ;)

Maybe im biased because my dad kept his 20 year old dw collector series in the house but i really do love the free floating snares that pearl makes

If possible, you could always remove a head from each DW drum and stack'em inside each other. Saves a ton of space :3

Love your channel and this is a beautiful drum kit! I would say it’s a close second to the Maple/Gum of the Gretsch USA Customs 😏🤘🏻🥁

I just received a new Tama Starclassic drum kit yesterday. A kid in a candy store! Being a short drummer, I got the same offset setup too.😛

They look amazeballs! High hat husher is a great idea. Could put a coffee holder on it. "Nice shotgun Glenn. That's how you load it eh? Ooh look, a bong!"

Note: The Gibraltar heavy duty stands have a brake tilter system, you use the drum key screw to further lock down the tilt. Works wonders for heavier cymbals. Keep the coated reso head on the kick drum. I would consider changing out the Ambassador heads for coated Emperors to darken up the whole kit a bit, make it a bit more heavy. I'm glad you have a new sponsor to work with. Personally, if I had 3850 USD (the cost of the Master's kit), I would get an Allegra Master Craft, which comes with an extra floor tom (and choice of heads I believe) for 250 USD less. It will punch at or above the Pearl no problem. Or work on a completely custom kit with a well respected local custom shop and get exactly what you need.

Beautiful Kit Glenn. You looked so excited unboxing them drums. It should make quite the difference to the DW (Not really a fan of DW myself) The coated kick drum batter head could give you more attack on songs that don't need fast kick work. You can tune it lower with quite a bit of muffling and listen to the punch you get from it. I was watching a gig once in a pub. No mic's on the kit. But the kick was so punchy. It did have a slap pad and was also a 20" but still, try it on the 22" as I described. Gibraltar Hardware is always a safe bet. Good ideal trying to save floor space. You should contact Brent Barnett from the Gibraltar RU-vid channel and get them to hook you up with some Stealth Racking to free up even more space. Not tripods on the floor. I think they even have some great micing solutions too. Get Brent on your channel doing his Gibraltar thing. You'll love it.
