If he could handle it, maybe. He's no 21 year old Metheny. I don't know if the guy can even keep up with bebop or play modal, so I wouldn't be waiting around for that record. A good jazz musician would have filled the live shows with great melodic and harmonic phrases, and he never does that. He surely knows his way around a pentatonic scale, but that's about it.

I think he has answered the "Gravity question" before because I specifically remember him saying that it was a great reminder that no matter how big he got and how many sold out shows he had, never forget that gravity will keep him grounded... I think it was on that "Someday I'll Fly" documentary from a little while back.
Great interview and good questions. "Gravity" is one of the best songs ever written. Singing to or having a conversation with an inanimate object......interesting concept. And the guitar riff or hook in it is unreal! Always thoughtful and honest. John is the best, really. We need some new music John....waiting patiently!

John, I completely agree about not listening to a lot of music right now. So many songs seem vapid and not relatable to what’s going on, that it’s kinda turned me off. I don’t like it. 😭. Gonna try some Bill Evans :)
I am with both of you, I have never seen The Godfather. I grew up in the city where the mafia was so present that it just never appealed to me. You guys should watch The Unbearable Lightness of Being with Daniel Day Lewis. Not only is it very relevant, but it is one of the best films ever made.
John Mayer could put together a great band. Create something new. Not just continue playing Grateful Dead music, but whole new sound of it's own. How cool would that be? Something new.
Last concert I went to was John Mayer in Irvine about 6-7 years ago. He stood there with a stupid scarf around his head and jammed in his guitar. We wasted hundreds of dollars to watch this nonsense. Got up and left halfway. I, nor my friends, have wasted money on these concerts ever since.
That time, around the release of Paradise Valley, was when I went to my first show of his, thought he was brilliant and became an instant fan. Followed him since. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
