You actually could do both a buffet on the long wall and comfortable seating in the area where you currently have your desk in the kitchen - once you move your office upstairs.

You have always struck me as a person that likes to have a place for everything. You enjoy entertaining so very much and you’ve begun to collect items that help you accomplish the vision of your gathering. That being said, a buffet will serve you well with storage and for serving food at parties (and will look lovely when not in party use). I love that you and Josh always think through things in detail, so that together you make the best choice for your families needs. What a great job Josh did with the trim!

Becky, if you and josh are having your offices upstairs, take out the old desk area in the kitchen and go with both of your ideas, a long buffet/serving and storage cupboard, and seating area, I know it's going to be me work but definitely worth it in the end, you guys deserve it!! Xx

Since you and Josh entertain frequently, I think a buffet would be a very useful and practical way to utilize the wall space. It would give you some flexibility in setting up dinner parties in addition to providing a place to store your extra cutlery, serving pieces like the dessert glasses you were looking at, and table decor type of things. I know you have been intentional in collecting some new things in that regard. I think it would be stunning in conjunction with the dining table.
@marymalady462

My vote would be for a large buffet storage unit. You love to host family and friends, and this would give you storage for items, as well as a place to put out food on. When not in use, you could place decorations on it.

I’ve learned a lot from you. Thank you! I’d go for cozy seating. We have a coffee room open to our kitchen. It’s 1/2 the size of our living room but everyone wants to be in the coffee room because it’s open to the kitchen and I love all the buzz of having a bunch of people in my kitchen. Seriously, we get so many people cozying up, it’s a true joy. I keep my extra serving items in our porch or in our basement. It’s not so hard to go get them when I need them.

We had both your options: the cozy area to be honest always got a catch all for clothes, sweaters, bags, mail, returns, and random kitchen stuff. On the other hand my serving area with glasses, silver, napkins and everything table top I love very much. I would recommend a nice, maybe antique-ish, piece of furniture, maybe with glass cabinets in top, that has a purpose and would be nicer. We ditched the cozy area and got more comfortable chairs for the table. So enjoying sitting around when somebody cooks is possible :-)

Buffet server for sure. I did this by purchasing an old 1980s entertainment center. It was massive. I repainted it and reconfigured shelving then you can add a mirror, wallpaper, or tile on the back serving area. It was a great feature in the dining/kitchen because it looked like a special piece of furniture but served as a kitchen extension and was a great place to store serving pieces, linen, etc. OR Build a faux fireplace on that wall with stuffed arm chairs either side for a special area in the kitchen… just reorient your dining table.

Revamp your old office space into storage. Get a closet designer to help maximize the space. Uppers for display would be gorgeous. In time, change out the under the window into matching storage space. Keep the wall space for seating for now, that way you can move them out for needed space for tables when harvesting large amounts of produce.

I would personally, add storage - maybe open storage that looks built in on that wall to display kitchen items with decor pieces and then in front of it? a few club chairs around a low table so it is movable for holiday needs and otherwise acts as a place to read cookbooks, play games, puzzles, casual coffee spot etc. More movable during holidays, parties to suit the events AND looks less clunky than a sofa in that space. :)

You two did an amazing job on the trim! For the kitchen wall are, I think you would never regret storage. Since storage is not as deep as counters, you may still be able to add a comfy chair or two in front of it. You could also place a chair in your office where that is set back. If you do not opt for the chairs, you could add. Couple of comfortable bar stools.

Cozy comfortable space would be amazing, I know you're going to make it beautiful ❤

Becky I think the wall should be a storage space. It’s so nice to have all of your entertaining items in one spot. Maybe if there were room you could add a chair or two? Your home is so beautiful. You and Josh have done an amazing job. 😊

Great work to you and your husband! I highly recommend adding storage in on that wall. My mother-in-law did it years ago and it was the best thing to happen to the space. We keep our family board games inside for easy access next to the dining room table. It's also storage for table decor, fancy dishes, candles, and more. Your space has a lot of potential! Sending love from my family to yours! 💕

Becky, I have two suggestions but they are a bit ambitious. First, to store your table decor and other things, I think the office area in the kitchen could be a wall to wall floor to ceiling built in (maybe even an Ikea hack). It could be a hidden office too. I am thinking something like what Farmhouse on Boone did in her kitchen but adapted to your style and needs. Second, have you and Josh ever considered opening up the stairs to the kitchen? I think it could look beautiful and break that wall a bit. I believe it would still leave enough wall to put a mirror or art and maybe a buffet too.

@@ElleDursten I had also thought about opening up that stairway! I’ve always loved back staircases from a kitchen. It would make that area look even more open….and still provide enough wall space to have a good sized buffet.

I always appreciate storage, so my vote for that space is storage. You often have a table over there for different harvest/food projects and of course you'd need to find another area for that if you were to convert that wall to too much seating. (Editing to say: Others have the best way to pull that off: put the seating area where your current office space is and keep a more working space for that current blank wall.)

BUFFET... no doubt about it! With the amount of entertaining and all the prep you do for dinners and family events,... the best and most beautiful thing to buy would be a gorgeous buffet that typically is part of a dining room and you will love and enjoy it every day. When my family comes over, my buffet is the "landing zone" for gifts and flowers and desserts they bring ! So nice to see you get your 2 year project done! Beautiful job Becky and Josh!

Love what you guys have done! It's amazing what a difference something as simple as trim can make on a space. Josh did a great job! Regarding your qyestion: do BOTH!!! I had a similar space in a previous house-this was in the 90's and comfort seating in a kitchen wasn't a thing yet. But my late mother-in-law had given me an antique buffet which I desperately needed. My mother , at about the same time had given me 2 wing back chairs when they moved. So I put my buffet at center of the wall and the chairs at either end. I set up my buffet with a coffee station (being the non-alcoholic Baptist home that it was). Everyone that saw it loved it!!! You have almost half again the wall space I did and there is no reason you shouldn't be able to do both! I think it would look lovely in there, especially when you have little helpers in the kitchen some day. ❤❤❤

I'd definitely go with the buffet idea for storage now and whenever you may want to upgrade your dining table and chairs, you can always get a table with extra leaves and two upholstered chairs for each end and use those when you need comfortable seating too.

I vote a cozy comfy space. Josh or other family members can enjoy sitting around and being with you as you cook. We remodeled our kitchen and living spacec3 years ago and went with open area. It is so nice to be able to be in my kitchen and able to converse with my guests without leaving the kitchen or having someone in my way while I prepare a meal or a snack.

My vote is buffet/storage. I live in Florida and homes only have small closets in the bedrooms. I have "stolen" space for 3 large closets and I LOVE the extra space!

As others have said. Office upstairs so area in kitchen free for your storage. Leaving the other area for chairs in kitchen. Josh has done very well. 😊😊

Hey Becky, great job on the renovations, everything looks wonderful. For your space in the dining room, I'd put a huge buffet with lots of storage. I think it would be very useful. Not only will the storage be great, but the tabletop will come in handy too. Love you and your family! ❤

I like option 1. Storage space that will accentuate the area. Sounds beautiful. Or neither and add wainscoting or some type of woodwork on the wall.

With all the hosting you do, I definitely recommend the buffet. But! If you're moving your office to the bonus space, then maybe you can do a light rework on the kitchen office space to be both a flexible mini office and a cozy seating area.

I think you can have both. I know you like your desk in the kitchen but let’s face it we all multitask when in the kitchen. I have my I pad with your videos playing while cooking and preserving. I don’t ever need to sit down. If I had a place like that it would just become a catch all anyways. I love that you take your time to make your decisions. Live with it for a minute to see what fits!

The large buffet space for sure! Maybe the end part turned into a cute dog bed? That wall would be a great accent wall, but maybe a big shelf with some plants? Can’t wait to see what you do come up with!! ☺️

My hubby is always the one to say that's good enough, nobody will notice. I tell him I will notice and if I do others may as well. I think the buffet for storage space would be the best.

I like the idea of a buffet for serving/ storage. And I saw in another comment the idea of turning your current desk area into a seating nook. Love that! You get both of your wants taken care of!
