@@ariannareardon6055 you keep commenting the same thing. Are you that bored in your life? He isnt using the shoe in the same way you are and said he doesnt know much about the 990s. It's completely fine that this channel isnt for you and his style of review, or critiques aren't the type of critiques you're interested in. But why are you here commenting negativity multiple times saying a grown man sounds like a child simply because your OPINION doesnt match his. The only person that sounds like a child here is you
The 990 is a traditionalist shoe built on a New Balance SL-1 shoe last which is designed primarily for stability. Cushioning being secondary, although executed perfectly. The addition of the plastic ankle collar helps to assist in the prevention of over pronation of the foot. The shoe is a technical design which happens to be fashionable to some. Hands down, NB out performs all others in this segment... Just Sayin' 😁😁
Hes some things to note: 1. The made in the USA isn't just alluding to where the shoe is made: a large percentage of the manufacturing of these shoes is done by an actual person, and not mostly by machines alone. This is why the quality on them is fantastic and you don't see too many QC issues. Seriously, RU-vid a video on how these are made. The price is actually justifiable when compared to Jordan retros with glue stains out the ass. $175 is definitely worth it over whatever Nike/Jordan sweatshop workers produce. 2. I could be wrong about this, but I believe only the V5 has that crazy Ortholite insole that helps with that great comfort. 3. Come on Hes. It’s a launch colorway. Nobody bats an eye when a new Jordan model comes out and......surprise! Black and red colorway 🤔 Loved the vid, don't get me wrong. I just think these deserve way more of a break on the price/colorway con when compared to Jordan Retro's/Air Maxes.
They are great shoes. They are not necessarily great runners per say as there are more performance driven ones. One of the best shoes for the money imo. The guy in the video sounds like a teenager when he talks about shoes and clearly doesn't use them to exercise. So who knows and who cares.
Made in the usa is just alluding go where the shoe is made. A shoe can be made in turky and be hand made as well. Just like things made in the us can be made by machine. So that makes no sense
You all will one day understand the 990's if you buy them. They don't just simply change how you look, they change how you feel. Your shoes are very important to your feet, knees, hips, lower back, shoulders, neck, and mindset in life. I was blessed to be given a pair as a child (edit: v1). Got my V5 (on screen) for $159, still look brand new! Best shoes! Hands down. 13 wide.
First of all, love the vids so no hate, but I find some of the cons to be odd... To be fair they do a lot of collabs and exclusives. The Bodega 997 that just released was mega hyped, but over the last while they have worked with Kith, Comme des Garcons, END., and Todd Snyder (That's just off the top of my head.) And the price point.. they seem expensive for a low key looking shoe, but when you look at it objectively they are made in the US from premium materials (as you mentioned) so naturally they will be a higher price point... people pay the same price if not $30-50 more for Jordan retros made overseas with inferior materials and quality control. So I get the "price" as a con if that's applied to pretty much every shoe $150+ Just my 2 cents. Much love, glad you featured them.
theMurDuck their collaborations were more for the niche consumers that follows the “Japanese-American style” trend, not for the mass market tho. I think what they should really do is to keep the classics who they are, no need for any collaborations, instead do collabs with the newer models such as the 247 and the 574 sport.
Isaac Wu no collaborations are for mass markets, especially with the niche brands mentioned. As for models- it varies per collab but historically speaking, the other partner generally will pick which model they want to design, not the shoe company.
GhostDiver sorry I meant the style. Using a more “popular” model to collab, because what you do is that you want to get hype, and to raise brand awareness, I understand you probably don’t make money out of them.
Wise decision. I regret getting Yeezies, they are so disappointing compared to the quality you get from new balance or a high quality Jordans or even sneakers made by smaller local brands (in Germany that’s Djinns) that show so much love for detail in their products.
I recently purchased this pair of shoe in grey and got them precisely because they are pragmatic instead of purely fashion centric. These are in my running rotation so I use it for the activity it is actually designed for and can’t begin to explain how well they support my feet. The only other shoe to sufficiently provide this kind of support are my Brooks Ghost V 8 shoes. I bought these shoes precisely because I don’t have to compete with sneaker heads and skeavy resellers.
I disagree with his suggestion about buying the 574's as a cheaper alternative to the 990. The 574's used to be a well made shoe but the latest versions look and feel cheap. They have very little support, especially the soles. If they did not have the New Balance name on them they would be a $60.00 shoe. The 990 is worth every penny if you like comfort and support...and they will last for a long time.
Love these shoes! They're more firm with decent squish but you get all day comfort without foot fatigue. Boost or React are more cushioned but they're so soft that your feet are making micro adjustments in each step which causes foot fatigue. The 990's are balanced. I could walk 6 hours and have no pain from these!
Thought this video is current. Talked to a N B representative telling me 900V6 out soon, not on our site,& out soon. Saw pictures with N B 900V6 with worker at N B outlet yesterday. Too bad not all N B shoes made in USA!! Just 900 series.
Love 990's. My experience is for 8 hours days of standing and walking 5 days a week. Insoles will need to be replaced and there is a small break in period.
@@Templar.Knight-Reaper In terms of cushion and squishyness, 990v5 has virtually none. But they're more comfortable in the sense that you don't get foot fatigue which means you can wear these all day no feet ache. Boost is soft but my feet start aching when I wear them for at least 2 hours.
175$ for the made in USA 🇺🇸, crafted with detail, absolutely worth every single penny, I m not American, but Fds of mine buying the 99x mostly because of that . You can feel the percentage of done by hand is high in this product, unlike those Nike n Adidas. Amazing shoes...
11 months later and New Balance KILLED it in that time. Joe Freshgoods 992... Kawhi OMN1S BHM, and the 850s Sunset Pack... Kith 990 Dustys... Aime Leon Dore 827... even the Herschel Supply 801
I'm going to keep it 100. I've never been into New Balance. I do like that they were made in the U.S.A. though. At least I took another new thing from watching one of your videos. Oh... and I'm glad you fixed the audio. Haha.
Just wear a pair of 990s for a day and you'll change your mind. Legit all day comfort...there isn't a single other shoe i'd rather wear if i'm going to be on my feet all day.
I have worn new balance shoes for most of my life. Not always because I am completely loyal to new balance but because of the foot problems that I have had. Comfort, stability and the fact that they have 4e sneakers are a few of the reasons I have stayed with them.
Just ordered mine after buying some cheap $60-$70 new balance shoes at the store. After seeing how comfortable some regular new balances were compared to my usual Nike’s that cost more, I had to get the real deal big boy new balances with all the tech. Can’t wait to put some miles on em! 🤔
I have both V4 and v5,imo v4 is the better not only for the price but looks better too. They’re both very comfortable and stylish. Even more comfortable than the ultra boost and 350 v2,plus for my personal style they are way more versatile
Price is high, I agree. Back in 2003 when I first started buying 990s the price was $99.00 and they had more US made parts then they do today. If we check this price with a simple inflation calculator, the shoe should be retailing around $129.99. But since I appreciate USA made stuff, I prefer buying this USA made shoe over a Nike ZoomX which retails for the same price as this shoe and is made in Asia.
Yeah I have no idea what this dude is talking about. New balance is known for their insanely high quality collaborations with concepts, kith, todd snyder etc. Also lol at him saying he wants to see more colorways of the shoe. Bro it JUST officially released. It's normal for them to release the standard gray pair first. It's almost like he has has never heard new balance in his life.
I have never had the New Balance shoes before this 990 V5, but this shoe is amazing and WORTH EVERY PENNY. I bought the size 9 4E because I need a wide toe box and this is great. BUT what makes this show wonderful is the mesh. I have hammer toes, and this 990 V5 with its mesh has given me the most comfortable shoe that I have worn in years. As for your cons, I think you thought a con was obligatory. Your cons have nothing to do with the comfort of this top quality shoe.
Fire ass kicks. Just ordered a second pair after having them over a year. Not because I needed them, because I wanted them. I have a lot of retros too, but the NB are too hard to pass.
@@rebelos6607 If you get NBs with encap they have a firm bottom sole with a slow (almost memory) insole for your foot. Great stability and some decent absorption of impact. You can walk and stroll for miles and your ankles and knees will give out first, not your feet.
Jordans are cool... 990 is the best quality for them money really. Alot of running shoes are at least 130, so that's pretty close to 990... mind as well get the 990 haha
If your from the dmv areas a pair of 990’s are a must have in your shoe collection I’m from Baltimore and almost everybody has a pair the shoe is iconic
I'm from the D.M.V area where we ABSOLUTELY cherish and embrace New Balance and are and am NB BIGGEST consumers. Washington D.c defentley made NB along with Adidas besides New York ofcourse l0l and foamposite popular bk in the 80's whn only drug dealears could only afford dem and made them a status symbol. I own all 3 colorways but my fav would have 2 be the classic cool grey colorway especially during this tyme of year in the spring/summer. I remember whn my mom bought me and my lil brother are first pair of 574's bk in my freshman year of high skool whn the 574 price point on the market whn u could purchase 2 pairs for $90. NB are my 2 or 3 fav shoe of ALL Tyme besides the air max 1 and Air Jordan 5. I love the fact that New Balance brand are manufactured in the U.S.A I dont know why alot of ppl complain about the price point witch I do agree is very expensive especially for a dad shoe but take this in consideration We pay that 4 A pair of Air Max Or Foamposite and Air jordan that's manufactured overseas in China for about kno more than $5.
Who cares if new balance isn't in? I've been wearing them since I was like 7 years olds. They look pretty nice, I wish I could afford to buy made in the USA but I only make $11/hr (in the USA lol), or I totally would.
Whilst it is true that NB has been making models called 990s for over 3 decades, the 990 version 1 is light years away from the v4/5 in terms of materials/patterns and overall design/profile, unlike something such as the Nike Air Max 1/90/95, which mostly only differ in materials/patterns over the years.
Just got mine today finally. Same color. On sale at Hibbets for 150.00 out the door. I am very happy. Put em on and wore them out the door. First thing I noticed was they felt like my own shoes already broke in..wow Love these!
My spouse has to wear these to fit his orthotic. Because they run closer to $300 after tax here in Canada, it's the only shoe he has to fit the orthotic. The glue does not always hold up and the sole falls apart . We need to replace these shoes every 2 years with regular wear. I have never seen these sneekers for the amount you mention unless they were used on ebay.
Durabilty on these are great. I don't care for my shoes and beat them up. These so far have lasted me 8 months with the outsole finally starting to peel from the front. Cant recommend them enough.
@@slickfox2826 no tf y’all don’t DC OGs told me y’all used to clown us for wearin dem now today all of sudden y’all wanna wear em becuz y’all like how we rock em dats da only reason y y’all wearin em wats next ur whole city goin be wearin foams like us
I love & only wear New Balance due to their width fittings & most other brands have bugger all available in width fittings...others can boast about all their fancy technology but no width choice, then no comfort eh.
I have a problem where I roll my ankles inward and I just bought some 860s v9 at the local new balance store and it’s freaking great!! New balance customer for life now!
You are an overpronator like me.....a neutral shoe would fix your problem if the inward roll is not too bad. I trust that these NB you bought are neutral! If you buy overpronating NB these may over correct the inward roll too much and cause a different problem in your knees ......(NB also come underpronating as well which will make your problem worse by making the ankles roll inward even more!!!!! Most Nike shoes are underpronating some are neutral)
Do you think if I buy this shoes now in 2023 available in good condition will be having the same durability after using it for run & long walk. These are available on super sale currently but I doubt it will wear down after few uses due to being the old shoes now after 2 years? Does these branded shoes have expiry of its own? Please share your knowledge if you have any idea about it.
Chester Lim Hey I got a new channel for New Balance unboxing and reviews. Check it out and let me what I can do to make a better channel. Thanks for your support
NB are great shoes, they knock Nike 270's, VaporMax, right out of the park because these Nikes are too firm on the rebound. Forget all the hype about these two. If you want an excellent shoe with great shock absorption go with NB. I will definitely cop a pair of these v5. Glad to see that there are being made in the USA again......the Chinese made ones in the last few years were too narrow.....a wide width fit like medium etc. Thank God NB wised up, I would gladly pay U$175 for a quality shoe when I get what I pay for. Thanks NB, keep up the quality standard!!!!
I have 5 or 6 NB Made in USA sneakers in different colors. Yes, they are extremely comfortable but they wear much better than any other sneakers I have owned. I walk miles every day on concrete and blacktop. Even after a couple of years, many miles and being washed a dozen times or more they still look new. That's the difference New Balance made in USA and some Chinese sneakers.
I got the grey pair for $165 with a coupon. They’re very comfortable! Easy to just throw on for errands or whatever. They do look pretty “dadish” which I’m still a little unsold on, but I’ve beat up my feet a little with Jordan’s and other shoes that aren’t as comfortable or supportive.
they have the same pricetag with the older 990s. 990v4 looks very cool in this 'dad style' but v5 has small difference, but it finally looks GREAT. Awesome midsole, smooth top. Really want to try them out. I have 993 btw, really comfy and durable. Love them, but v5 definetaly looks better.
New balance 990’s don’t need an introduction.. everyone knows about em, they just might not wear them .. and grey is the most popular color for 990’s yet alone new balance as a whole... grey, black, and navy blue are the only colors that will initially drop as time go on they drop diff colors.. now it’s a lot of color ways of the v5
990v5 Black are easier to keep clean. They stay looking good longer. Gray looks great when new, but starts showing the wear faster than the black. Great looking shoes in either color but the gray will need more care and attention. Both colors go with everything.
the 990v3 made my feet very happy the entire time i was studying abroad and traveling. imo, the only shoes that are as comfortable as these are the asics kayano.
For me, the 990V5 is way more comfy. The Boost are softer, but after a day on feet my feet are tired. This is not the case with NB. They’re comfy all the time.
Good shoes but the 993 is even better. I've owned both and I can stand and walk in the 993 all day without foot fatigue or pain. Not so with 990v5 -- feet hurt after just a few hours. 993 is better made with higher quality materials and better support. Once I wore them I couldn't go back to the 990v5.
990s are the most comfortable retro shoe that I've owned. They were standard issue with our uniform when I was in the Pom Pom squad in Highschool. 20 years later I still love them and have bought several pairs since. The only downside is that, like you said when will they be cool again? I always elderly mall walkers wearing them and that leads people to think it's an orthopedic shoe.😂🤣😂
"Cool" is not restricted to any age. I've seen elders rocking the 990 shoes better than anybody! Look out, you'll be one before you know it and if you're still wearing New Balance you'll think you're being cool, not "ortho"!
If anyone in the comments have both the V4 and the V5, can you compare the comfort of the new ortholite sockliner versus the old one? Also is the fit similar for the toe box? Thanks
Nah I think these are way nicer then the v5 seem more sleek and got more of a hip Nike feel just bought them today best new balance purchase I’ve ever made !!
the fact that they are made in usa sold me , the quality is premium and we should support good labor instead of made in Malesia by kids in a sweat shop or something
I commented above, but they are a perfect blend of cushioned and supportive. Most people say (and I agree) that your feet will start to hurt a bit from the lack of support of boost and react if you're on your feet for too long. These you can legit wear all day and your feet will feel great. I haven't tried the v5s yet, but i have the v4 and they're supposed to be very similar.
To me, the new balance dont have a dad vibe. They are shaped more like an air max than an air monarch. Because they arent super hype, some just assume all new balances are dad shoes.
990v5 is NOT the New Balance of the 55yr old dad, in jean shorts with a tucked in t shirt. They're in an entirely different league, and look awesome. Especially Black and Silver.
Daemn that is dedication for fitment and comfort. Makes good sense tough. Instead of making three shoes with different designs that force you to choose between prefered design or best comfort. Make one good shoe that fit several types of feet.
After serving 2 years in prison and gaining 110 pounds this was the first shoe I bought when I came home. I can’t believe how great the quality is. I own other NB but these are the best quality I’ve seen hands down. Unbelievable.
