A refugee in their own country. What a heartbreaking state to be in. I hope the IDPs make it through and the new government ensures continuous peace. At the very least, they should be able to go back to their homeland and rebuild their village. Thanks for sharing National Geographic.

I'm colombian, and i have to say that the life in the big citys is completely different than in rural areas, maybe because of that there are a lot of people that don't see or don't want to see all those problems that the rural people have, and pitifully they do not vote intelligently for the benefit of the most needy people. Also there is a new 'speech' that politicians say: 'castrochavismo' It consists of generating fear in people saying that if X candidate wins, Colombia will become like Venezuela. (Sorry about grammar or typing mistakes)

I value these small documentaries which place faces and lives in the tragedies around the world. Helps me understand what life is like for these people and how inhuman political conflicts can be to those not in positions of influence and power. Remote and unseen, suffering. Ignored by those playing national tug of war.

Really hope Duque does the right thing and gives these people their homes back.

There are many people in high places who are very evil. Those high places have to come face to face with accountability eventually. So sad eventually will not come soon enough for those who are suffering. 😑

How was the peace treaty perceived among citizens? Many people suffered much because of these paramilitary forces, and I would be surprised that nobody argued about war criminals having being granted amnesty.

Sometimes, when I see these documentaries, I feel a mixture of feelings and even a great indignation, but being a Colombian who was born and grew up during the war, drug trafficking and great corruption, I want to tell many of those who watch these documentaries, that not always everything that is shown and said in them is the complete reality, the real problem of Colombia over governmental corruption, it is drug trafficking, the lack of moral and ethical principles and poorly educated families, the problem is all of us, because We are opportunists and where families allow their own delinquent children, because drug trafficking is the root of the people, politicians and all public entities are sold to this for the easy money it offers, because the guerrillas paramilitaries and crime organized, found in it, the easy and quick way to make money, I could stay all day trying to explain this phenomenon, but nobody would understand it without living it before, the peace that was signed in Colombia is a peace of paper, a peace of a vain president that the only thing that mattered was winning a Nobel prize, to those who do not know the history of Colombia, do not be fooled With that story, the only one who saves Colombia is God all powerful and the conscience of our families full of principles and morality, that can give the country new children full of glory hunger and proud of themselves no matter their social status, and that they are not sold to the first bidder for the easy money, forgetting that every time they do it they will sink and sink more to each one of our compatriots.

The displaced knew more about the danger of Duque than those in the big cities! Colombia would have significantly advanced in peace if we had listened to them.

I hope the peace lasts, that reforms can be made and the lives of the people can be improved. Are the politicians corrupt? Of course they are, almost no one ever gets to the highest offices of government without substantial corruption, regardless of whether it's Colombia, America, Britain, Egypt, China, or anywhere else. Corruption is just a fact of life we have to deal with and try to reduce over time. However even corrupt politicians can improve the lives of their people...just not as much as they could otherwise. If say Duque makes a deal with China to bring in money for building infrastructure and industry, and also gets to pocket millions, it would still help Colombia. Is it fair? no. Is it Just? no. Is it better than continued bloodshed? absolutely. Let's hope that Colombia prospers, no matter who is on top.

Sad to say but there are too many people in the world today not enough resources to go around on top of that too much Violence, Here in the USA the poor are well taken care of but they never rise above poverty! I'm 62 I had a Vasectomy at 28 never regretted it, all men should at least think about it seeing children being born here in USA no fathers and sometimes the mother also gives them up. just a thought!
