Jiro pronounced (Hero) What a Man. Saves his Family, but the Tsunami was so quick, it still gets them. Saves himself, hears his daughter ,jumps in saves her. Then they find his wife and son alive clinging to debris. This family was meant to live. Incredible! Fisherman are tough people no matter which country they live.

Most of these documentaries rarely mention Mauna Loa volcano... Kilauea always gets the best press. I get it, Kilauea is just more sexy, more active, doing all the hard work. While Mauna Loa is very, very... none of that. However, it's probably the most dangerous volcano on the big island. When it goes, it will only take somewhere between 15 to 30 minutes for its lava to reach the sea... and almost no one will be able to get out of the way (especially if it explodes during the night). Mauna Loa is the biggest mountain on the surface of the entire earth, it consists of approximately 18,000 cubic miles of material. For a comparison, Mt Rainier consists of only 0.69 cubic miles of material. You could literally fit more than 26,000 Mt Rainiers inside of Mauna Loa. Anything that has ejected that much material over its entire existence... isn't exactly safe.

Idk how you can make a documentary on tornadoes without including the 2013 El Reno tornado. It wasn't the most deadly, but it was by far the largest tornado ever recorded on Earth, and possibly had the fastest wind speeds ever recorded on Earth. At it's peak it was 2.6 miles(4.1km) wide, with maximum wind speeds estimated to be 336mph(540kph). It only killed 8 people because it occurred in mostly rural farmland, but if a tornado that big and fast were to hit a major city it would kill tens of thousands of people.

@ 2:59:00 - The New Madrid quakes of 1811/1812 were the cause of many strange phenomena of which some have never been explained. One being the “Thunderbird”! That winter was the very first of sightings, which still occur today whenever the New Madrid fault is rocked. I was born and raised in East Central Illinois, along the Indiana state line, and currently live in Indiana, just across the state line where I used to live. The New Madrid trimmers & quakes are almost always felt even further north than where I am. And in a 1989 quake, we experienced a ground ripple, and watched the stucco facade crumble & fall off the exterior of a 2 story apartment building. All of this paragraph just to say that I know all about the New Madrid fault line along southern Illinois/East Missouri. Back to the 1811/12 quakes, along with the appearance of the Thunderbird, one of the quakes even caused the Mississippi River to flow in reverse for several days & created several lakes along the the way. As for the Thunderbird, locals don’t know where the quakes cause it’s appearance, or it’s appearance causes the quakes.

Wow Murphysboro is only 19 miles away from me, so is Benton, IL. My friend and I were sitting in his mobile home in Marion, IL. when we received a warning from a state police officer on his loudspeaker , that a tornado was moving towards the trailer park & expected to be there in under 5 minutes. It was a F-0. My friend & I jumped into my car then drove down to the main road 1/8th of a mile away. We were looking around for the tornado but couldn't see it. All of a sudden, it started raining real hard. It made it impossible to see anything. After about 1 minute we got out of the car to try to pinpoint the where the tornado was? We wanted to know which way to drive to get away from it. Both the rain & wind had stopped at this time. We were looking around and around then, I looked straight up above us & said " oh my God!" My friend turned to me & joined me looking straight up. We were looking up the very center of the tornado. The bottom of the tornado was just a little higher than the telephone poles. The opening at the bottom of it was as wide as the four-lane highway with a turn lane in the center. You could hear the high-speed whistling & whipping around in the sky. What amazed both of us the most was, ...we could see all the way up through the center of the tornado into space. The very center Inside the Tornado at the top of the clouds was blackened out just like is was night time. The tornado went over us in about 10-15 seconds. The clouds then turned all different colors. Beautiful colors like of a rainbow. I thank God we did not get sucked up inside of it! This Tornado did eventually touch back down a few times as it flew over the town. I believe the worst it did was destroy an old barn.

It was a metaphor. No one in Hawaii "wonders why" they have lava. Anywhere you live, any way you choose to live, involves risk. People smoke, drink, eat crappy food, avoid medical care, etc., then wonder why someone would live near a volcano that erupts every few 100 or 1,000 years. LoL.

i've never bought the 1000 plus foot high wave that the fellows fishing boat simply climbed up and safely rolled with, never!

I thot about that too. erosion and debris deposits along the bank by the wave would definitely indicate how high it was.

Reelfoot Lake has some bass, but Reelfoot is famous for its bluegill and crappie fishing, both of which rank among the best in the state.

23:50 what that guy and this doc fail to mention is that (assuming it's the same photographer...85% sure it is) he had his young son with him taking pics on the NE side of Mt St Helens at a lake. That man ONLY moved spots because his son went berserk and freaked out demanding they move to a different location. Less than an hour after they moved the mountain went kaboom. The area the man was originally was ABSOLUTELY destroyed. So he and his son would have died had the man not given in to the tantrum of a 10 yr old. Bet that man is glad he's a push over and caved to his son's demand.

Episode on tornadoes: And this is why houses 'round here have basements. Also one of the things I was most terrified of as a kid, along with thunderstorms in general. Almost getting hit by lightning will do that.

I live in Dallas. When visitors for work would ask how the weather could go from 60 to 35 in an hour, I would point out that the only thing between us and Canada was the Red River and it was usually dry. LOL There's a park with a rec center a couple of blocks from me. It has a weather shelter with a basement, so I guess I'll go there if I ever have to.

I live in NW Washington, and remember that day, we heard it blow, even though we were across the state, and did see fine ash. I remember to this day where I was standing when Mt. St Hellen’s blew. I was 15 years old

I live in Southern Africa and I think the fact that we don’t have volcanoes or earth quakes And are not close to any is why people moved out of here to repopulate the planet for millions of years ! And the interior. Of the place is very high above sea level !
