Not at that price. So many other places in London to go to which are vastly better than that. Dry sandwiches are inexcusable.

Aunt Beth, What do you get for your £14? Serious question. In the older, perhaps better days, Tea was a necessary marketing expense. Merchants put out as nice a tea as they could manage at a not-off putting price, meant to reward customers for coming, hoping once fortified and properly plumped they might actually buy something. For example, Harrod’s back in the Olde pre-Fayed days offered Afternoon Tea. It was £5. and it was a dessert buffet with tea included. If there were scones or finger sandwiches, I do not remember them. What I do remember was an assortment of twenty or more pastries, cakes and sweets, of which you could have a serving of any, or all, with seconds. Coming all the way from the colonies, it was not an everyday treat. So I would skip Lunch on Harrod’s Tea day in order find the fortitude to leave a serious dent in the patisserie service after the second or third assault. Were those the good old days? Yes, I believe so. Repeated assaults.

This afternoon tea is really almost 137 pounds????? Wow! I can't believe it. For tea and scones and dryish sandwiches? Even if the scones are wonderful, that price is way too expensive. Even if it's all you can eat, that is outrageous. Who eats there? Are they executives, surgeons, royalty, successful people in the entertainment fields, owners of banks, etc.

Thanks for review. Definitely good to know! We're huge afternoon tea fans in my house ! If you ever come to Dublin, you must review The Westburys Hotel Afternoon Tea. It's situated just off Grafton Street! It's excellent. And served in a really beautiful relaxing lounge, you're not too close to each other, service is amazing, and the selections on offer really good! What struck me immediately from your video, was the noise and busyness of the room, with the strident piano playing, then being so close to the reception, the tables also very close together, it reminded me of an upscale canteen at a busy train station! I'm sure it's marketed to tourists and relying on the name Harrods! You're quite right, you can find probably much better in the price bracket. I quite liked afternoon tea at Sketch London, not so much pomp and ceremony and a little different. It was a while since I've been though... Any roads, I'm rambling. Thank you for your post and happy tea travels! Melissa

The days of Harrods being an “exclusive” store are long gone. The only things exclusive now are the ridiculously high prices. I’m pleased you gave a fair and honest review and not some P.R. push. As a Londoner it would be way down on my recommended list for visitors wanting to experience a good quality afternoon tea. The store is simply a tourist hot spot and just about the last place in London you would want to buy anything from, unless of course you’re as pretentious as the place itself - lol

After the surcharges it is L68.50 per person. What is Hrds Still (1). Do they charge L6.50 for a bottle of tap water?

We Londoners avoid Harrods at all costs. For real elegance try Claridges and Fortnum's

That’s such a ridiculous statement firstly a majority of Londoners can’t afford these places and the one that can go wherever they want. Basically real Londoners just don’t take pictures of themselves in these places.

The expensive prices in some places are the way used to select people that can go there. So we are not invited...

Harrods restaurant was called Georgian (as in - of the time of the Kings called George) rather than Gregorian, which is a form of plainsong sung generally by monks.

I think that paying 20 more £ you may have tea at Savoy Hotel. It is worth the price, I gather.

Afternoon tea at The Ritz Hotel in Piccadilly is much better. Same price if not a little cheaper. Impeccable service and ambience. Reservations needed.

I took my teenage daughter for afternoon tea and scones. Definitely doesn’t have the intimacy anymore. People walking past to do their shopping. We were sat right near the pianist and it was so loud and grating I asked to be moved as it was giving me a headache. When the scones came hardly any jam and cream to be shared then asked if we’d like some more scones after. I would’ve appreciated more generous portions for original serving as I cannot eat more than 2 at a sitting and for £40 each it definitely wasn’t the treat we’d hoped for. Ticked off my bucket list but wouldn’t really recommend it to others.

It is most of the times it is the experience ......you can eat a tart on the street. On a bus. In a park. But how many times in a lifetime you get the experience of being " served " at one of the great stores in the world..........just sayiin

There's nothing quite like a Boiled Chop with a humble onion and a liberal shake of Dill, some oxtail soup to thicken, served with potatoes, there's a Greek lad there serving the table Watch him, he's inclined to break wind freely as he passes your table, rather pungent reeking of curry !
