I finally received AoA on Fri. Last night I played a Bishop Leadership X-men ally swarm (with Uncanny X-Men, Team Training, Triskellion). I never drew my Uniform or Triskellion and still dominated. Bishop is a high-tier hero.
Nice!! Glad to hear you got your AoA! I absolutely agree he’s very powerful. Energy Absorption + Uniform is bonkers but Bishop doesn’t need them at all to be viable.
Mostly agree! Played through it 4 times now. Heroes are great. Both Apocalypses are great. Horsemen really push stunlock , so I rate maybe a little lower. Dark Beast is weak, agree. Missions are 0/5. Strandard 3 is awesome! Overall, great box. For me, no "top scenarios", but nothing bad either. 8/10.
Thanks for sharing! I definitely relate to every bit of what you said. I didn’t play with stuns, but I can see the Four Horsemen really getting neutered by stunlock and not being as interesting anymore. Good point! The design of the scenarios are definitely very high although they don’t beat out the tops for me either, except Apocalypse II. That might be my top 3/4 favorite scenario in the game 🤩
magik gives me a similar feel to captain america. they're very strong and consistent, but they don't do anything flashy that makes them stand out from the crowd

Yay! Been waiting to find someone that is ranking this new set. I agree, Bishop is cool. I wish Iliana was what I was hoping for. Would have been cool if she could phase out to limbo to escape damage like in the movie. I really liked this set! Just got into the game!
Welcome to Marvel Champions :) this game is going to change your life! Phasing out to Limbo would be really cool. Are you referring to New Mutants? Magik’s abilities were crazy awesome in that movie 😆 her hero kit feels more like an economical strategy style compared to being a force of nature like her portrayal in that movie
Wow I'm honestly surprised by Four Horsemen and Dark Beast but it makes sense. I'm glad these villains are still fun and well designed despite none of them being too crazy in terms of difficulty.
Yeah i was disappointed by the difficulty, but it doesn’t feel bad at all when we get 5 amazing new scenarios added to the game. And these scenarios are easily all in the top of being fun!
Bishop is now my favorite hero to play (and I never had a favorite prior to this, though I enjoy playing every hero). I agree that the defense card Energy Absorption is a great card! I played Bishop 10 times (2 times for each aspect) and had a great time with all of them, but I found that using Energy Absorption became a key strategy of my play and it's just a fun card!
Nice!!! That’s crazy to hear he became your favorite hero! I didn’t realize how beloved he is in the game but I don’t disagree-he’s easily top 5 for me. Cool to hear that you also really enjoyed his defense event :)
@@webwarriorfanatic His unique playstyle makes him feel so different. I also found him to be the best hero for the Lockjaw ally. Whenever I needed extra resources to get rid of, Lockjaw could come back into play to take care of a couple more points of damage or thwarting.
X-Man is like a cheat code for Magic. Just keep putting him on top of your deck with Limbo, then draw him into your hand at the end of the player phase. It's infinite tough.
Yes! I totally agree with your assessment on missions. I love the idea, however, the gameplay of it did feel tedious and just wasn’t fun. The Market from GMW was great, but that box was so poorly received i don’t think they will revisit it. But the Sinister motives campaign is still my favorite.
Yea I wish missions felt more integrated with the scenarios but I appreciate the idea too. I’ve looked at some of the Market stuff from GMW and those look really cool haha.
@@webwarriorfanatic I guess I like that they try these unique ideas in campaign as to allow the scenario to stand alone if you don’t like them. 😅 or mess them up for a lack of a better term. I really want them to keep pushing the creative juices for this game tho and not become formulaic.
@@danielcraig6615 I completely agree. It’s better to take risks and fail then not take risks at all. Especially with mechanics like missions which they can simply not include in future boxes. Ideas like player side schemes and the ‘Pool aspect are some of the most creative ideas that I really enjoyed. That out of the box thinking is what has me obsessed with Marvel Champions!
Here in Italy the expansion is not published yet, so I just can't wait to play it!!! I wonder if it is possible to rank up the difficulty by just switching modular sets, or maybe adding a superpower... or even the infinity gauntlet
Aww yea I’ve been hearing that the shipments to Italy has been delayed unfortunately. I’m hoping you guys can get it soon 🤞🏻 In terms of the difficulty, I think adding harder modulars would absolutely crank it up. That’s one of the coolest thing about this game-everything is adjustable for whatever the player wants. I think playing these scenarios with standard II/expert II would be particularly difficult since a lot of the scenarios already deter blocking with allies.
missions could have been so much better if they had a splashy effect once completed. They're just tedious with little control over how they progress. Box still slaps though
@@webwarriorfanatic a live playthrough could be interesting if going live is something you want to do. I figure that’s probably the same as a normal video for you.
I finally played all the villains and heroes (not campaign) in the box, and I must say, I think Bishop is my favorite hero out of the box and is probably in my top 10 now :) Magik is fun, but like you said she takes more work to play. I haven't tried playing Bishop in other aspects, but I imagine he's great in any aspect. I mostly agree with all your assessments on the villains. although I don't think Apocalypse is that unique.. you can almost play him like Hela and wait to build before working through all the side scheme/prelates like Hela. I think he's harder than Hela though, so I think he should be 4/5 based on your criteria. Dark Beast is definitely the easiest scenario. Standard 3 is cool, but I don't think it's the best thing ever... it's basically Standard 1 with a slightly higher probability of nemesis to appear with a slightly lower chance of villain scheming in exchange for nemesis coming out. Your rating about the missions reflects my concerns about it and makes me want to play the campaign even less. Great video!
Thank you! Really good points. And fair assessment on Apocalypse I. He is very similar to Hela but I found his scenario an improvement because his attachments are nastier and defeating him brings threat on the main scheme to 0. I thought i had to make interesting decisions on when to knock him out to clear threat when I didn’t have thwarting and to remove his overkill/retaliate. As for Hela, I agree that she’s straight forward in that I just build on her first stage and can just ignore her attachments.
Missions are FFG’s way of selling you cards that will seldom see gameplay. They’ve been doing that a lot lately. At least there’s no way to screwup individual hero packs for the rest of the year, right? Right!?
The campaign is a slog. I think you hit it pretty well, by the time I start the mission I'm one to two turns away from winning, but end up having another 30-40 minutes of gameplay just to deal with the mission.
It does feel like a slog. I feel like interesting decision-making goes out the door because I can only allocate resources to the mission when I’m controlling the scenario and like you said that’s usually at the end of the game and my board is already built out :/
More constructively I've played Magick one time on my phone in a deck very like your 50 card horror but without the red cards. I like drawing cards and playing pure basic so I did enjoy it. She lacks a big punch but has good early economy and fun deck manipulation puzzles. She felt like Venom - same eco and conditional status effects, Sorcerer supreme ~ spider sense. He's a bit stronger but then he's very good. Your assessment of the mission thing sounded very much like how all the additional campaign stuff works. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'll probably just play the scenarios in order without the campaign stuff.
@@jonathanpickles2946 that’s pretty much my feelings towards Magik as well. And yea I personally wouldn’t recommend the missions but I’m glad that the developers are introducing new mechanics in the game to keep it fresh.
