Its scath-born, not skaw-born. If GW was going to throw Gaelic influences into the army, they would go all out and make it clear that they were inspired by that language and mythos at first glance. Its probably just a coincidence.

Yeah but No. The only gaelic influence is in Druhir the Dark Elf language. Also Scáthborn cannot be "scathborn" - there'd be no need for the accent. And to pronounce it that way you have to ignore the Caillich Coven (which is as I said above a corruption of Cailleach - Scots and Irish Gaelic for Witch) and Cathrar Dule (which is a corruption of Cathach - battle). There are tons of words in druhir like this even the really old name for the Witch Elves was Tulluch which is very similar to the name of a Scottish town. GW can blend and overlap as many cultural references as they like. Plus Scáthborn = Shadowborn. Also Scat-born = Sh*t-born Also I wouldn't take GW's pronunciation as a guide TBH - Duncan might one of the few ppl that pronounce "Sycorax" (which should be "sick-OR-axe" after the witch in the play 'The Tempest' by Shakespeare) as "psi-KOR-axe". Unless they are deliberately mispronouncing the word which makes zero sense :p

Zedatkins Zed My point is that if GW wanted to pronounce it scawborn instead on scatheborn they would have just spelled it scawborn. They are anything but subtle.

THe book is a little vague. Khaine is technically around, the last sliver of him in an artifact caled the "Heart of Khaine". Morathi seems to be siphoning off its power to fight at a god-like level. The reason for the confusion is that the battletome clearly says Khaine is gone, but theres one little text blurb on a random page that mentions the Heart of Khaine.....so..... odd
