Why on earth did they bring the percentage to hit from AOWP to this game...

@@Psunabudes In AoW3 ranged attacks always hit, but falls off in damage the further away you are, or if the enemy is behind cover. It's one of the benefit of AoW3, to be honest. It makes battles much more precise, without any chance-based mechanics. Percentage to hit was only introduced in later expansions, and only for the halfling races, where supposedly it is due to the halfling's 'luck'.

Yeah they are very difficult to see by default. If you select any province you get highlighted borders though.

Yes it reduces city resource production. I think it's -30% but might be remembering it wrong.

sure "a few stacks" isn't common, but having common mean 90% makes for kinda boring maps. Should probably more in the 30% - 50% range. So still more common than anything else, but you actually see something else to

To each their own. Most of us probably would find what you consider accessible as outright simplistic to the point of being mindless. So better not discuss individual mental faculties, especially if you're not at the high end. Just keep it for yourself, you have no bragging rights.

It's extremely early game, there's tons of units as you progress.

If that is how units works I will be happy. The original is my favourite of the series. I want to see giant beetles, wyvern, dragons. 🤞🤞

Good comparison, you're right. They've finally done something about the core aesthetic, it really feels modern. I think that's half of its success, because the dynamic itself is not that much different (apart from some really fresh stuff, most of which isn't exactly front and center), but people are much more willing to play it.

Too early to tell. Planetfall is awesome and I imagine AoW4 will prove to be as well. Early impressions are good.

I'm looking forward to seeing if they take lessons from what works here and what doesn't for an eventual PW2.

Lizardfolk are confirmed for the first DLC.

I'm the opposite, I love playing certain races cause I love them, not because of certain mechanics they bring. I'd hate if by default elves were always gonna be the best option for ranged/battlemage focused builds, rather than me wanting to go for dwarves that are magical or orcs, or things ending up with each form gets different traits for different things, but X traits are just far superior than another for doing such a playthrough like for some reason moles are best at magic and then elves' traits are just the worst. I love the freedom, feels more like an MMO where you pick whatever you fancy looking at or speaks to you, not because it mechanically means anything. To some that feels pointless, but to me that's a golden choice. It's all up to the player playing the game if you wanna stick to what makes sense or not.

@@prinstyrio0 Personally, I am not all that interested in purely cosmetic choices. Its hard to feel invested in a choice where there is no weight attached to that choice. The characteristics of races are part of what adds to their thematic character and makes them interesting. In AOW3, orcish and elven warlords were both interesting and valid choices in a way they could not have been if they were purely cosmetic. So long as the dev takes the time to make a racial variant of a culture that is actually compelling, like the elven mounted archer or the orcish warbreed, them not being perfectly balanced doesnt matter. So long as each combination has some benefit, and its not just a strictly inferior choice with only downsides, that's fine. There is still a reason to take that combination. Ultimately, obsessing over balance doesn't make sense for a game played overwhelmingly against AI and where huge rng in map generation can significantly imbalance games. MMOs need to have little weight attached to the choice because they need to be tightly balanced, but even in MMOs where top end gameplay is highly competitive like WOW, minor racial traits are still allowed. Also, some of the things this could give rise to are frankly quite silly, like moles having inferior underground capabilities and superior swimming capabilities relative to toad people for example.

Seems like there should be a balance between the two - some level of customization but from options that match the racial form

@@notalefty999 Whos to say that in someone else's realm that The moles have conquered above ground, dominated and forgotten their ways? And have forced the Orcs halflings underground. The point of having the customisation is to create your own Faction/Race your own story, and your own heros from whatever story you want to play. You are not required to customise if you do not want too.

@@BrockyB91 That isn't how evolution works. When lifeforms change in function, they change in form. When certain species mammals evolved to live in the sea exclusively, their physical form had to change dramatically to accommodate this. If moles adapted to live exclusively above ground, they would change in form. Mental gymnastics aside, no, it is not reasonable that forms as different as toads and moles are entirely interchangeable in their characteristics. It strips the choice of mechanical significance and narrative coherence. Its not "creating" your own story. Its just gibberish. Making race purely cosmetic doesn't add to the richness of the lore, it detracts from it.
