Agents of Shield 5x14 REACTION!! "The Devil Complex" 

I've been rewatching Series 1 and there is a kind of ruthlessness that he's capable of. He's happy to watch Garrett dies after short-circuiting him with an EMP for example. Like you say, that's the kind of complexity they've built, his character grows but there's also a layer of consistency. Rewatching this season is going to be great (I'm in the UK and behind) for all the little moments. Daisy calling him 'Leopold'! This show is so well written.

Now that I think about it, there have been some hints that fitz has not really changed all that much from the framework. One hint was when he efficiently killed the kree.

I disagree with the frequently posted opinion that early season 1 episodes weren't any good. I think the main problem some viewers had with season 1 was that they were expecting to see Marvel superheroes on tv and that was not what AoS was about. I've always thought of AoS as being more like a Mission Impossible style secret agent show. The subsequent addition of super powered characters was a welcome bonus but has never been my primary motivation to watch the series.

I _love_ Mission Impossible style secret agent shows but the first half of season 1 wasn't great, the writing was pedestrian and predictable, most of the plots and at least one of the characters felt cookie-cutter (which in retrospect might well have been very clever, avoiding spoilers), the chemistry of the team hadn't gelled yet etc. If you watch all their 100th episode interviews the creators hint that before _that_ S1 event they didn't feel like the show was firing on all cylinders and I agree. Man, is it firing on all cylinders now though and has been for at least the last 2-3 seasons. One of, if not the, best shows on television IMO, why more people aren't watching it boggles my mind.

"writing was pedestrian and predictable" - don't agree about that. "the chemistry of the team hadn't gelled yet" - well, it was a brand new team; only May and Coulson previously worked together. Whether by chance or by design, their characters' initial awkwardness with each other fit the narrative of season 1. Also don't agree about the plots and characters being cookie cutter. AoS has the same showrunners and many of the same writers through all 5 seasons. Though I do think the show has gotten even better over time, I don't think there was some huge jump in quality from season 1 to season 2+.

His mind is like fractured. When he's under extreme pressure because he can't bring himself to do something he doesn't want to, the Doctor persona kicks in and takes charge. It's a way for the brain to relieve responsibility, as if he didn't do it himself, but someone else. That's how Dissociative Personality Disorder works, to my understanding at least. The brain compartmentalize what it can't handle.

I'm not sure spider-man would be a good match. The Doctor is just a bit too serious and clever for current spider-man. I mean i could see him causing trouble for almost any of the heroes or taking on the defenders. People might underestimate the character because of his limited screen time and circumstances but if you gave him prep time and a mission like most villains get he would be really dangerous.

Yeah i was trying to imply a 1 on 1 situation. Together the avengers should be able to handle almost anything after all. Its like how Quake could potentially beat/kill certain members but the whole team is obviously too much on her own. I mean assuming she doesn't unlock "destroyer of worlds" mode or something by the end because thats definitely enough power to take on the entire team at this point in the avengers story line. The doctor could take on guys like Captain America or Iron man rather well given the right setup. I could definitely see him doing as well as any of the solo villains bar the crazy OP ones like Hella.

I agree. If she never forgives him I can understand. That's why I say it was a heartbreaking episode. The level of cruelty and betrayal from that close of a friend is something that would be incredibly hard to forgive.

my main question is how can fitz possibly hope to earn redemption for all this?? he had to somehow make his way 7-plus decades in the future and carefully plan out a 4th dimensional rescue of the entire team from a *kree-apocalypse* to make up for what "the Doctor" did in the framework. at this point he's gotten mac shot, put yo-yo in danger, had his new wife and newly-identified *future grandson* held at gunpoint while he scalpeled a hole into daisy's cranium, possibly paralyzing her and risking the quaking apart of the planet...most of it this time, BY CHOICE smh i feel so bad for this man!! 😖 😞 #POSSIBLEhoneymoonRUINED

It depends on how long all the events we've seen took to occur and how concerned they are with being scientifically accurate. Morning sickness doesn't being until week six at the earliest. I don't think it's been six weeks since they got married. Pretty sure it's been mere days on the show. But working backwards, how long were they gone to the future? Maybe a week? Or two? Then there was the framework, which wasn't actually that long. I think Daisy and Simmons were in for a couple days. Before that was LMD, and don't think there was time for bedplay then. That was probably a week or two. Before that was Ghost Rider. And yeah, they were probably having sex then. Was that six weeks ago for them? If so, then Simmons has been pregnant since early last season. But that would be the only way it would be morning sickness. Just to clarify, though, she could have gotten pregnant on her wedding night, and be pregnant now. That just wouldn't cause her to vomit this soon. It doesn't happen that fast.

He REALLY needs a hug from his Grandpa! Fitz has treated him so dismissively since they got back to their time. Perhaps, Deacon entering Fitz's cell, and telling him how much Fitz means to him and his future will balance Leopold and give him some clarity. Next episode, the tables will probably be reversed: Nana Jemma and Papa Leopold will be very concerned for Grandson Deacon's welfare.

I've got a gut-wrenching fear that this season will end with the world saved but with the cost that Deke is gonna get erased as a paradox... and the show ends with him finally playing catch with Fitz and Fitz goes to throw him the ball... and Deke isn't there anymore...
