I'm not even talking about this case at all, but I find it so petty that some people are so needy that they'll only give love back if they receive it first. you really have to be weak and emotionally bankrupt to be upset about a cat being scared of you and ignore it for that reason.

I did that when I was 14 with a stray border collie mix dog that immediately stuck to me like glue. After my parents finally decided to let me keep her, the whole month of August I spent roughly 18 hrs per day/night comforting her and sitting and laying with her because she was so sickly from the deworming and other meds the vet put her on. She was only like 2 years old and was definitely abused, neglected and dumped. She never left my side and never needed to be put on a leash.

@@user-kq6ki5bn2k, I imagine that being in a shelter is traumatizing for all animals, especially the older ones as they are much more aware as to the sounds and smells. Yeah, some people think stray and feral are the same thing. @Hooch Smeeth like you said, not meowing. The type of vocalisation you see in this video isn’t that of a feral cat... And yeah, hissing and screaming can happen, but isn’t that also more common in semi-feral felines? As in, living on the streets but having some form of human contact (via feeding, for example)?
@eleanor.shadow
@eleanor.shadow 3 года назад
@Hooch Smeeth I’ve only experience with volunteering at shelters, but in some cases we had extremely aggressive/fearful cats that turned into absolute sweeties when taken out of the crowded environment and into homes. I really wish shelters would STOP labeling cats as feral when they really are just scared! Too many cats get euthanized because people are too lazy to actually take the time to do their jobs. Also, they need to stop labeling certain cats as "rescue interest only". It's BS.
@Gaius__
@Gaius__ 3 года назад
Same with dogs. Most shelters simply don't have the staff, especially properly trained staff, to make the distinction. I think most shelter employees and of course all volunteers try their best, but are simply overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of animals in need. The best medicine for that is TNR, and of course pet parents neutering their fluffies.

It makes me sad to know that there are cars like him that don’t make it out of the “shelter” because they are mislabeled as feral or bad tempered. It shouldn’t matter if they are feral or bad tempered! They’re ALL scared! I wish there were more people like this lady out there and rescuing cats (and dogs and other animals, but mostly cats).

My three-legged boy Kyoto came from the streets. He was one of the ferals I was feeding and one day I noticed that he was dragging a broken leg around. For two months I tried to catch him without any luck as he would zip off quick as lightning whenever I tried to go near him. Then one day, out of the blue, he came to me meowing while I was feeding the other ferals as if asking for help and amazingly he let me touch him! So I quickly bundled him up into the carrier I already had on stand-by in my car and shipped him off to the vet. Unfortunately, the bad leg had to be amputated. I brought him home after the surgery and for several weeks had to endure countless bites and scratches from him whenever I fed him and tried to touch him. He was so feral that I even contemplated releasing him back on the streets after he recovered, thinking that he simply wasn't happy being a house cat. Turned out he just needed a little more time and patience. Today he is my sweetest, most docile furbaby who loves kisses and cuddles. I'm glad I gave him a chance, and I'm glad he gave me a chance too.

That's not whaz scared him. See, what really seperate us human beings from actual animals is the ability to review things. Our cognitive abilities let ud review, learn and think far into the future. Animals don't do that. For us, it's heartbreaking to see deformation but they don't care too much about these things. They find their way to live with it and while we complain and doom everything, they don't. And that is truelly inspiring

I had a stray who wouldn’t let me pet him for 8 years... he attached to my feral who defined the word scaredy cat. When the feral passed, he attached to my most gregarious stray I had adopted. All of the sudden he decided to try to get on couch with everyone and see what cuddling was like. Now he is the most cuddly cat I have ever owned. It is like he is trying to make up for all those years he wouldn’t participate in the ‘family cuddle time’ (which consisted of a huge Newfoundland, boxer and 3 cats (since he and Buddy wouldn’t participate). He is now my only cat & older and he lives for our cuddle time. 🥰

I don't know how to describe the joy of a special needs cat. I lost mine to a neuro disorder this past year. Despite that, the time we did have together was awesome. I miss her every day.

This was obviously not a true feral. I have had several true ferals in my home. I trapped them and got them fixed and they lived in my home from then on. One is still alive. They all became cuddle bugs eventually even though it took several years. I never cared that I couldn't touch them as long as I knew they were safe and warm and had all their needs met.
