Dude this was amazing. I was thinking that you were playing way too fast and making misplays and then i saw your point. You had such confidence in your deck that you didn't even need to think hard what to play because you've already won. And your commentary about the slay the spire community and the "which deck archetype is better" question was great. I too started picking reflex a lot and somehow didn't notice it can draw itself and that makes it a lot easier than any other infinite deck. Normally i go infinite by having 2 net 0 cost draw cards and with reflex upgraded you only need it and a net 0 cost discard card (prepared or concentrate) it all makes a lot more sense now to me.
I love that you can have fun and goof off a little in your runs, for instance taking/upgrading and then immediately deleting footwork, and also have an extremely powerful infinite that does practically everything. Goes to show how you don't need to tryhard, or you don't need to spend 5 hours on a run and play strictly seriously to succeed.
There’s definitely a time and a place for streaking, taking 8 hours but it’s just not fun… Its a game for gods sake. Just have fun with it and push yourself how you wanna push it. Good stuff Trick
A20 not enuff. A21 - Toxic egg is still in the relic pool but cannot be picked up. A22 - potions will periodically discard themselves. A23 - You must take footwork at some point in the run and upgrade it, then remove it.
I'd love a defect run. I've been struggling with my A20 heart runs on Defect recently and you always provide a refreshing play style to the more conventional players/youtubers out there. Totally right about the culture in that respect too I think. The metric of win rates or streaks is a very narrow way to evaluate game skill or knowledge or credibility. One could also choose ability at speed running as a metric or uniqueness of deck or how much fun you can have. Its a game, there a number of ways to play it and be good at it.
Sounds like having each run be a maximum of 1 hour long or otherwise be considered a loss would be a good idea for people who want to use win/loss ratio as a way of measuring skill
Been watching your videos a lot lately and I just wanted to say this. You are the enjoyable version on Jorbs You are crazy good at the game, but you are entertaining. I love Jorbs but not gonna lie, I fall asleep halfway through his videos...
Omg what did you do to poor footwork!! Somehow I never find myself in a position to get my deck down to so few cards like you seem to do so often. I feel like this doesn't stop you going infinite with silent though which is kinda silly. Acrobatics is ridiculous, somehow I always have like 3 of these in my deck. I used to struggle with energy a lot with silent. I guess silent is the character you have to work for it more than any other character. You draw cards and find a way to turn that into energy. That's the thing that I really like about discard with silent, a lot of the cards in that archetype effectively cost 0 energy.
Hard agree on the winrate aka e-peen measuring contest. A few of the *top* winrate players are just condescending and toxic. They spend upwards of 8 hours on a run and spend 4 of them talking ish about other players... It's like they forget most players play for entertainment not professional competition.
To some extent I get the no backseating rule a lot of streamers have, because some people actually just don't know how something works and say to do something that either isn't needed, or is impossible to do. Like you explained with your block engine being concentrate/survivor/reflex. I don't see many people run decks with literally one block card and just make infinite block every turn, and I bet most people haven't seen that either. However, I do think people are approaching the game as if it had been solved when it hasn't been, and pretend to know more than they do, which is a problem. As far as the measuring skill thing. You purposely tossed an upgrade, a good power, a toxic egg, a ghost in a jar, and still won with strong fundamental discard synergies. I think most people wouldn't even consider doing any of that for fear of throwing the run, myself included lol. I'm also a shiv enjoyer, but discard decks are hilarious if they can get their cards together. Anyway, sick run, and interesting thoughts.
Big agree. Also something funny about talking about how we rate skill of the game while turning down one of the best relics in that game lol I think the ego of people who olay this game professionally is what gets me. There is one of them that has implied that the game is too easy, according to the high win rates and that the game should have been made different for that reason. I.e. I play the game professionally and take 2+ hours per run and the game is too easy for me, so it needs to be harder for my sake.. like, the narcissism of that world view is insane and shows a total lack of awareness that it’s a $20 video game being played for a living; that’s not how this game was made to be played.
oh it is well over 2 hours/run for anyone with a leading character winstreak record closer to 4-5 hours per run, with aid from their twitch chats kinda reminds me of how speedrunning communities get to decide which glitches are legal and illegal to use...
The debate about global winrate seems incorrect. Do tennis players track their scores in their tournament games together with practice games? No! I think you could just have a "morning winrate" where you pre-declare which runs are part of your serious play, then have other runs for practice and it's not a problem. This would let you be known for your peak performance, while not restricting your exploration and experimentation in "practice" games.
I still dont understand why you didnt take Toxic Egg, it could save you alot of upgrades and help out, like upgrading all 3 of your Adrenalines. It confuses me not taking it, can you explain it so I can understand?
He basically said why, he just didn't feel like taking it. He's trying to show that you can play for fun and not necessarily "optimally" for win rate and such. Early toxic egg is definitely something that normally shouldn't be skipped but he did it as a kind of teaching experience.
