I like Adam’s perspective when demoing this pedal. Talking about wanting rolling 8ths to sit under the band and not pop out too much. He’s thinking as a producer, making the bass sounds work for the songs.
@@minibuns5397 He did producing/mixing and engeneering for several bands like Architects, Haken, Bury Tomorrow, As i Lay Dying, Devin Townsend, Sikth and his own band Peripehry.
I predict that there are no labels for which frequency each EQ band is for because eventually you'll be able to assign your own through the app. Also just wait for the ADAM Ultra that comes with Nolly himself!
Am always quietly amused when I share a stage with another band's bass player wielding a 6 string, and they ride the root all set. If someone wants to deal with a 6 string bass for the entire set for that one note they need to hit on song #4, it's none of my business. I'll keep my eye rolls internal.
Really awesome stuff. I even learned a bit about how compression works and the part about IRs and cabinets usually rolling off trouble, so character can be up a bit high without worry. Thanks, Nolly!
We have Adam Neely for the Jazzier side and Adam Nolly Getgood for this harsh distorted side!!! I really wanna see Adam Neely using this pedal. Or seeing them collabs
The colour of the pedal is just "spot on"! The sound..... Very heavy, very metal, but.... I personally like to distort my whole signal to the deepest mud of it all. So I use KMA Tyler to split my signal and use different distortions for the highs and the lows. Lots of tweakability there. And the sound... It is something else!😳 Even the lowest of the lows comes with POWER and AUTHORITY, and the highs... As "crispy" as you like!😁 But that's just me. I highly appreciate Darkglass products, just didn't find mine just yet... Greetings from Finland.🇫🇮
Darkglass, can you confirm that the audio in this demo is raw? Lots of companies post videos of their products but fail to mention that they went ahead and produced the sound heavily in a daw. Just want to know before I purchase!
Quick question with this. So if I wanted to use this and the Photon, could I control the Photon via MIDI through the ADAM and vice versa to say bypass it? Also anyone have an SVT like setting for the ADAM?
wait, this is a compressor/overdrive/distortion/boost/eq pedal all in one, an also a tuner? how the tuner works? now i have to sell my compressor, tuner and overdrive haha
@@SuperDeadpenguin yes there's its icon between the center and right footswitch so it must be activated by engaging both of them, but he doesn't mention it and neither darkglass website's features page strangely, except for a simple "and is equipped with an extra accurate chromatic tuner, that also works well with down-tuned guitars and basses" with no further details (i guess it shows through eq touch leds when activated). It is so rare in a pedal and some people look so much for its integration that it's a pity they dont talk about it at all...
no word on the tuner? from their manual : " TUNER To enter the tuner, press B and C simultaneously. To exit the tuner, press B and C simultaneously or one of the footswitch presets. ADAM will always return to the last active preset. ADAM will not output any audio when tuning. ADAM features a five-octave chromatic tuner, which can tune any note between B0 and A#5, allowing you to dial in any guitar or bass tuning that you desire. The tuning is derived from A4 = 440 Hz. Only one note can be tuned at a time. When the tuner mode is entered and there is no input signal, two red LEDs on the two rightmost sliders are shown by default. When an input signal is received, the left section of sliders will update to show the note that you are tuning. A small indicator is displayed to the top right of the note if it is a sharp note. When tuning, the two rightmost sliders will update to show how close your tuning is from the note’s perfect pitch. Distance below the center line indicates that the note is tuned flat, and distance above the center line indicates that the note is tuned sharp. The red LEDs will transition to green as you approach the perfect pitch, and the slider and preset LEDs will fully illuminate in green when you are on perfect pitch." I’ve had this for a year. Took me a while to get the hang of it, but once I did, oh boy. Great pedal. Funnily enough, I like it best when paired with my mustang bass 🤷
I am very fond of darkglass products and i do own 4 of them including the ADAM but what Nolly has unfortunately failed to tell us is that he probably feeds that pedal to his thousand dollar set up so everything sounds phenomenal! How about theaverage Joe that can't afford an expensive intaerface and all these compressors and mic pre-amps ? I am fortunate enough to have a great set up but the pedal does not sound anything like that unless you really dig in the dark glass suite and tweak the shit out of this pedal!
The direct out from XLR is only providing cab simulation. The 1/4 output is just the pedal, no IR. So, you can play through a bass amp and send the DI to front of house when playing live, or to an audio interface for recording.
Awesome tones! Seems like a great solution, but where in the signal chain of your pedalboard should you put other effect pedals like phaser, delay, octaver and such without losing low end? I was thinking about creating two seperate fx loops (loop 1: effects pedals and loop 2: empty to preserve low end), all before it goes in to the Darkglass ADAM. But maybe I'm thinking way too complicated. Any thoughts?
So it's basically the same thing we do in modern electronic bass music, splitting the low end and keeping it mono and distorting and effecting like 150-200 hz up?
BOSS MDP has done it for me, without having to worry about it. BC-1X , is the one for me compressing "automaticly" the right "stuff" on my signal. And believe you me, it is something to compress about...! The last part of this review, sort of, came close to my tone, but no cigar... 🤷
I’m going to go completely off topic here, that NG2 is a prototype according to Nolly yet the black hardware was obviously ditched for the chrome? The black nut ditched for the white? I’m sure production costs would need to be factored in to a production bass BUT doesn’t it look better with the black hardware and black nut? I’m aftermarket moving mine to the black hardware and probably going to go for a full black scratch plate too rather than the pretend carbon fibre one, as cool as it is though.
@@coveryourears3851 The tuners are easy, they’re Hipshot HB6Y 3/8 but I am sure that the bridge holes drilled are comparable with Hipshot Solo bridges. There’s not a lot of information out there, even on the Talk Bass Dingwall forum. Good luck dude!
When you said, "Aggressive Distorting Advanced Machine," everyone can tell you had to fight back the LOLs. 🤣 Also, it's pretty sleek how your head warps position in the video. I always knew you were an alien! 👽
@@SpartanTaylor eh, (in my personal opinion, no disrespect towards yours) I’d say B7K is 10x more versatile and the Omega side of the AO is pretty useless
Might sound like a silly question but can I use it as a preamp going into an amp? So one of the quarter inch outs has all the signal but no cab sim. I love the idea of using the Di cab sim front of house, but I don't want that running to my amp
I love darkglass stuff but this honestly is just not for me... so many options and it all sounds like the same can of bees being shaken slightly different
