Aghios Markos was a cargo ship constructed in 1919 and sank on the 22nd of April 1941 by an aerial attack during the 2nd world war. The ship length is 114.6 x 15.8 x 7.3 meters and 4513 grt in tonnage. It was powered by a single three cylinder triple expansion steam engine capable of reaching 11 knots producing a nominal horsepower of 517. The ship arrived from Argentina on the 21st of April. After disembarking its cargo it was carrying out short trips outside the harbor waiting for orders to re enter port when it received multiple attacks by German planes. This resulted in the sinking of the ship at Kaki Vigla off Salamina island. From the air raid one sailor lost his life out of a total crew of 33. The ship is located at a maximum depth of 45 meters and is easily accessible both from land and by boat. Although the shipwreck has broken into several very large sections the divers have a lot to see and are able to enter many parts of the wreck to explore further.
