The problem it seems with Agne's direction is that they seem to only add things based on aesthetics and cuteness, and very little on anything else. Mob design for example has directly become worse because of stuff like this.
If only her focus on aesthetics was directed more on new building blocks and biomes rather than mobs it would be even better. I mean only a year ago they added Cherry blossom, something that should have been added in like 2017. If I wanted cuteness in minecraft I would use pink blocks and flowers, I don't need 10 different cute mobs. Minecraft is a game about blocks, not mobs, the game is becoming something like cute pets simulator. Not saying they don't have a place in minecraft, I just don't want that 50% of each update is some random cute animal mob that doesn't do much. The frog hype was so annoying. It is just a frog. I don't understand how didn't they add flowering lillypads, willows and reeds for example, now that would be more useful and an actual update to swamps. I agree, the recent updates seemed like it was just more for looks rather than useful. The cherry blossom biome is a cool idea, but it could’ve used a bit more. Like maybe adding a Japanese village to loot, adding a Japanese outpost to go and fight mobs in order to get loot, idk just something. To me the cherry blossom biome seemed like another idea that had so much potential but they didn't do anything with it. It could've been introduced and presented like the nether update was in the past.

I feel so bad for Agnes. After the Wild Update incident she looked very upset... She's clearly loves her job and has a passion for _trying_ to make Minecraft as good as can be (key word trying), but she gets a lot of flack whenever things don't live up to player expectations. :(

I was surprised when she was talking during the 1.20 announcement, addressing all the concerns we'd had about 1.19. I'm glad she's taken the feedback from the community. For me, 1.20 was a hit, and one of the game's best updates. A beautiful way to turn things around.

Honestly, I disagree. Even way back, the Nether fortresses and the end biomes have had that effect on me, and so too do the more recent ancient cities, random ruined structures, and end cities. It tells a story of a world that used to be densely populated, but now isn't. There are some really great narratives about how the three dimensions and all the structures and mobs of the game correlate into a story and whether you believe them or not, I definitely think they add that experience

I kinda agree, but with some business knowledge I believe another strong reason as to why updates like 1.20 are so bad is because they neglect the base of minecraft, and try just adding new features. 1.16 was so beloved because it took a bad feature of minecraft and made it so amazing, same with 1.13, 1.14, cave and cliff generation too. However just adding a random new thing like archeology, or trial chambers, they don't help to build upon the foundation of minecraft, but simply add another thing. This is known as short term marketing strategies, by adding a completely new feature of minecraft, instead of working on the worse existing aspects of minecraft. With this in mind, all 1.20 does is add another thing, having to compete with the aspect of minecraft in of itself. Whereas, with your ideas, it would be so much wiser to not add completely new things like archeology, the deep dark (quite useless except for sneak speed and volume mechanics, would could have been easily incorporated into another aspect of pre-existing minecraft), and trial chambers, but instead build upon existing parts of minecraft and focusing on upgrading the game at hand, not expanding faster than they can control. With your plans then, like improving birch forests, snowy forests, ambience, the desert, the end, beaches, so many aspects of minecraft that appear lackluster, it can help to make every aspect of the game so much better, making every player treat minecraft more as a sandbox game of not just getting netherite and farms and sort of ignoring most of minecraft, but incorporating minecraft into everything, making it a world you wish to actually explore and look around, not just run through. In essence, with focus on upgrading the worse parts of minecraft, it can be more of a focus of the journey of minecraft, not simply the destination of where you finish.
I agree with you, the caves and cliffs update was my favorite because it gave the caves so much more depth and exploration and made the mining experience so much more fun. I would like diamonds to be a little bit more rare to find tho so the excitement of finding them is still there, but other than that it made the mining experience so much more fun. I just think all these things that are being added, while they're cool ideas, they don't add anything to minecraft. The desert is a great example of something they could make better. They could add skeletons in the ground, they could add vultures fly around dead corpses, they could add a sandstorm, like I can think of so many ideas for the desert. They definitely need to start focusing on taking old ideas and upgrading them to where it can make minecraft feel fresh again, but not so fresh that it doesnt feel like minecraft.
I have to say, I love 1.20. You have a valid point and of course a valid opinion, but I think the archaeology feature is amazing and unique. It's one of my favourite additions to the game and one of my #1 features. Along with armour trimming...no one was expecting that, but it came out awesome! I don't know. I just think 1.20 was a hit.

The problem with caves and cliffes was it ended up being so spread out that subsequent updates felt very directionless. It would’ve had a much much more different reception if it pulled a 1.16

I don't know if it's Agnes fault or whoever it is, but it feels like Minecraft is going for a more aesthetic "phase" than an actual innovative one (Phase in " because I couldn't find the right word). Like, it's cool that we have a good looking game and stuff, and it's also appealing to kids which is also a big factor here, but maybe the dev team is focusing a little bit too much in aesthetics? Like the Cherry Blossom Biome, it's a cool biome, but it has nothing more than a new type of wood and a pretty tree yk, no villages, no new structure, nothing, just a "boring" biome like any other, one you'll need to use one time in your life to get the new wood or to build a japanese base and that's it. Not saying every biome needs to be a whole ass update, but the Cherry Blossom biome was almost the focus of the entire update announcement and they didn't add nothing cool to it
That biome was added way too late, the idea for it existed for like a decade probably. Also the promised biome updates, when? I hate how swamps just got frogs and not the obvious ideas many had been suggesting: willow trees, flowering lillypads, reeds; I hate how updates are now 50% new mob than other features. Minecraft is a game about blocks and building so a new wood type makes sense and the world in minecraft is so wast it could use new biomes and the real upgrade on existing ones.

The new swamp biome is ok, but just that, you can't do nothing with it except the usual (Getting a new wood and a new variant of bricks), you can't even build a base there without massive changes in the terrain, I usually just turn around everytime I find one of these. They are promising too much for what they can handle. They know the MC Community doesn't care about an update every 6 months, just work and spend the time of 3 updates on a single good and big update
@@gianstbthe mangrove swamp is one of the coolest and good looking biomes theyve added IMO, usually not good for building but mangrove wood has a beautiful color for building. The pinkness of the cherry wood makes it's building use-cases very niche. i doubt most people, especially good builders, use the cherry wood much at all

@@kthuludevoh yes it is a very good new biome and the wood is very versitile. It is cool. And for cherry wood yes it is a bit underused but there were players who did want pink wood planks. Honestly I use it for victorian houses, cute cottages and seaside towns in temperate and colder regions as they tend to be wooden and colourful (so acacia and mangrove planks too). Now I would be so glad if white planks existed (maybe maple tree), that would be a lot more used than cherry for most people I think.
I think a big issue, with Mojang in general, is that their feedback site looks like it was created in 2012. We need a mobile app, as well as a *functioning* website, linked directly through the Minecraft launcher, for us to suggest changes and report bugs. Currently, it's just super clunky.
I just want mobs with an actual use and has purposeful item drops. A new dimension. Blocks that have uses and aren't just for decoration. Better inventory. New weapons and armor. New ores that aren't based off of reality.

It's still quite the fantasy sandbox. I for one am actually pretty relieved they don't add in animals that will attack me at random, I'm tired of mining ice just to have to slay a whole Polar Bear family because of the dumb mechanic of a baby being around. I HAVE to also kill the baby, or random spawning adults will also get miffed with me, and it's all quite unsettling for me 🤷♂
Making everything going in the direction of cute instead of adventure and exploration make everything look like a pointless update. Fortunately for us the next update will be about adventure and crafting, but even that is feature lacking.

Seems like 1.17-18 were big updates in terms of things Minecraft players wouldn't normally see. Problem with such updates is just that, you don't see much if any changes. I'm sure there are still players bitter at Mojang for showing an image of an updated birch forest and then didn't implement it.
I am pretty sure that most players would notice the expanded caves, new cave biomes, axolotls, copper, and amethyst. Maybe they will bring back that updated Birch Forest for a biome vote or as a surprise feature in a future update.
I don’t think mojang shouldn’t have just 1 developer. Having just one doesn’t help the game at all. I like Agnes as a person she seems very fun, but the way she develops the game isn’t fun at all. They need to listen to the community more, and giving us what we actually want. Instead of guessing if we would like what they are giving us.

I had no idea that Agness designed Llamas. I think that Llamas are useful as an early-game and renewable Shulker Box. They also can be used as defence for Villagers (Trader Llamas) and for Sheep farms in biomes where Wolves spawn. Llamas were also the original Boat with Chest, and in my opinion are better than them.
They were added in 1.19 as they were part of the original swamp update concept from the 2019 Biome Vote. You could also use the Llama in a boat method if you want to have the ability to have another player ride in the boat while still having storage. Since I do not believe that two players can ride a Boat with a Chest.

When the warden was added I loved it. Other things like bamboo deco is something someone of a different culture would more likely like. The same with lamas, camels, etc.
Although witches are one of the coolest mobs in Minecraft. Feel like a magic/ enchantment type update is needed as those features in game are pretty old and could use some tweaking like the anvil cap

Exactly, not every new thing has to be loved by every player. I didn't like the allays, now I don't mind them. Bamboo and cherry wood I don't use but someone else will love it. Plus if she's 'ruining the game' if you have a world you'll keep for years, the areas you explore will stay as it was. So if the game is ruined by having far too much stuff, the areas you've already explored will stay the same. Unless obviously for things like expanding underground like the warden.

I think Llamas were well made, it's just that Shulker boxes made them obsolete for the average player too soon. If Shulker boxes were added in 1.12 instead of 1.11, people would've had time to use Llamas instead of just going straight for Shulker boxes. But it is what it is.
Llama inventory simply needs to be buffed to a double chest, and mules and donkey inventory buffed to a full chest. There is no rational reason why a llama or a mule or donkey shouldn’t be able to carry as much or more than the player, since that’s the whole reason people use animals to transport goods in real life.
@@Nephelangelo Double chest would be way too much, especially since a top tier llama can carry 15 slots of items, and can be led in long caravans which would have far more inventory in total than a double chest. Full chest for donkeys and mules is tempting, but they're alright as they are, in my opinion.
Double chest llamas wouldn’t be too much at all, it would simply make them useful enough that people actually used them. The whole point of using animals to carry goods is that they can carry more than a human being. Double chest llamas would be used when transferring large amounts of goods. what agnes is doing is just making everything all rainbows and unicorns. That gives the basic reasoning to why the newer uodates after the deep dark actually suck so much. And it seems that most people don't seem to like it.
Ultimately I think the issue is her assistance to include more and more structured RPG elements. Past the fact that we're sacrificing the nature and ambience of the game for pointless mobs, I think the trial chambers are a concerning step in the wrong direction. They take the freedom from the player to refuse to interact. When you have a core feature of a game that physically requires players to explore it at least once, that feature shouldn't heavily impact the gameplay of these players. The best Minecraft updates are passive in gameplay, and there's been a hard turn from ambient and generalist updates for more feature heavy "lore updates". This last update specifically just feel's so wrong. The trial chambers don't feel like something that would exist in Minecraft like the Mineshafts of Dungeons would, it feels like a feature you would see in a MMO. When describing it, the devs made it seem like a great oppertunity for PVP focused players. Every PvPer I've talked to about this hates it. If they want the "trial chambers" they've built them using already existing landmarks. The entire purpose of Minecraft is building upon the inherent creativity we all contain and each update see's these opportunities for creativity as fixed updates to be made. Each and every update has become "Look what the player's are building, why don't we just build it for them". This has worked in the past with the Village and Pillage update, even the Ancient Cities, but the core reason was because they're both open ended concepts. Both leave room for the imagination to utilize them as they wish. The sky is quite literally the limit for these features. However the Trial Chambers seem like a once and done thing. Like a built in mini game, that you'll play once and never again. I'm seeing signs of them adding items that are only obtainable through playing the trial chambers, which takes me back to one of my first points, which is taking away the freedom to REFUSE to interact. You could argue that the End and Nether contributed to the same thing, but there's a difference between going to a completely different world or fighting the game's biggest boss. Minecraft as a game is fundamentally at risk unless the Dev's are able to get it together and respect the wishes of the playerbase. We don't want Minecraft dungeons, we just want the end updated, or cooking implemented, or a Boss, or a new dimension, not meaningless and mundane activities that most player's want no part of.
Trial chambers are meant to be a tribute to the original box dungeons with a spawner, chests, moss stone, nothing else, as it's update close to 15 years of Minecraft anniversary. 1.13, 1.14, 1.15, 1.16, 1.17 were also close to and during 10 anniversary.
I'd love to see a "community choice" update, where the top 5 most popular/voted for suggestions are brought to the game. And then they could add in their ideas. Hell, it'd be great if they added 1 of the most popular/voted for ideas per update. That way the community can see their ideas brought to life

I wish to get some updates with far more basic improvements - like being able to create stairs and slabs from ALL solid blocks. Seriously, I want to create glass slabs and stairs... and the same with colored concrete, terracotta etc.... it can't be that hard to do compared to adding new mobs or changing the world generator.
One of an other video said very well, that Creeper, like the most iconic mob in the game, wouldn't added to the game at all Today. The managment (Microsoft mostly) are really limited the creative part of the game.
It's simple, Agnes assumes what she adds is what the players will want without asking or diving into the truck loads of suggestions on the Minecraft Feedback site. I want more fantasy mobs and stuff in the game and less real world stuff like bees, pandas and camels... I like mobs like the warden that completely took everyone off guard when it was introduced.

1.21 i still not being taken well by the community, we've been stuck in a nightmare for so long. I think that Agnes is just not fit for the role she has. Everything since 1.17 is going wrong. If it's temporary, like with other directors, then too bad it had to be on the very beginning. It'll be hard to rebuild reputation, and she's still doing nothing to do it.

She needs to consider more about the progression of the player from starting survival to finishing the game and beyond. Minecraft progression is just terrible - instead we get new things that aren't well thought out at all. I think it's time they found a new lead dev personally.

caves and cliffs had issues mainly because of the pandemic and being a bit to big if they had just announced it would be 2 parts from the very beginning there may have not been any issues instead of doing it part of the way thru 2021 where the world was in a very rough place
That's no excuse because they made the entire nether updated and pumped it out perfectly on both versions during the beginning of the pandemic when all the shutdowns happened. The pandemic excuse has gotten so stale.
The last update i really enjoyed was 1.16 Stopped playing survival after that until recently when a close friend wanted to play a bit. I expected tons of new features. To be fair, the new caves and the entire deep dark is really cool and makes mining fun now, but besides that? Goats, mountains, Sniffers, Frogs, a swamp with possibly the ugglies wood i've ever seen. Sure it was fun building with the new cherry wood, or make a big space for sniffers, but the game feels like it's still on 1.16 with a few side updates added on it.
