The ignorance and negligence of those Meitei who opposed ST tooth and nail have been exploited by the illegal immigrants to the hilt. They know the Achilles heel of the Meitei and where to strike the most. Some Meitei professors and their ilk do not even know the English equivalent of the Manipuri word Yelhoumee written in India's Constitution. In their subconscious mind, they always think of ST as children of a lesser god -- Hanthaba Thak in Meiteilon. Like the pot calling the kettle black, they openly used this sobriquet during TV discussion hours also. They don't look at the political and physical map of Manipur. Neither did they know the Kangpokpi district boundary begins from Langol Cheiraoching and Baruni hills, let alone Koubru and Thangjing. They miserably failed to understand the MLR & LR Act 1960 has long divided the hills and Valley. They again failed to realise the political destiny of Meitei living in the Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts are no better than the Kirayadaar while illegal immigrants there become Makan Malik. The same has been the political fate of Yelhoumee Meitei, living in eight Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal Kakching and Jiribam during every Lok Sabha election, unable to field contest election. Where have their political rights gone? Where has the political IQ of some Meitei Ojas and their ilk gone? Not a single eyelid batted. Like the lost children of history, walking from one spot of buried hope to the death rattle of another, how long will we flip the wrong pages of India's Constitution in search of Yelhoumee protection? No amount of ILP, NRC and Population Commission can compensate for the prolonged absence of Constitutional safeguards under Article 342(1). A list of Manipur's 34 Yelhoumee communities is appended to that Article where neither the Meetei nor Meitei is listed. Are we a group of self-styled Yelhoumees only, devoid of Constitutional recognition? Meitei ST opposers, may you please answer all this. Aren't we paying the price of ignorance and negligence accumulated over the years by becoming refugees and IDPs in our State today? Aren't we like a group of political prisoners under house arrest confined within a space of 6% of the total unable to cross beyond the Beitarani Thong of Kanglatongbi?
