"alot" is always TWO words, just like a little, or a bit, or a measure. Englishers, phaah! You "people" can't even leave the "R's" off of words that end with an A. - Go ahead and try it: Speak the words "data", or Australia, it sounds like "dater" and "australiaer". It is a wonder that you "English" speaking people have survived as long as you have. In the future, one of two things will happen. 1. All peoples will become American, speak English, and be Christian; 2. Everyone will be brown skinned and speak Arabic, and be Muslim, or Chinese and have no religion.

Little Leo looks like he has settled into the sailing routine pretty well. Nothing like sailing inland waterways, an adventure at every turn.

Not a situation anyone wishes to find themselves in, but part of sailing just the same. Happy everyone is safe.

Candid and raw! Glad to see you show this as most would not. A lot of sailors say they have never run aground. I say they are lying or have not run aground yet! This may help some who get into the same situation, like me! I use google maps to get another perspective of the reefs etc. André

Good to hear and thank you. Yes, we have spent the last week catching up with all the developments in using satellite images as an aid to navigation - particularly where nautical charts are unreliable. Stew

Drones and jet skis were created to prevent boats hitting reefs, of course there is always the "old" method of sending out a crew member in the dingy with a drag line. Again, Careening. Use the fulcrum of the mast to "tilt" the boat hull in the direction you want to go. Again, Ariun - How YOU DO-IN.
@SailingLuckyfish
@SailingLuckyfish 4 года назад
Yes, yes but heeling the boat using a halyard from the mast head is not an option available to catamarans.
@ricgaston6503
@ricgaston6503 4 года назад
@@SailingLuckyfish Correct - IF both hulls are stuck. Careening mostly happened with the rope under the hull AWAY from the side to be pulled up. The boat pulling at your stern in this video would have been more effective pulling the mast top away from the stuck hull - in my opinion.

Oh no! I can feel that scratching, transformed and transfered into my own belly/heart. A moment when decisions easily can be hasted. In retro perspective - would it have helped to put the Danforth much further away, due to lack of chain weighing the shank down, to get a better bite? And maybe letting the port winch take the most power?

Ooohh Cliffhanger!!..... You may have the MVC (most valuable crew) on board though Skipper. If I had Zaya next to me I wouldn't worry. Most likely go below for a G+T...be off in a jiffy...will wait in suspense until next week!

Oh no! You left us hanging. We've got to wait. Done it myself. You can't sail regularly in shallow water without it happening sometime. Shallow draft boats make you overconfident. It's a strange thing. The moment you touch, you immediately need an extra 2 inches of water to get afloat. I've had 2 anchors out, lines to winches, and heavy stuff in the dinghy to get off sometimes. I hope all goes ok.
@SailingLuckyfish

You are absolutely right. I reckon cats can make you complacent and that's what happened here.

When i first learned to sail the instructor took us to lunch at a waterfront restaurant. He had us sit and bet which boats would hit the tiny sand bar in the middle of the channel the restaurant overlooked. We had to guess the draft of the boat and the familiarity of the boat captain with the area to make a good guess. Maybe 1 in 20 hit it. We would laugh and laugh! :-)

Might not be a bad idea to take a cell phone picture of where your sitting when you anchor in relations to other boats.

Reducing weight by dropping anchor chain or putting other heavy objects in dinghy would have helped

I have been wondering. Why did you not drop anchor then put the dinghy in the water and offload water, fuel, and people to get an extra couple of inches higher in the water? Well, you might have done that and I just do not know yet.
@SailingLuckyfish
@SailingLuckyfish 4 года назад
We didnt offload weight, no. We are already pretty light! so much so I was able to lift the port hull slightly, while standing on the sand and while Zaya and Tim cranked on those winches. This is how we slid off. There is alot to love about the Wharram :-) Cheers, Stew
@SoundzAlive1
@SoundzAlive1 4 года назад
@@SailingLuckyfish I reckon that even the dinghy could be used to lift one hull or one end of a hull if they are that light. Tie a line on the transom and block and tackle to the keel or to a line under and up the a winch around the hull.
