Daechwita (대취타) is derived from the words great (대), to blow (취), and to beat a drum (타) and it describes the kind of music (often comprising of woodwinds and drums) that was played by a troupe of military musicians, particularly as a procession before the king. Anitra when you stopped to appreciate Yoongi's undercut omg yes, he looks so good with it I don't know what it is but him and RM i find looks so good with undercuts (though RM is undercut and the kinda faux hawk look). He went off and I was loving it. The part with Bang PD dancing I laughed too with glee oh my gosh so good. I really loved how he came for some people that I don't think normally get called out like I especially like the line "That's your excuse for poppin' pills, cry me a river you got no skills". I think they definitely did a great job translating the lyrics to english on the official mv in an impactful way so it also sounds great in english as I've seen I think a more direct translation read " Doing drugs for such a petty excuse, I feel sorry for you, it’s just that you have no talent". But whether Yoongi had something specific in mind when he wrote that lyric, I think it could be a blanket statement that applies to many.

I got this from someone else but I totally agree with it. Their theory was that blonde Yoongi in the video was the Yoongi from his last mixtape and he got over all the struggles that he mentioned then and became to evil and greedy. And black haired Yoongi wanted to stay humble and remember where he came from, so he went to kill his other self off to do so. He mentions that he had everything and back then he just wanted more clothes and money but he already has that and he became greedy which is what he didn’t want to happen.

It seems I have a different theory than most people. People keep thinking its Yoongi battling with himself but the lyrics very strongly make this seem like a diss track about someone/something rather than battling with himself. I think what is happening based on the lyrics is that the blonde yoongi is an imposter king and the BA looking Yoongi is the real king coming to take back his rightful throne. That’s why when yoongi is head banging with the blindfold the others head bang with him, and the executioner doesn’t kill him, bows down, and gives him the gun to take out the fake king. The blonde Yoongi looks like a king but doesn’t act like one, and sits up above everyone in the castle, swinging a sword at nothing, and giving orders while someone does his dirty work for him. The blacked haired yoongi, the real king, has people dancing in the streets with him one his way to take back the throne, and takes out his enemy with his own hands. Based on the lyrics line directly mentioning Bang PD and Tik Tok (not sure if there's any bad blood between BTS/BigHit and them) I think maybe this is related to all the companies/influential people (fake king) who’ve always tried to keep BTS down. They were always really slimy about it too usually using media outlets (executioner) to hype up false stories about the boys. I’m sure there’s a lot more to this than I actually know. I could’ve read this completely wrong lol but I think it makes sense.

Daechwita is tricky because the actual translation is a hit or something but culturally a daechwita is like a military dirge played as the king leaves his castle played with traditional korean instruments (which Yoongi has incorporated into the beat). So he says "daechwita play it loud." I think the double entendre was intentional knowing them. Also, the drawing on the scroll is of Bang PD (the boys have drawn him like that a few times over the years - JK came up with it I think and it's kind of their shorthand for him). In this, he's depicted with the chinese character for "dance" as his mouth. (Maybe telling Yoongi to dance because Yoongi says often he thought he was going to be a producer and then they asked him to dance.)??

I like this format. This is the way I watch new stuff too - first visuals/music MV and then the lyrics afterwards. Then I'm able to be surprised by the music changes and the visuals without any spoilers. The only thing I do different is I use the subs on the MV at least once, so I can see how the lyrics line up with the visuals (so, for instance, in this one, you would have realized that the drawing was of BangPD.) BUT, I totally understand not wanting to be distracted by the visuals while reacting to the lyrics - so I APPROVE. Haha, not that you needed my approval. You two were entertaining as always. :)
