I like doolset's translation of that line about your mediocre being special more because they use the word ordinary. My ordinary is your special, my special is your ordinary. He can perform in front of 100,000 people. That's his ordinary. We can live our lives anonymously and make friends without worrying if they have an agenda. That's his special. Glad you liked this. People happens to be my favourite song by Agust D. Please note that all the tracks of his first mixtape, Agust D, were written and PRODUCED by Agust D. So, he is truly more than triple threat. At first he dreaded having to dance, but he’s warmed up to it! 😅 You should take a deep dive into Agust D and D2. Maybe not in one sitting, but you will experience revelations as you see him evolve from ANGER to Philosophical musings. People is part of that mellowing process.

My favorite line in this is "Your mediocrity is my specialty, and my mediocrity is your specialty" and he goes on and on. I interpret it as Agust D pointing out that we don't have to be good at everything. Everyone's talents are not the same, and we're all good at something. Love seeing BTS from another perspective! En español, esa parte se ha traducido como "Lo que es normal para ti, es especial para mí; lo que es normal para tí, es especial para mí" Y tiene una interpretación diferente a la del inglés... Aquí se toma en dos sentidos: 1) Se refiere a las diferencias humanas, por ejemplo, en su cultura es normal que los hombres se maquillen (lo cual es muy criticado aquí) pero que nosotros tengamos otra perspectiva no nos da el derecho a atacarlos como si tuviéramos la verdad absoluta y viceversa ✌️ Osea, cada persona es un mucho... Y hay que tener la mente abierta 2) Hace referencia (literalmente) a su vida, pues lo que es normal para el como Idol es raro para nosotros (los fans no famosos 😂) y lo que para nosotros es normal como pasear por la calle "tranquilamente" para él es raro, ya que llama la atención de los demás al ser famoso. ¡Es muy interesante las diversas interpretaciones que se le dan en los distintos idiomas y solo entendiendo coreano no se tergiversaría el asunto 😅)

@@armylmb6206Realmente no hay una traducción "oficial" ni al ingles ni al español, pero es verdad que la traducción de "mediocritad" parece incorrecta... 'Doolset' es una traductora muy confiable de coreano a inglés, ella tradujo esta parte de la siguiente forma: "My being ordinary is rather your being special My being special is rather your being ordinary" Que es algo similar a la traducción en español que estan citando, además ella agregó la siguiente nota: «Nota: En el EP.5 de Break The Silence , una docuserie que muestra la vida de BTS durante las giras Love Yourself y Love Yourself: Speak Yourself en 2018-19, SUGA dijo: “Pierdes tanto como ganas. Ganas tanto como pierdes. Para mí, perdí lo ordinario. Ese es el mayor cambio. Lo que eso significa es que lo que es común para los demás es muy especial para mí, mientras que lo que es especial para los demás es muy común para mí. I hate how this translation changed “ordinary” with “mediocrity” 😅 and “special” with “speciality”. he’s not saying our life is mediocre compared to his. He’s saying “your ordinary is special to me. My ordinary is special to you”, meaning the ordinary things in you’re life (as a regular person) are special to me because I can’t do them. And the ordinary things in my life (as a celebrity) are special to you because you can’t do them. Therefore human are animal of regrets because we always want what we can’t have. But even with that mistranslation you still got the meaning of the song!! 💜💜

One reason I really enjoy watching u process music, especially those in a different language like BTS's, is that ur eyes are sharp with catching and absorbing lyric subtitles, fast in processing it accurately, and insightful in articulating some of the messages through your lens/perspective. that's what makes watching ur real time reactions enjoyable. u have knowledge in music, u actually marinate in different parts of the song and go deep into paying attention. u have things to say. u're quick witted and articulate ur thoughts succinctly too. u do have a way with distilling substance into simple words! plus ur vibe and energy is engaging and authentic (and ur natural demeanour is really hilarious!)

"People"is so special to me. It encompasses the neutrality of being alive, of being human. It is so comforting that people at high status like suga can tell all these "life mediocrities" without being offending or even sounding arrogant. Cause as army we all know his story. Suga comes from humble beginnings, who faces hardships before he get to where he is now. And i love that this song also encompasses his personality as a person. Saying things like "so what if we're hurt, so what if we cry, so what if things are happening to us, let life flows, lets not put too much worries, lets just live as we are, it is what it is." Those are such yoongi things to say. He's a person who's not always dramatic, very neutral & timid. Like rocks that stays in place through all the storms 😂 But people is one of my fav of agustd.

I saw your correct side-eye to the line about "your mediocrity is my speciality"... it's a bad translation. It's why we try not to use that acct, their translation is...not always accurate. It's actually "Your ordinary is my special" and then flipped, as kind of a commentary of his life as a celebrity and how small things we take for granted, are special to him, where as there are things we view as big and special and they are his everyday life. Based off this quote of his "“You lose as much as you gain. You gain as much as you lose. For me, I lost the ordinary. That’s the biggest change. What that means is - what’s ordinary to others is very special to me, whereas what’s special to others is very ordinary to me. Then, before you know it, your set of values changes, the values with which you see the worlds.” Enjoyed the review as always. :)

7:40 "repetitions of dramatic situations can exhaust your life" when I first heard this song and read this line, there were alot of crazy things happening during that time that still impacts the me of today. I was someone with strong goals but became someone who's too exhausted to care about dreams. This song holds a special place in my heart. And it's crazy how this song (and the entire mixtape) was released at the exact time I needed it🙏

I also have to say, Agust D will come up with his last trilogy of "Agust D" which is his first album called "D-Day" this 21st April. His first mixtape (Agust D) & second mixtape (D-2) is part of the trilogy. People pt2 is the pre-release of the album. I have to say Suga is ending his AgustD Trilogy. Suga said he made the alter-ego named AgustD to release his anger, and another side of him that he cant rlly show as Suga or Min Yoongi. But he have come to ending it, because i felt like AgustD is finally finding his peace & resolution. I felt like the new AgustD wont be as angry, as aggressive as we used to know. Suga also said he is a lot happier and calmer. As that said, im still excited for you to react more of agust d and explore his past mixtapes and get to know the growth of AgustD as Suga's alter-ego.

If interested their is a great interview with a few live performances called IU’s Pallette with Suga. IU is the feature on pt. 2 and they also did a song together earlier called Eight for IU. The songs they perform are Eight, People, and People pt. 2. (Also I think it gives off more vulnerability sometimes for willing to put oneself out their if even if you aren’t the greatest at something) P.S. Suga aka Yoongi has said for like 1-2 years that he started taking vocal lessons and became more serious about it. He doesn’t sing very often because it really isn’t his strong suit but you can hear his growth from People pt. 2. This is one of my favorites off of D-2. It is sooo good…

That line that says 'you're mediocrity became my specialty and my specialty became your mediocrity', he's said something about that in an interview or documentary. He said that the most notable distinguish at his position is the loss of the ordinary. Because of the position he's at, he does not get to do the everyday tasks everyone else gets to do, like going to a mall, eating at a restaurant, walking in a park etc. So those moments when he gets to do these things are very special to him. Most people would think that they're ordinary things and the things he gets to do as BTS' Suga are the actual special ones but to him those moments as BTS' suga become his ordinary everyday tasks and the common moments like going to a park, become his special moments.

The part about how things are special to us, but what's not special to you is special to him... He was talking about how the "ordinary" life can be something to envy: sitting in a coffee shop or restaurant and being left alone, going for a walk along the Han River, etc. We as ARMY might see his stardom as special and be envious of him too. Suga/Agust D has tons of range, I’m super excited to hear his new album when it comes out! (Note he plays piano & guitar as well!) A note: the line saying something like “your mediocrity is to be my specialty” was translated a bit strangely (these lyric videos are fan-made and not always accurate). It would be closer to something like “your ordinary is special to me, and your special is ordinary to me”. For instance he couldn’t say just walk down the street or go to a grocery store like you or I could, but things that seem special like performing for a bunch of people or going to awards show is ordinary to him. when you explain the contrast between different people’s lives in regards to fame, that’s part of what he’s talking about with the mediocrity & specialty lines. him going to dinner & watching a movie like someone who isnt famous, to him that’d be special but to others (not famous) that’s normal.. and vice versa. i love that you kinda just naturally understood it. it’s also why in army fandom, we protect bts as much as possible. there’s a saying, “if you see bts in public, no, you didn’t.” in this way, we can give them back some “normalcy.” especially since they give so much of themselves to their fans already, you know? anyway, people is such a special song. he’s got so much he still has yet to show & your respect for the artistry is incredible. 💜

This song summed up for me means it's okay not to be okay! Definition of my life since 1/17/2022, I lost my mother, my best friend, my confidant, and my strength.... I have not been okay since 😢. But I will eventually be able to pick myself back up and be stronger than I am now. It will happen as long as I remember that it's okay for me not to be there yet. Part 2 is just as good! We finally have a live performance of this just few days ago he released an interview with IU, the feat artist on People part2. They also sang their previous collaboration EIGHT - IU's song feat & prod SUGA. So we got Eight & People first ever performance. Also they performed People pt2. AND you are so right when you called out the lullaby feel. I haven't thought of it in that way, but I definitely call this my comfort song. It's like how I feel when I look at myself in the mirror and just tell myself it's okay to feel, it's okay to go through whatever it is, I'll be okay, I'm here for myself...it's that kind of feel for me. To not armour up and be afraid of getting hurt, it'll happen, but can I be a comfort to myself. And it feels fun to sort of make fun of myself with the "why so serious" part. It's both parts comfort and making fun in the way only a really good friend or loved on can. The interview he did with IU, that others have recommended is soooo good. We get to hear People 1 & 2 live and he talks about how listening to People also comforted and effected him years later when he could listen to it again.
