AGV K6 Review
This blog article is all about the new AGV K6 Full Face Helmet. It promises to be a versatile sports and touring helmet, so we have taken it apart and see what it’s got. The AGV K6 is a premium helmet that caters to pretty much any kind of rider out there. The sleek profile is and strong ventilation is sporty enough for pretty much anyone on the road but the inner liner will keep you comfortable after a full day of touring, making it a top contender amongst sport touring motorcycle helmets. So where does it fit in? Well coming in at 430 Euro or about 480 Euro at the RRP, it sits just above the K5 S and a good 300 Euro below the Corsa R.
Shoei NXR
The shoei NRX is a comfortable sporty full-face helmet and it is the successor of the XR1100 Model.
Thanks to the special earpads in the Lining, the NXR is much more quiet than its competitors. This helmet has a compact outer shell with a slim aerodynamic shape. The advantage of a smaller outer shell is that you feel less pressure on the neck with small sizes. This drives more comfortable and enables you to be more concentrated. As a result of the compact outer shell The NXR is also lighter than its competitors: AGV Corsa, HJC Rpha11 and Shark Race-r Pro. The aerodynamic shape enables the NXR to cut through the wind easily. Characteristic for the NXR is the E.Q.R.S. safety system. This E.Q.R.S. safety system makes it possible to quickly remove the inner lining if necessary. Of course the NXR comes prepared for a communication system. The NXR comes with everything that a helmet needs, where simplicity is of the highest refinement.

I'm confused. The NXR ventilation must be excellent to measure a full degree lower than outside temp. How on earth it's only given 3 star for that?

I'm a little confused : The temp comparison graph shows that inside temp on the K6 is lower in 1 degree then the environment temp but you're saying the opposite.. Run it again and pause on the graph

Thanks for letting us know! The bar graphs here are, unfortunately, backwards, the orange column should be helmet's interior temperature and the blue should be the outside. So, the correct results are that the Shoei does best for ventilation for being one degree cooler and the K6 is 1 star less since it was one degree hotter. Nonetheless, both are still excellent results. What did you think of how the two helmets compared?

Im ditching my nxr, gonna try out the K6. Primary reason is that the nxr dosnt fit my head as well as my old shoei raid II did. But i have to say i am not impressed by the visor mechanism on the nxr either, its a pain in the ass to get a good seal after replacing baseplates(i dropped the helmet 30cm.to the floor and it broke). Cant say yet, but the visor mechanism on the agv looks more modern and simpler to me.

Thanks for the comment! The visor mechanism on the K6 is similar to the one on the Pista GP RR both of which are simpler than Shoei's mechanism. The K6 is also several years newer than the NXR, which also shows through in its design.

hi, could make a top 5 ranking analyzing quietness and lightweight? I am very confused and could use some help. I would really like a helmet around 1300 grams in size large and very quiet. (I know carbon fiber shells usually are noisier)

Hey there and thanks for the suggestion! We've already got a video on this topic in the works, so it should be coming out soon. At this point, the AGV Sportmodular comes to mind as a helmet at around 1300 grams, it's quiet with about 100 decibels at 130 km/h, and it is in a similar category to the AGV K6. For a full face helmet that's a bit quieter, the Shoei GT Air 2 may be one helmet to look at, though it is coming at a heavier weight. Were you leaning towards the AGV K6 or the Shoei NXR at the moment?

@@Championhelmets Yes i was looking at the K6 and the american version of the NXR, th RF 1200, though the american version of the arai is heavier than the NXR and that´s were the K6 comes into play, direct competitor, lighter but the RF 1200 is known for being really quiet

The inner lining is poor quality and unpleasant to the skin. But helmet have good design and assembly quality. If you want buy nxr, choose the size up. I don't like it and sold.

Haven't you interpreted the ventilation results backwards ... ?!! Cooler inside by 2 (AGV) should trump the alternative, not the other way around as you've stated at 5:03 ... ?!! Either that, or the bar graphs are displayed incorrectly/backwards ... ?!!

Thanks for raising the issue! The bar graphs are backwards, the orange column should be helmet's inside temperature and the blue should be the outside. So, according to our latest rankings, this means the Shoei does best for ventilation for being one degree cooler and the K6 is 1 star less since it was one degree hotter. But both are still excellent results

Why are the prices on your website so cheap? For the k6 with a visor it's like $416 US on your website but the helmet alone in the US is $479.99 and another $119.99 for the visor.

Please tell which has more (vertical) field of view in sports position ? Also whitch visor has wider (horisontal) field of view? also intrested in GT Air2

In a tucked sport position, the NXR And the K6 will both do excellent since both helmets have been designed to accommodate a wide range of riding positions. However, while the NXR is slightly more geared towards sport-oriented riders, the AGV has put a particular focus into giving the K6 a large horizontal and vertical field of view. As far as the GT Air 2, the helmet does offer a great field of view, but it is mainly suited to more upright touring riding. Thanks for the question! What are your thoughts on the two helmets?

@@Championhelmets Nothing special for those two, allready found disadvantages, K6 - that weird crosshair ring in the middle of visor when it is open, like I'm playing Counter-strike, thats anoying, so many ventilating holes but they are too small. NXR too hight price point should be closer to RYD model, which has sun visor and 5 safety stars from SHARP. Maybe any information on when the Shoei going to update lineup of Quest -> RYD -> ?

@@InegoMinblan At the moment, we don't have any information from Shoei on when they plan to update their lines. Most likely, we'll have to wait a little longer since the ECE 22.06 standard is coming into effect, which will definitely have an impact on current helmet designs. Thanks for the reply! Thanks for the comment! We have measured both helmets in the same size (the NXR in a M and the K6 in a MS). We've reweighed them just now and have come up with the same result. Are you by any chance looking at the weight of the Shoei RF 1200?

For daily use, we'd suggest the AGV K6. The K6 is much quieter, which will mean that it will be more comfortable for riding on a daily basis. Though the Corsa R is also popular among daily riders, according to our road test it is much more noisy and its sport design means that there is less of a focus on commuting comforts.Thanks for the question! We make sure to always use the same bike to make sure our results are fair and comparable. By keeping the bike the same, we are also able to compare our data across categories while keeping our data transparent and clear. Since both the NXR and K6 are sport touring helmets, they are also designed to be used on a wide variety of bikes, including the one used in our test. Thanks for the comment! Hi Albert, the K6 is manufactured in China. Nonetheless, the helmet's quality standards are still to the high AGV standard and its performance spoke for itself on our road test. Thanks for the question! What are your thoughts on the AGV helmet?

were these weights done with same size helmets? Revzilla says the AGV is considerably lighter than the RF1200.

Thanks for the question! Yes, these helmets were weighed in the same size (and we've reweighed them for good measure). The NXR / RF1200 is a size M and the K6 is a MS and we got the same weights as before. The difference likely arises from Shoei making slightly different helmets for the US and Europe. There's a similar case with the X-Spirit 3 and the X14 where the X14 is much heavier though they are more or less the same helmet. What do you think of these two helmets?

Gt air 2 vs NXR/Z-7.. same price in Singapore, both have Ratchet straps. But GT air has 3 star rating while NXR 4 star . I’m using it for my day to day riding, for my Tours I use Arai Tourcross 3 / XD-4. Which do you recommend?

While the GT Air 2 does have 3 stars, it's a bit better suited to everyday, more general riding. Especially since it comes with an integrated sunvisor and is more of a touring style helmet that you could use when cruising. The NXR would probably make more sense with more sport riding at higher speeds.

Hi, want to buy a new helmet for my r6 but i am confused with all the options. I have a adventure bike and have a Schuberth E1 and it is very good in terms of sound isolation. I want a sport helmet with good isolation too and sportier. Should i pick a shoei nxr or a agv k6, or go to a shoei x spirit 3 or hjc rpha 11? Thanks

Hi José, the answer would mainly depend on how much time you plan on touring vs the amount of time you spend on the track. If you have an adventure bike, then the K6 would be the best in terms of being an all around helmet that also does well for noise isolation and bridges the gap between touring and sport. If you're looking for something more race focused, then the X-Spirit 3 would be best, though it will be less effective in blocking noise. Were there any other features you were looking at?

In that case, the X-Spirit 3 would be best. While it won't be as quiet as the K6, it has excellent aerodynamics and is a fairly quiet sports helmet

I own RF 1200 and have been eyeing K6 too. After this review I realized they're more or less the same helmet. Only difference is K6 is cheaper here in our country while the RF 1200 is ordered from abroad. Matt Black K6 with iridium lens looks dope though just like in action movies.

It is a good point that both helmets are bringing a similar level of sport-touring features with their light weight and did well out on the road. @@Championhelmets I haven't tried K6 yet still since I don't own one yet. It's one on my option for a new helmet. It's available here in our country but I'm just waiting for the matte black or nardo gray colors to be available here again. It seems that they are the most saleable among K6 designs.

Hi Sandor, the two will have a similar shell size, but it will mainly depend on what size helmet you wear. Both helmets have 4 shell sizes and the NXR is distributed from XS-S, M, L, and XL-XXL while the K6 distributes the shell sizes as XS-S, MS, ML-L, and XL-XXL. What's your opinion of these AGV and the Shoei?

Great reviews as always. But can you do the reviews on a sportsbike as well because the visor vertical visibility is usually a problem on sportsbikes when you are in a tuck.

Thanks for the suggestion, we'll look into it! For the moment, both helmets have been designed for sport-touring so they will have a good degree of vertical visibility. This is especially the case with the NXR, which is more sport than touring, which you can also see reflected in its noise isolation results. Which helmet are you thinking of going for?

How would the NXR held up against the HJC RPHA 70?

Compared to the RPHA 70 Carbon, the NXR will be lighter and stand a bit closer to the sport side of sport-touring. This means that though the NXR was louder than the RPAH 70 Carbon by 6dB, it still offered excellent ventilation since it was 1 degree cooler to the outside while the RPHA showed up as the same temperature. Besides this, both are comfortable helmets out on the road, both come with the Pinlock in the box, and the RPHA comes with the added benefit of an internal sun visor. Thanks for the question! The RPHA 70 is going to be the same as the RPHA 70 Carbon. The main difference is the helmets' outer shell material, we found the RPHA 70 Carbon ventilated better, and the RPHA 70 Carbon is built to integrate with the Smart HJC Bluetooth system. The answer would mainly depend on your riding preferences. While the K6 is very light weight and is built for a variety of bikes, the GT Air 2 is slightly more suited to touring and includes a convenient drop down sun visor. Besides this, it's also worth considering the communication system options of the two helmets. Though both are prepared for a specific system, the K6 is much more forgiving of other brands. As far as performance out on the road, the GT Air 2 has come in as one of the quietest helmets we've tested on the road at 97dB. @@Championhelmets Thanks for the reply. I ride a 650 ninja so sports bike with little in the way of windshield. Im hoping whichever I choose is easier on my neck then my current cheap helmet and in the direct wind on the highway. I only have been able to try the AGV helmets as none of my local stores stock Shoei for some reason. My plan with the K6 was to carry both visors as I only ever ride in the day currently Im thinking of running a tinted visor. Its such a hard decision as both helmets are very close in price. The shoei sounds like it has top comfort levels in your reviews and other users. K6 isnt as renowned but I know the quality is great from the K5 my fiance has and Ive seen in store. Generally the biggest rides I do are 3 hours. Leaning towards the K6 just as I know it better... Ill have to decide soon.

@@Gizoogle1 As far as weight concerns, we would have to lean towards the K6 since it is surprisingly light at about 150 grams lighter than the GT Air 2, and it still did fairly well for noise at 101 dB. Though this is still 4dB louder than the Shoei. It's also important to note that while the K6 is spot on as far as being intermediate oval, some riders have found the Shoei to sit slightly on the rounder side of the intermediate mark. @@matildegrilli7283 These two would be among the best options since they both are offered in 4 outer shell sizes and are lightweight. So, the NXR and the K6 would be an even better option than the RPHA 70 in terms of weight and overall size as well. Between the K6 and the NXR, the Shoei will be even smaller due to its slimmer design and lighter weight

I'm on the fence between these two helmets, the AGV K6 and the Shoei RF 1200. My problem is I've got conflicting reviews - you guys say the K6 is quieter than the RF 1200 but the Revzilla guys say the Shoe is quieter. I respect both the Champion Helmet and Revzilla teams. Why and how do you think these conflicting points have come about?

Thanks for the comment, that's a great question! There may be a few reasons why a difference in our reply may have come about. As for why, one thing is that we record the noise level for every helmet we test so we get a measured reading. We measure the noise with a calibrated decibel meter. We based our conclusion on the result we measured with the decibel meter. We used the same bike and tested both helmets in the same riding position and under comparable conditions. And we try to keep as many factors consistent as possible so we can bring an honest result. I don't know how they got their conclusion and if it is based on facts or more of an opinion? Does this answer your question?

@@benjaminsalmon9474 Get K6 which is far more superior to shoei. It has 5 layer/density EPS and has aeamid/carbon shell. K6 is the lightest and safest helmet for the money. Get a K6 and you won't need any other helmet.

Hi, unsure if this was measured as well but I had a few questions: 1) Would the AGV K6 fit well with glasses like the RF1200? 2) How is fitment overall? I heard you have to go one size up from the RF1200 to the K6, did the rider in this video wear the same size in both? Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the questions! Glasses should fit in both helmets, though it will depend on their size. For fitment, the best thing to do is to measure your head and check it against the size charts, especially since AGV split M into 2 sizes and it can vary from person to person. What do you think of how these two helmets compare?
