i'd like to thank my most beautiful and departed mother for exposing me to Ahmad Jamal when I was just 5 yrs old. Hearing Poinciana again after more than 50yrs brings back some many wonderful memories like peering out the window on a quiet sunday morning while getting a whiff of freshly cooked hotcakes emanating for the small kitchen right before a breakfast filled with glass bottled milk, lightly scrambled eggs, thick slices of bacon and almost always burned toast. My grandad was a classical organist and pianist we lived downstairs and in early 60s on black and white tv I discovered oscar peterson trio age about 7 this was fantastic and never looked back since armed with grandads music and what I found
I was 15 year old in 1958 and first heard the Ahmad Jamal Trio at the Pershing Lounge album and it was love at first note. It has been a lifelong love affair with him and jazz (favorite instruments being piano and guitar) He is playing in heaven now, but it's great listening to the wonderful sounds again.
Thank you for posting this. Brings back memories of my big brother and him listening to his jazz recordings. I was elementary school age and in love with music. Big brother died a year ago and left me with a love of jazz that will live on forever.
