Guys this thumbnail spoiled the living fuck out of this EP for me, I cant watch it yet due to Internet problems and as soon as I open RU-vid I see this. Come on guys.
27:47 What a beautiful monologue by MJTessler. The most insightful, candid, and eloquent post-watch analysis of this episode by any YT reactor thus far. 100% captivated by his spell. Please give this man a promotion, Greg. Chef's kiss.
I just know this was a dream come true for Hayden. He got to wear anakin's clone wars outfit, he got to have his moment with anakin's padawan. that man deserves nothing but happiness and I'm so ecstatic he was able to come back for obi-wan and ahsoka
This definitely was not a dream. Faloni will probably come out after the show ends (like the Russo Bro with infinity Wars) and clarify it for folks who missed the details shown in this episode.
Hayden Christensen definitely deserves some praise if not a lot for coming back and having such an impact on not only Obi-Wan but of course in Ahsoka I love the fact that he finally got to finish her training
Fun fact: Hayden Christensen has watched the entirety of Clone Wars. He said as much during the press tour for the Obi Wan series. So he knew how to bring to life the Anakin from the Clone Wars, and did so perfectly!
@@bluetone-amv No, she needed her teacher and friend's help, and the closure that came with it. She got to see Anakin, the REAL Anakin, one final time.
I think she feared that connection and emotion because of how Anakin ended up. He showed her that she’s not the sane as him. She still had restraint even as she almost embraced the dark side (I’m guessing it’s due to the fear stirred up when she saw Vader)
Anyone else notice Anakin’s voice pattern and vocabulary shift as he goes Vader mode? “Incorrect” and “You Lack Conviction!” Sounded so much like Vader! And his physical presence and motions too! Hayden is truly an amazing actor!
@@dalecabal80869 Very few got that subtlety. Earlier Anakin was fighting more like his younger, flashier self - flippy sword and all that jazz. On red lightsaber mode, he fights stiff and delivers deliberate, swinging blows. Basically Filoni made this Anakin the "entire" Anakin. The cumulative version of Anakin. And that makes this episode better for it.
Yes, it actually surprises me how few reactors caught/mention that small fine voice mixed detail of "You lack conviction". The mix was sooo good. Maybe everyone was caught up in awe of the the two Vader visual flashes right before he says that.
Anakin at this point is embodiment of Force. We really saw The Chosen One today. He is able to tap into both light and dark to teach Ahsoka to move on. His last look at her, he was so proud. Incredible episode.
I think he is slowly becoming the cosmic chosen one, taking on the role of the father. Kind of a promotion to semi godhood but maybe he hasn't figured out all the kinks yet.
My first take away too. He had to embrace the dark and the light to truly understand balance through redemption by his children, so he could pass on that greater knowledge to the true shepherds of the reformed Jedi order. He's there to nourish the seeds that will become the future.
Ahsoka finally coming to terms with the fact that it wasn’t her fault what happened to Anakin was such a beautiful moment. We finally get such a big picture moment on why she has been so stoic and expressionless during her appearances. She tried to take on Sabine as a padawan before she could truly reconcile with herself. Attachment destroyed Anakin and destroyed her relationship with Sabine. It’s why she was so against training Grogu. Just as Obiwan came to realize in Kenobi that attachment can give one strength, she is coming to realize that attachment can be a strength for her as well
I’ve always hated the Jedi’s philosophy of detachment, it’s ridiculously stupid and actively drives people towards the Dark Side in the worst way. Not to say the Dark Side is INHERENTLY evil, but I think we all know what the sith typically lean towards
During the clone wars series, there was a clear line separating Matt Lanter and Hayden. Filoni and crew have given Hayden so much to rework his take, the line between the two is completely gone. Hayden has merged the two into his own and it's freaking glorious. I used to say I don't want any more legacy characters... But damn I want a series for Hayden.
@@ryanstoner2736the Vader canon comics would be perfect as a show imo and you’ll see a good amount of anakin and see full potential Vader so it’d be amazing imo
Ashoka felt different towards the end. She was way more positive, confident and happier than ever. She was clearly more at peace and it was wonderful to witness. What a beautiful episode. Cannot get over how much I enjoyed this. All hail Dave Filoni and Lucasfilm 🙏🏻
Because she finally found peace within herself. We saw young Ahsoka in animation, but actually seeing what a real child Ahsoka looks like is jarring. It brings home the fact at just 14 she witnessed death & destruction all around her. She had no time to cope or come to reason. But this is what finally brought her peace. She was basically reborn again
RD’s acting is also amazing. Her entire demeanor changed after her encounter with Anakin. The muscles in her face, the twinkle in her eye.. she had a born-again moment with the force. Even the water imagery was like a baptism. 💯🔥❤️
Yea it seemed like up to this point she was just waiting to die and gave up on living a peaceful/purposeful life due to her legacy as Anakin’s apprentice. Anakin taught her that no matter what has happened before, she can choose to live now and give the best of herself.
Can we talk about how beautifully aggressive Anakin fighting was?? His hits were as HARD and quick as they're meant to be, fucking loved the choreography of the fights
Not only that, this is prime Anakin, he can control his emotions. He can slip into the dark side and come out of it just as easily now. So instead of revenge of the sith Anakin which was his form 5 but fuelled with rage and aggression. We’ve now got the master of form 5, editions are under control, every single blow is precise and he controls the entire fight. (I know he wasn’t trying to kill Ashoka)
anakin's officially the chosen one, able to wield the light and dark at will, the new father, the keeper of the world between worlds. fucking beautiful
Yes yes yes! Everyone wanted/wants him to be perfect or all Light, but the word was always “balance.” He is both on purpose and we finally see that in canon. The Jedi are too pious, the Sith are too extreme. Ahsoka is far more Anakin than she wants to admit, because she was afraid of the Dark, but she’s both because he taught her to be. Wow wow wow!!!!!
Is he really the father? I was a bit dissapointed that we couldnt really see what he really was, but I see more and more people saying this was his reveal as the new father. Can u explain maybe? Him as the father is all I want! I hope we see more of him if its true.
when Huyang says "they never listen" you can tell he's not just talking about Ahsoka and Sabine, he refers to all the Jedi that he has trained, and how they are all a stubborn bunch who ended up always meeting their doom. Its like he is tired of constantly losing his pupils.
Honestly, the main standout of the show for me is Kevin Kiner's score. He doesn't try to copy from John Willams' score or any other iconic theme from the past, he keeps creating his own thing while throwing some iconic themes briefly in there, and it just makes the show feel sooo cinematic. I'm honestly surprised by how little he's done outside of Star Wars cuz he's great.
@@Stop_Resisting101I would be quite shocked if he doesn't score Dave's movie. But I definitely think Kiner should be Williams' definitive successor going forward as he and his children have been able to recapture that Star Wars magic that no other composer has and have been doing it for almost 20 years now
I want more of his scores put onto vinyl. I buy all the Star Wars movie soundtracks, and I have a couple that they put out for the animated shows. They had a compilation release for the Clone Wars that covered tracks from seasons 1-6, and then there was a 7" single for Rebels that was just the Rebels theme & a remix. Would love to get more complete scores of his Star Wars work on wax, it's so good. ✌️😌
Those two moments of Anakin walking away from Ahsoka during the Clone Wars flashback and him walking towards her and both times he shifted between being Anakin and Vader sent chills all over my body
@@TheMimiSardand that Vader is just a Dark Anakin..Its meant to show that everyone has a shadow of themselves but its up to us to decide or choose to let that shadow consume us or or to let it go thats Anakin's lesson to both Ahsoka and us..Vader is Anakin's shadow
Hayden did such an amazing job blending his own performance with Matt Lantern’s version of the character. It’s such a a seamless transition from prequals to clone wars
I absolutely love Anakin and Ashoka’s relationship in the Clones Wars. Never did I think I would see Clones Wars in live action. Anakin is everything in this episode, he looked perfect. I was dying the entire time!!! Hats off for Dave Filoni for making this happen! *chefs kiss*
Hayden’s performance was really good, his face acting alone was top notch. I love how clearly the experience has brought hope back to Ahsoka and how’s that even showed with the lighting been brighter when she wakes up and her clothing Dave Filoni really is a great Star Wars director and I loved seeing Hayden in the clone wars outfit
@@luigiwiiUUthe hate and desperation he shows through only his face throughout the final act of RotS has always been so powerful to me. Hayden is such a fantastic "physical" actor. Not only his face performance, but his body performance too is top notch. Always loved how good he is at his own lightsaber stunts
You can definitely see the impact that this episode had on Ahsoka, the change in emotion that happened as she goes from “gray” to “white” during this episode. Goes to show that Filoni was the one to trust with a story like this.
She felt her legacy was death and war, and like Anakin says, she is more than that because he is more than turning and becoming Vader. He's not all evil, and he lived it.
I think Hayden being a dad and having a daughter in real life helped a lot with his chemistry with the young Ahsoka actress, even though she’s much older than his own daughter. And the flashback planet was Ryloth, cause geonosis was before clone wars, Ahsoka wasn’t there, only the 2nd time around which is after this.
It’s CRAZY how well of an actor Ariana is that she somehow managed to act like a young old ahsoka. Not to mention this is the second time we’ve seen her play the young version of a beloved alien woman with a red background
That first "flashback" was in fact the battle of Ryloth, right after Ahsoka lost most of her squad trying to break the blockade above the planet. Her first mission alone as squad leader failed because of her arrogance and recklessness. It's the first time she actually felt the consequences of her actions and the lost of the lives under her command.
It was the true beginning of her characters growth. And then to end it with the Siege of mandalor, the end of her clone wars growth ark. Masterfully done
Anakin understood why Ahsoka walked away from the order. It is fitting that he was responsible for guiding her back to her destiny and to heal the division in the loop
Those scenes with Anakin were absolutely PERFECT! When he ignited that red lightsaber I literally said “oh shit.” Some of those lightsaber hits just reminded you have how powerful he was. Those flashes between him and Vader gave me chills. With that armor he looked EXACTLY like Clone Wars Anakin. Hayden was on a whole other level of epicness and I loved every single second of it. Something else that I want to make sure is highlighted is the music. It was perfect and fit those scenes very, very well. I love how Ashoka seemed more hopeful when she woke up. Like she FELT like the Ashoka that we have always known. That scene with the Purrgil was glorious. The ending of this episode felt like the end of Empire Strikes Back. “Don’t worry, we’ll find them.” I can see why they showed this in theaters. Some of those shots were so cinematically epic. For real, Dave Filoni needs to be in charge of everything Star Wars. This was probably some of my favorite Star Wars ever!
One thing I have to wonder about is when Huyang says, “They never listen.” This droid has trained nearly all the Jedi in history, so was he saying this about Ahsoka and Sabine or about the countless Jedi over the years
one of my favorite tropes in media is when characters have their epiphany/life-changing moments, their clothing also reflects that specific change in their mannerisms and demeanor.
Ahsoka the White! Space whales (made me tear up)! Closure with Anakin! Jacen! The Clone Wars! The score! Sound design! Cinematography! What a moving episode in more ways than one. Whew!
The purrgil scene at the end made me really emotional. It gave me that feeling of wonder I had when I watched the original series for the first time as a kid in the early 90's on LaserDisc. If I was a kid seeing space whales go into hyperspace, I would have lost my damn mind. Dave Filoni is really damn good at creating storytelling that gets to the core of why people fell in love with the Star Wars franchise in the first place.
That ending to this episode....the sense of wonder, of adventure, of endless capabilities....of pure, storytelling magic that makes you believe in a galaxy far, far away. That's Star Wars, and it is alive and well. Notice also, after Anakin teaches her the lesson she needs, to be able to move forward, Ashoka is draped in all white. A transformation has happened, and she even felt like Ashoka, the old Ashoka we know and love. And my God, what a performance by Hayden...Clearly he has major acting chops, and gave one hell of a performance. Makes you wonder how much of his prequel performance was due to writing and directing. All in all, jesus christ this was pure Star Wars magic. Can't wait to see where this takes us. The force is alive and well, my friends. Always.
If you seen HC’s work, you can see he has the acting chops. (Shattered Glass & Life as a House are 🔥). The acting in this show is first class but this series PROVES that *writing* is key to the success
@@jandm4ever716 tbf, as bad as I feel for Hayden in the prequels, I feel worse for Jake Lloyd. That kid didn't deserve to be thrown to the wolves the way he was.
Seeing Anakin really was intimidating and awesome. This show is insanely good. It made me want to see more of Hayden as Anakin, the fact that a Luke show isn't likely breaks my heart cause that would be perfect Luke and Anakin talking through the force
Something that will definitely go un-talked about a lot more than most other topics is the way this episode was film. FIloni's direction here is superb! The Clone Wars flashbacks were masterfully helmed! He's coming into his own as a live action director and you love to see it!
Man, this episode just gave me so many types of emotions. From just pure hype seeing Ahsoka battle Anakin again to gaining tears of joy just seeing Anakin acknowledging Ahsoka's growth and convction. The purgill's space jumps was just the icing on the cake!
Whoever is writing, producing, and overall putting this show and these episodes together.. LET THEM TAKE OVER STAR WARS FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE! This show has been awesome, and I want more of this!
What made me so emotional is that Anakin uses the very pain and suffering he lived through to teach Ahsoka that they are BOTH more than their legacy and their guilt. It’s amazing so see his control over his past. He now exists as the chosen one, keeper of the world between worlds and maintains the balance of the force from there. To see Hayden perform that was so, so special.
But more importantly which Dave understands that JJ Abrams didn't and we only got to see glimpses of it with Ryan Johnson is that he only does fan service when it forwards the plot and the characters and never just because he wants a reaction from the audience. It's what makes his stories and fan service feel completely genuine. It's earned instead of displayed.
Seeing Anakin in these scenes actually made me cry. I had to pause halfway through to compose myself, Anakin has always been my favourite since i saw revenge of the sith in the cinema for the first time as a child. How sad that i cried haha
The stark contrast in quality when Filoni directs vs. the others is astonishing. This was the first episode that gripped me emotionally and made me excited for what's to come. This was really well done!
Other thing i wanna mention, I was also a bit worried about them possibly going all in for the fan service and nostalgia bait (just like in that *OTHER* show), but I like how from the flashbacks they only focused on things that actually matter for Ahsoka's character arc. They didn't get completely out of the plot like in that Boba Fett show. Instead, the story kept it's focus and you can tell how this is made by one man's vision and nothing else. 3 episodes left, and let's hope they stick to the landing for this one haha
To see Clone Wars Hayden and him interact with Ahsoka was just - ❤ I also love how Ahsoka looks a lot more happy(?) or maybe at peace(?) after the interaction in the World between Worlds
I'm honestly impressed with how they did the de aging with Hayden with him taking and acting while being de aged considering the look at the last episode I felt iffy about and felt like him acting with the de age effects would make him look like he got stung by a bee that absolutely squished his face in but in this episode it looks good I would say although those moments where slight improvements could've been used for like a split second
I think they also varied how much de-aging depending on which scene - I think there was definitely less in the final duel scene, maybe because more of Hayden's age helps push the Fallen look.
At the same time, for the more casual fans who might not have seen either, this does a good job filling in some of those gaps. Obviously not a gap as large as both series, but enough to get an idea of what Anakin being a mentor would look like.
I didn’t watch clone wars or rebels. What was the main take away from the lesson Anakin was trying to teach Ashoka? The message fight or die was very simplistic.
@@HenryBenedictUSAI’ve not watched any of the animated shows either. Anakin’s lesson is about darkness and light. Ahsoka came to the realisation that in a lot of ways he was mentoring her to become a potential Sith by focusing so much on the ways of war, and her own fear that she will mirror the path he took. However as with all things there’s always a choice and knowing what it is you want to become, Ashoka had forgotten how to live due to the weight/burden she carried that she would be corrupted as a mentor too. It was that very weight that was becoming a self fulfilling prophecy. So she awoke embracing the light and learning how to truly live again.
I cried tears of joy watching anakin and ahsoka going at it and him continuing her training. This has been years in the making and I salute Dave Filoni for what he has done.
I think is a combination of a force ghost and a force vision to teach Ahsoka the final lesson she needed from Anakin. It's not our traditional force ghost, I would really like Anakin appearing later in this form, like in episode 6. This was an amazing form to show us that we just know the tip of the force, it can manifest in different ways, Dave you clever master.
It’s Everything I ever dreamed of, I can’t tell how many times I screamed and got goosebumps, That Vader Shot was absolutely fucking perfect along with the red eyes he had when he turned around and for a glimpse there you could see a little flicker of Red in Ahsoka’s eyes
Absolutely 1 of my favorite episodes in all of Star Wars. Just to mention, the young actress, Ariana Greenblatt is now a MCU & Star Wars alumni. A young Ahsoka and a young Gamora in The Avengers Infinity War.
"It was magic. What do you want to talk about?" Lol. You guys are the best. I love watching the show and then the reactions. For this episode the best part about this episode was Anakin showing up for Snips at a moment when she most needed him. He cares, he wants to unburden her, he wants her to live! Whew chills, that was the best episode.
The absolute GOOSE BUMPS I got when Anakin brought out Vader’s lightsaber and seeing Vader flash into frame was CHEFS KISS! Beautiful episode. Everything I wanted!
The world between worlds is an encompassing of the force, so even though it’s in Ahsoka’s head, she is still actually there too. That means Anakin is also there and not just a figment or something. Crazy stuff
Ahsoka made the choice that Luke made at the end of ROTJ. She choose to protect life instead of bring death. She, like Luke, needed to face Vader once more and having done so successfully, she finaly truly became a Jedi, just as Luke did.
Ashoka talking to the whale is more of a throwback to Tales of the Jedi ep1 more than to Esra talking to them. The episode is about her as little child and communicates with a sabertooth tiger beast that was going to kill her. So she was always able to communicate with animals.
This episode was awesome. Hayden really nailed ALL versions of Anakin in ONE episode. He truly owns this character im in awe of his performance and he really made me feel like this role is in good hands if i didnt feel that already
This was just perfection ❤ Script=perfection Directing=perfection Performances=perfection Music=perfection …. Just blown away ❤ And this is from someone who’s not familiar with the animated series much! I feel hundred percent engaged and included ❤ Thank you, Filoni
"it's amazing how good of a performance he can give....when he has a good script, and someone who can direct actors". Truer words have never been said.
I'm so glad I was patient. This is exactly the way I'd thought this show would go. I'm glad we got to see Ahsoka grow Also cemented Rosario as Ahsoka. This episode proves why she's perfect for this role.
16:04 Anakin's initial reaction to Ahsoka's act of mercy and words of hope. This episode was fantastic, I really have no words to describe the feelings it evoked.
I can tell they studied Ashoka and Anakins Clone wars personalities heavy because they replicated it so perfectly in these flashbacks it is beautiful to watch
I've already seen a lot of people talk about the flashbacks being "pointless," or them saying they don't understand what's being conveyed, and I'm just like... What's not to get? Ahsoka has always questioned what her role in not just the galaxy, but the force at large was. Ever since leaving the order, and ESPECIALLY after finding out who Vader was, she's been forced to wonder if any of her values come from the right place. This episode was Anakin forcing her to confront her past, move on from it, and embrace whatever may come in the future. It wasn't just a nostalgia trip for Clone Wars fans, and people boiling it down to that are being incredibly disingenuous. This whole show for me has pretty much been a 10/10, yet this episode exceeded my expectations in every possible way. I cried, I laughed, I giggled like a 4 year old. I felt the magic of Star Wars for the first time in too long.
What you say is spot on: Anakin's final training for Ahsoka isnt just a training but more of Ahsoka's confirmation whether she is truly ready to spread her wings and fly (live) or not (fall and she'll die) like a young bird.
I love imagining the sit-down conversation Hayden had with Dave before filming like he does with his actors. It would be so cool to hear them diving into Anakin's mind as Ahsoka sees him.
The subtle eye color change when Ahsoka holds Anakins' red sword in the last scene between them is amazing. It shows what she could have become but didn't.
He needed her to see that, which is why he allowed her to disarm him and hold it up to his throat. He showed her that she was not destined to fall to the dark side and that she didn't have to be afraid of his past anymore.
I didn’t watch rebels or clone wars & the flashback/training segment still gave me massive chills.. goosebumps anytime they were both on screen together! I need more of that!
That's where her stoic performances in the early episodes carry a lot more weight in this episode. Patience is a most definitely a virtue in her story!
It has been absolutely wonderful seeing Hayden get his flowers at last. You guys are 100%. He was never the problem in the prequels. It was always the script and George's direction that led to the awkward line reads. The way he is able to show complex emotions so clearly with just a look has always shown immense acting talent, even back in the prequels.
I loved this episode, it's totally everything I thought It would be and more. Hayden killed it as Anakin 💯 percent, I just love him. Seeing young Ahsoka is absolutely wonderful. This episode is definitely a 10. Awesome, Job Dave. Thank you so very much. ❤️❤️❤️
