Larry Shelton says that a manager at an Ahwatukee AMC theater accused him of entering a movie without buying a ticket. Shelton says that he was racially profiled and he is suing the theater chain for discrimination.
Especially when the drink cost more then the damn ticket. If they had a brain they would know we pay for ticket and sneak the food in. I've snuck in my momma's fried chicken and turnip greens for Revenge of the Sith
I have snuck in the movie theatre grab the bag of popcorn, from the trash can and went to The men's restroom and wash the cup out and went backup and got a refill for both, the popcorn and the drink, done it many times. And watch many movies...
Playing innocent once the camera starts rolling, this jackass never showed his ticket flexing on theater workers by not showing ticket when he walked in. Listen to the officer. Just a low life wasting police resources
And they didn't even want to refund his money? Never going to AMC ever again . This manager should be fired . No apology and no refund shows he does not need to be a.mamagsr
Because he broke their code of conduct of having a flashlight turned on in the theater? Watch the original video. If someone breaks any code of conduct and is acting like they’re being a victim or being disrespectful. There is no way I’m giving them a refund.
@@djsponge10 why did you put a question mark at the end of a statement? Its a good thing you dont own a buisiness because you clearly would abuse your power
While true hopefully it doesn't happen, ppl will lose jobs and not many theaters will be left. Streaming doesn't bring as much money back, less ppl are involved, quality and sound aren't as good. If you date, it won't count as a date of you watch at home lol not the greatest date scene but can be a different way of going out

AMC could've descalated this by offering an on-site apology refund and a free ticket. Now they have to deal with bad publicity which is worse than getting sued. This was horrible customer service!
@@shadowx2652 Americans are lazy and were offered movies at home they aren’t going to want to revert back and the ones that went to stream made more then they did in theaters. During the nations downward slide. So imagine what they will make when it’s moving up.
But I think the black guy could have descalated it by just showing the damn ticket and then no cops would have been called and he would have enjoyed his movie simple as that
They sell tickets online and then declare their associates didn't sell him a ticket. He bought a drink and popcorn but entered through an exit. Police got over involved here. They even said it was a civil matter. When the manager realized he screw up he doubled down and had the guy removed from the theater without a refund instead of apologizing and giving him a bunch of free movies.
The manager's ego got in the way of his ability to do his job. Should have just had security check their footage to make sure that he had a ticket and they could have avoided the entire situation.
@@MyRealityIsProof when you suggest logical things like that, people start to get enraged and then resort to nonsensical babble like "I told him to check the cameras". Instead of realizing what the ticket is for, to be produced when requested to do so, the gentleman kept it hidden because of ego and poor attitude.
The manager could've resolved this really easily by offering a refund, an apology and some kind of compensation for his wrong doing. Instead he probably lost his position or even got fired and might be facing scrutiny all for doubling down on his stupidity.
All they had to do was check the cameras, if the establishment believes a man is being suspicious it’s up to security to solve the matter (I.e. checking the cameras), if it turns out a crime has been committed (I.e. if the cameras HAD shown he did NOT purchase a ticket) THEN you call the police, a commercial establishment should NEVER call the police over an accusation, because that’s how you end up like this manager, embarrassed, wrong, and end up with a mad lawsuit,
@@mph2336 my point? that he did this whole thing to try and sue AMC. What's your point mentioning he still didn't get any $? If people knew they wouldn't win a lawsuit then there'd be alot less lawsuits going on lol.
I’ve been to so many movies. Anytime I go to the bathroom I just have my ticket out. The person at the entrance checks it and I go about my day. Pretty simple. Glad to see you saw an opportunity to sue someone for something you created. They always check tickets when ppl go in and out like that. Always
@@shadowx2652 you should’ve shown your ticket at the start. Only someone so stupid would start something like this when all they had to do was show their ticket at the start
So true. Especially since you’d have to teleport or turned invincible to sneak in without being seen. Also freezing time. It’s what he said in this one site
I was thinking the death penalty. This dude obviously is seeking attention. He fears that his community will see him as the black guy snuck into a movie theater? For one no one cares and unless you act crazy you wouldn't get arrested for something like that. Also he's the one that recorded it and posted it. No one would have known about it unless he posted it. Just show your ticket. We've all been asked to show our ticket and if we don't security is called. This isn't uncommon. He bought the ticket online so the manager was correct when he said no one sold him one on his staff. This is petty.
Something similar happened to us. I took my nephews to an early showing of StarTrek. I couldn’t see the movie with them due to other business I had to take care of, so I took them them to the theater, paid for the tickets and I left. I received a call 40 min later saying they were kicked out. I went back and upon talking with them the manager and security said they had an issue with theater hoppers and his employees told him they saw my nephews in a previous movie showing earlier, which is impossible because I had just dropped them off 40 min ago. The manager accused me of lying and told me to leave. I refused to leave until they gave me a refund and his supervisors name, but they refused as well. They called the police and police said, they couldn’t force them to give me refund but suggested they simply look at the security cameras to settle this dispute. They refused to check the cameras and I later sued the theater. I found out later from my attorney that not only did the security footage prove we were telling the truth, but the employees said they never told their manager that my nephews were theater hopping, and the video footage showed my nephews were the only black people in the theater that day and the manager had other issues of discrimination before.
@@gnhun101 yea. No one ever lies, what was i thinking. Thank you for setting me straight. All these years on this planet and searching the web, I didnt realize it was all real. Everyone is so truthful. Thank you for opening my eyes.
@@gnhun101 please even Chappelle called out Smollett on his BS lie of a story ... some times things happens sometimes people make it up for attention... nothing wrong with Question and story and asking for proof ... only a fool Believes everything they hear as truth without least questioning something .
The guy was spending money in the theater either way. They interrupted that showing for everyone there for nonsense. Getting the police involve over sneaking into a movie is dumb to begin with but the guy didn't even do it.
Also, theaters make hardly any money off of ticket sales it’s the concessions, so if you bought concessions and not a ticket, AMC is still coming out on top.
So let me get this straight amc lost very big when one person doesnt pay for a movie even tho he did and the embarrassing staff and police officers on site smh..
@@MrChickensnatcher thank you that was interesting👌 However in the manager words he was seen coming into the exit door which was a lie. So he was falsely detained which he should be compensated monetarily for that🤑
@@shadowx2652 but you cannot make false claims. This isn't Nazi Germany🙏 this is the USA where you shouldn't always have to be harassed and ask where you're going and where you're coming from. Some people are privileged not to have this happen to them more than a few times to understand where people are coming from nowadays. 🙏🙏👍
It was most definitely racial discrimination. Not only did AMC assault the dignity of Mr. Sheldon, they further demonstrated their contempt for him by falsely accusing him of sneaking in through an exit door, refusing to check their cctv, by calling the police and by refusing to refund his money. False accusation, the use of police to intimidate and punitive action by an AMC manager.
If you ever work Loss Prevention or handle situations like this for a big company, they always teach you to be 110% sure and have evidence. Or else everything from misconceptions to racial bias can come into play, and you end up embarrassing the entire company over a dumb mistake.
If I ever move out to Arizona, I am definitely looking this guy up for a house! Everyone should support him and let big corporations we will not stand for blatant discrimination.
I worked at an AMC as a supervisor.... Even if someone did sneak in we let it slide unless they were disruptive or in someone else's assigned seat. Our policy was The company makes enough and the movies playing anyway the disruption to movie goers who paid wasn't worth kicking out someone else even if they had snuck in.
@@floppproductions7967 well said. And she just told you? Im a bit confused because it was said that he wasn't fired he just got bias training. Could it be that he just left? When did this happen?
So much for innocent until proven guilty...I’ve worked in retail & I would NEVER approach ANYONE suspected of stealing WITHOUT checking the cameras first. I don’t care if it was an employee or a customer that reported it. Ppl need to learn not to hurl accusations around so freely. 🤨
Manager has a lot nerve discriminating looking like grunge pot head himself? Hope he won that lawsuit probably would have been prevented if the manager apologized and gave him free movie passes. Can't believe he called the cops over thinking he snuck in the movie🙄
They could have at least refunded them if they were going to refuse him service and pull the "this is private property" line. Sure, you can refuse people service/business at any time, but you're not supposed to take their money, then kick them out even though they paid over false allegations.
If I worked at a movie theater and actually did see someone sneak in, I wouldn’t have even said anything. It’s not like that one person sneaking in is gonna put AMC out of business. But the fact that the manages and the supposed employees who snitched lied about it is just disgusting, now they gotta deal with a 100k lawsuit plus ruined reputation. I hope everyone was held accountable
Discrimination was normal when I grew up so until now we are doing something about it I wish my mom was here to see ppl standing up and not letting it take over their lives and be afraid of everything and everyone ✨👑💔🙏, she was a victim of a lot of abuse from racist & all I did was fear any confrontation, now I can relax & be myself around positive energies.
How is what they describe as "unauthorized entry" a safety concern when anybody can buy a ticket and get in without a background check? How does not paying for a ticket become "unsafe"? 🤨🤔 AMC theatres does not provide any kind of safety or security service for its customers, no guards, no bag checks and no metal detectors. Hell a gun man killed a customer in their theatre before and absolutely nothing about security or safety has changed since. Why are they lying pretending this employees behavior was in support of safety? Secondly, explain how you would sneak in through the exit doors when they are locked from the inside and have no handles to pull on even if they were unlocked? They probably put the bathroom near the exit doors and this man came out of the bathroom as staff came around the corner and because of the way he looked they decided he probably just came from the exit. Well they should have let it be. They went through all that trouble disputing a $10 ticket without supportive evidence and now look. Whats 1 man getting away with sitting in on a free movie going to hurt anyway. Pick your battles. Now the entire AMC movie theatre will be subjected to really bad PR.
I could see this lawsuit coming when I saw Larry’s original video. Predictable. However, they should have refunded him if they asked him to leave. Maybe gave him free tub of popcorn too.
It's so sad that you can't even go into a movie theater without being accused of somebody saying oh you snuck into the movie like how are you going to sneak in a whole entire group of people like it see if he was with his family and then say oh you sneaked in I mean I condone the video he's by himself but it's like at the same time like you know it doesn't matter like why would you accuse someone without going over anyting and all you do is bring in the cops at the same thing goes for the cops those cops should be fired for just being there and seeing oh you need to leave you don't you can't be here because you know even though you showed us proof that you pay for your taking you got to leave because apparently you're the aggressor and they're not which is bull crap now this is just sad I'm glad he's going to sue them
He even asked the mgr are you sure 100% your sure 100% correct? Got him guilty 100% of false accusation and slandering his name and its pretty obvious racial profiling when he didnt get a refund because he turned his light on his camera but the police had lights on in the movie theater......
LETS talk about how the cops talked out of "both sides of their MOUTH"! WHEN THEY believed that he sneaked in" they were all for taking him to jail, but once he showed his receipt, they then tried to distance themselves and say" HEY, its a civil matter between you and them"!! WHAT??
When did they say anything about taking him to jail ...never heard that and many times cops are called they show up and yes it's a civil matter and they can't do things.. that happens a lot .
I used to be a Movie Theater Manager and this is totally unacceptable! I would never boot someone that paid, has a ticker stub, and I mistakenly thought came in the exit. That manager should be fired...well he will be now with a lawsuit caused by him.
Nick Paulino How would YOU know that ? You know just as much as the rest of us do . Nothing . There is no such thing that says that online regarding this case . I don’t believe it’s even been settled yet . Smh stop passing on false information.
Just saying the movies in 3D, you usually get your glasses from the EMPLOYEES once they see your ticket or stamp it. (This may not be at every AMC but the ones in my area do this!!)
He probably refused out of anger until the Police Officers showed up. That is why you’re provided with tickets stubs. Show the damn stubs, and file a complaint afterwards.
Train your Managers to check the tapes instead of making a decision that will make you lose customers and create a negative impact on your community, if not for the community most of these places would be shut down
mike fuston “ sue the cops “ lol you’re not that smart are you ? It’s a civil case ! Just as they said . They are there to do whatever the theater wants them to do at that moment . That is it .
@r_ elentless01 cheating is illegal moron. And he made a false report. He easily took sides and should be sued. Should've told him to call corporate. At least when this mcdonalds customer was refused service and a refund a cop helped him. They would've been more professional if they told you have to leave and to call corporate after waiting for a decision.
A youtuber thinks so as well. Andn idol agree. Bc 1. The cop was quick to take sides even though he didn't say leave yet. He was trying tocsound smart. 2. He should've thought the manager might've made a false report bc the things he said didn't make sense. 3. I saw this one video where McDonalds refused to give a guy his meal or a refund. So he asked this cop outside for help and he did. Bc of him he got his meal.
steve71 he actually does have a case they accused him that he snuck in the movie theater without a ticket and he had a ticket that was valid and he went to the bathroom
Brandi Banziger he showed it when they escorted him out they tried to say he came in from the back and he didn’t. He went to the bathroom. He even said check the video tape and they didn’t. That’s the first thing they should had done from the get go! He said check the tape and manager refused to do that! That’s simple!!! Checking videotape on situations makes a difference and it changes everything!
Truly a crime was committed against this patron. However, same same for me, a huwite male, and do I have a chance of winning a discrimination case? I'll give you three guesses. In the last 20 years I've been elbowed out of three jobs because owners knew the EEOC employee who complained about me could win a discrimination case, but I couldn't, so they fired me (or handed so much crap to me that I was forced to quit, didn't want to quit).
This happened to me. I showed them the ticket. I worked at a theatre as a teen and I can assure you they don’t have enough staff to check footage on everyone. That’s *why they give you a ticket*
Ahh…I know what happened. I used to work in a movie theater years ago. When our theater started offering tickets online it caused all kinds of problems. We had guests just walking in without showing us their ticket. Sometimes they would walk in through the exit. Their thinking was they already paid, so they don’t have to show anything. Arguments would break out all the time. Technically you’re supposed to show your ticket to the front desk when you enter. People also try to sneak into theaters all the time. Part of our job was keeping an eye out for folks trying to get in free. I don’t think dude was trying to go viral. I’m sure he was genuinely embarrassed , but he should have just showed the ticket when the manager asked for it. It sounds like he took it the wrong way when the manager asked if he had a ticket. That’s his job. If his coworkers said the man walked in through the exit, he has to investigate. Telling the manager to check the cameras and then walking away isn’t the right way to handle it. It’s better than spitting on someone. That happened to me one time.
I'm glad you stood up for your right you didn't have to show him nothing did you make everybody else in that movie theater show you a ticket then to say that he didn't buy ticket he came in the exit door that man is correct he could lose his job people cannot think he's credible stick up for your rights I stand behind you
You should've been a good "boy" and did what you where told. Look at the parking lots now, dark and empty. I bet right about now AMC wouldn't care who snuck in as long as someone was in the theaters again. And who the hell sneaks into a movie then buys popcorn and drinks, knowing damn well it cost more then the ticket?????????
Ironically, in the full video, the cops also tell the man it’s a civil issue between him and the AMC employees in all facets. So why were they there?!?!
It's an unfortunately common occurrence. It's one thing to need cops for criminal trespass (told to leave, refuse, get arrested and spend the night in jail with a fine and court date) and it's another for the cops to be called and THEN find out "hey, no criminal act has occurred and we can't do anything here. But if they say they want you to leave, unfortunately you'll have to leave and take it up with the civil court later."
Does the phrase.. Innocent until "proven" guilty... Mean anything to you .... If you're going to disrupt someone's experience and accuse them of wrongdoing on second hand knowledge.. you better be able to show proof... The manager should've done his due diligence and checked the camera ... None of this would've have taken place. He didn't do his job... Not up to the accused to provide corroboration to prove their integrity is intact.. Being an American means something... That's "Why" the world at large is trying get here....
everyone saying that they should have checked the camera's, Not sure about you guys but when I go see a movie and I have to go to the bathroom I always make sure I have my ticket on hand in case someone asks to see it before I go back to the movie. This guy automatically assumed racial profiling and refused to show the ticket... Had he simply shown his ticket to the manager, something he has to verify as part of his job, the manager would have probably apologized and went on his way. But by refusing to show the ticked he literally walked into the manager calling the cops and escorting him out. Literally anyone would have been treated the same and this guy is gonna loose his lawsuit.
