I doubt he's really panicking. I honestly don't think he cares too much whether it works or malfunctions because he's only paid to advertise the product, not design it. He will at most be embarrassed.

To be fair many of these "AI" enhanced products didnt really gain much value with it.. Just bullshit marketing. But the tech is still very useful in specific applications, such as Voice assistants.. but maybe not for photo editing like shown here.. And there is more to "AI" than just Generative "AI", many industries already use "AI" ,just not as visually stunning and usable for End-Users.

A question of time, really. This is like looking at the people who crashed the first attempts at planes and say human will never fly. AI is a bubble and progress slowed down but it's absolutely going to change the world soon enough.
the other day i googled whether anyone has been sued for putting a real life car in a video game and gemini told me about three different cases where it happened and the car manufacturer won. i googled them all and none of them ever happened. it left out the one time it actually did happen (cod humvee), where the game developer won. i think they didn't mention it because it contradicts reddit. worse than useless
One of the first cases of AI being used in a court case had this exact problem come up. Leonard French and LegalEagle have great videos on it, lemme find the name of the case real quick... Edit: The law firm was Levidow, Levidow & Oberman, and their case was against Avianca Airlines. I'm not a lawyer so I'm unsure how to find the exact case.
The second person sounded so defeated when they said 'there it is... generative AI". imo they probably dislike 'generative' AI as much as the general population dislikes AI but the higher ups force them to pushing it.

As much as it is a laugh. I would prefer this than to the Apple conference style when everything is pre-recorded marketing. At least I know they were actually doing this live and have an actual product.
I love how increasingly ridiculous the alleged use cases for AI are getting. Asking a computer to check YOUR OWN PHYSICAL CALENDAR THAT YOU CAN SEE (or possibly one against the other) for a specific date is almost certainly slower and less reliable than doing it yourself, and might miss important context that you are aware of. This is already solved by scheduling polls anyways!!! How about allowing some compatibility outside of the walled garden so people can compare huh?? Although IMO nothing can top that ad with the dad deciding to help his daughter write a letter to her beloved star athlete, upon which he immediately proceeds to ask his phone to do it instead by feeding it HIS own ideas of what the letter should be.
i mean we've kinda reached the point with a lot of tech where the "ecosystem" is all that companies can sell to you. All modern mid to high end phones basically do the same thing, only some do things a little better. I think my LED rectangle does more than enough
@@goofyahh-kp9kx Agreed. And since ‘ecosystem’ is often just a politically-correct word for ‘monopoly’, this is somewhat of a problem IMO. I think we’re past the ‘1870 british rail boom’ phase where corporations get to do whatever they want for the sake of ‘progress’.
If it was, for example, capable of locating and fetching a photo of the calendary from my gallery and then reading from it, then I'd be very impressed. But no, I've got to take a photo, ask it the question and finally wait for the response... or lack thereof. This is a beta product that's close to being useful but not there yet.
Imma just say, if they kill Google Assistant when Gemeni is still so underbaked, I'm gonna be pretty annoyed. Imagine having one of the best assistant apps available, then showing off the 'shiny new AI-powered assistant' and it's pretty much worse in every way.
One of the percs of AI is that they always work and don't have day offs. Well, Copilot wasn't working for me yesterday, so i had to work the old way. Today it opens instantly, like nothing happened.
Google assistant was pretty shit compared to Google now or whatever it was. I can't even remember anymore. Don't get too attached, as they won't support it for long.
However I do love their vision. Google Assistant and Google Now were both very flawed in that you had to know exactly how to word a command in order for it to work. If they can get Gemini to convert natural language into commands, it would be amazing. But these things aren't easy, so I think it's wise to give this tech some time to work the kinks out.
i like it when things like this happen. it shows that the demo is actually real, and not staged. one of the most memorable demos i saw was uncharted being played, and their controller wasnt plugged in. the game didn't progress, because there was no one controlling it. i knew that it was real, and i remember that even more than the game itself!
real or not doesn’t matter if there never was a product to begin with, although a (supposedly) botched demo probably makes it easier to pretend like you can eventually deliver on your impossible and completely ridiculous promises

still not as awkward as that microsoft surface demo like a decade ago. Dude knew it was a horrible device and still tried to market it as the best thing ever.
Or do it live, because you know part of the audience will value a 99% functional real demo over a 100% functional but prerecorded demo. Doing it live just shows a level of trust in your own product that's hard to show in any other way.

Or, or. Test it. Have you never done live presentations at school? You rehearse it dozens of times. Or how about code presentations? You run the code hundreds of times, looking for bugs or certain input combinations that will crash your program, so you know what to watch out for. No reason a multi-billion company cannot do that.

Sometimes tech can be shy during live demos and there is really nothing you can do about it but brush it off. Once I worked on a project for a client, we were really excited of what we had and sent a couple of screenshots to the client and set up a meeting to demo the project. We tested the application for a week to ensure everything ran smoothly prior to the demo, and we were confident going in. When the demo started, the app refused to work, it had been working just fine 1 hour prior to the meeting but it did not work at all throughout the meeting, so we decided to end the meeting and reschedule for a demo. I kid you not the meeting ended and we were trying to figure out what was happened, five minutes after the meeting we reran the project and it was working normally again. Luckily the president and vp of the client we were working for had been programmers before so they totally understood.
I've always thought the risk/reward for live demos was terrible. If it works, cool, not a big deal, everyone will forget in 5 minutes. If it doesn't work, people will mock it for literal decades, just ask Apple.
Hey but you gotta pay respects that they still do that. If you look at apple all demos are prerecorded and well not even demos anymore. Thats why Apple Intelligence is still in the works and nowhere finished but this from google will ship basically now.

Just a month ago their AI model Alphazero I think won the silver prize in International mathmatical Olympiad. Google has Alphafold 3 which is one of the biggest tools in medical space. Google is #1 Meta #2 Rest everything.
