There’s been a lot of talk recently about AI being in a bubble. I had the opportunity to talk with Alger EVP and Portfolio Manager Dr. Ankur Crawford this week and she broke down why she believes we’re still in the early innings of AI. This was a great conversation, make sure you don’t miss it!
FYI - no clue why my voice sounded all deep on the Zoom recording…but her parts sounds great!

Great content as always! Maybe just an idea for next time. Maybe you could agree with the guest to a timeframe before like 30, 45, 60 minutes. This way you wouldn’t need to rush questions or use phrases like „don’t want to waste your time“ or similar. Just an idea, because I think your time and content is valuable enough that the guest should also appreciate to talk to your audience ;)

We did agree on a time, that was just my inexperience as an interviewer showing through. That was my issue, not hers

Great one Matt! Can you share a link to the podcast you and Dr. Crawford mentioned? Sounded like Clara…

It’s not a podcast it was the Klarna news story www.itpro.com/technology/artificial-intelligence/how-is-he-doing-this-marc-benioff-questions-klarna-ceo-s-scrapping-of-workday-salesforce-in-saas-consolidation-drive

I suppose she is talking her book and selling her fund though, of course
@mattderron
@mattderron День назад
As opposed to her believing in something different than the fund they created? I know this is hard for some people to believe, but just because someone creates something to sell doesn’t make it a scam. Do yourself a favor and go watch all of her CNBC interviews since 2022 and you’ll understand.

Love Dr Crawford, great interview. Early on you both made reference to Karna or something that sounds like that. Could you give me the exact name or link, thank you !!!

NVDIA like all semiconductor stocks is cyclical. Of course Microsoft will stop spending at some point. What happens in the next recession? If she thinks it’s ludicrous that the cycle won’t turn she doesn’t understand cyclicals or she’s just talking up her fund. Not a good look.
@mattderron
@mattderron 16 часов назад
I’m 100% positive she understands cyclicals and semis, but like she said in the interview the view is that the capex spend is going to continue much longer than some people are expecting. If the “what happened when X stops spending is 2-3 years away, what is the point of calling NVDA cyclical during a hyper growth phase? This is what I don’t understand about this argument. While their industry is cyclical we all know that AI has pushed them into hyper growth. They are clearly not cyclical now as that build out happens and has rocketed up their growth. The only argument is how long that will continue. She’s saying it’s just starting. Assuming any company is a lock to do anything past 3 years is wishful thinking IMO. Things are always changing. I think people assuming it’s a scam or “talking her book” because they don’t agree is crazy. Just because someone says semis are traditionally a cyclical industry doesn’t mean it’s relevant to what’s happening in that industry right now. This is why I added NVDA in March and made it my largest holding. Am I just talking my book?

Some interesting points but if you think AI will be able to create software “for free” anytime soon you clearly haven’t written a line of code in your life 😂 It’s very very far from being capable of this. It can do a lot and perhaps replace some engineers by improving the efficiency. I think this will be the impact in other fields as well. Where will things be in 10 years? Hard to tell. It will definitely bring the cost of creating software down.

This is the news event we were referencing- www.inc.com/sam-blum/klarna-plans-to-shut-down-saas-providers-and-replace-them-with-ai.html I started my career as a programmer and while I agree there’s more to it than just writing code, I also think this shows that it’s moving in that direction. Code itself is / will be a commodity it’ll be about whatever services around that code are easier / cheaper / best served by someone else versus yourself

AI is the future, how can it be a bubble
@kurniawanms2
@kurniawanms2 2 дня назад
Where were you in Internet bubble in late 90s? Internet was the future back in mid 1990s and it was proven correct. But many companies over-invested in internet infrastructure and internet e-commerce expecting high surge of ecommerce demand. The demand didn't materialize until many years later. All those companies that over-invested in the early stage of internet build up did not get their ROI back and their stocks collapsed. Many went bankrupt. Fast forward now, all these big tech companies (META< GOOGL, MSFT) are set to spend over $1 trillion for AI build up regardless if they will be able to recoup their investment or not. HOw long do you think they can spend hundred of billion of dollars every quarter without getting much return? It is an AI bubble now
