The problem with the "gardener" approach is that he gardener, like any other human, makes mistakes. For example, the Chinese high speed train system loses $70 million dollars a day. The west has not built as much because in places like the U.S. it is not economically feasible. In China the " gardener" decides that "we are going to grow these high speed trains," throws money at it, and then ends up with a very large system that cannot pay for itself. The same thing happened with housing and now with an overproduction of cars that they can't sell. So the "gardener" model works for a while, but in the end nature with very little influence from the gardener works best. Let things that can grow grow where they can rather than planting the wrong crop. Authoritarians always make huge bad decisions, like Putin invading Ukraine or Xi supporting Russia. Their very human ego gets in the way. The Chinese switched from patience to impatience under Xi. Now they are paying the price.
@@DeepSpaceus Yes, but it adds to China in so many other ways. Shanghai featured here is not a city of 25B, but 75B because of the HSR. This is how you build a prosperous land instead of warmongering. You leverage your population.
No one stays at the top, all empires fall. And the west is no exception. There is one flaw in your logic. Which is that Chinese have to follow the western way of doing business, which is the supply chain. Which china can avoid. Those thousands of suppliers will add to the cost. Thats why when you take for example a western tank would cost 2x or 3x of a similar capable Russian tank. So eventually the same thousands of suppliers in the huge echo system would be the reason of the downfall of western companies. So a simple attack on Taiwan would render the echo system useless. I was an HPC solution architect employee at one of the global vendors, and when there was issues in Chinese manufacturing, the delay of delivering infiniband was in some cases 1 year, that is if you order now, you will get it next year. Nvidia will not be able to maintain the global supply without china.
@UserOfAnEra Yes, it is possible that China will find a way to simplify the entire jungle to the level where it can be copied. Using some sort of Russian approach, where complex things are achieved in a very simple, previously unthought of, ways. If China manages to do that, the West is screwed.
@@Scripter_story eventually China will figure out how to do that. Nothing is promised by fate to the West. Also, AI systems will be used to solve their own problems, creating a self-feeding loop that will grow at exponential speed.

You show the Russian Elbrus 2C (90nm) as the latest Russian chip....but it is almost 15 years old. There is also the Elbrus-16s, 16nm. If you compare this to the average processor produced in the EU or UK this is not that bad.....STMicroelectronics currently at 40 nm. NxP a bit better but it is not European anymore.
@@Scripter_story TSMC is also producing the CPU's for Apple and many others. In the end you need lithography machines mainly produced in The Netherlands or Japan.

The West was built on Archimedes’s Principle of the Excluded Middle. Or stated that life is a zero sum game. This is very different from the Taoist view of dualism. Instead of offering win-win and BRI, the West offers domination and servitude. My homeland streets are flooded with the homeless and despair as fascism returns to the West. China has lifted 500M out of poverty. The Wealth of a nation is its human capital. China isn’t stealing its way to the top. Instead of counting supply chain links count research papers. Which society is leading? Also, the USA made China enemy #1 with Hillary Clinton’s pivot to Asia in 2012. This is not Putin’s achievement. Play chess. Play the long game. The USA had the control it needed of the oil fields, and was about to become energy wealthy again, not since WWII. Russia seemed a minor threat to be destabilized by coups and sowing division; NATO and Ukraine was a long-term plan. The NYSE and NASDAQ works on quarters, but the CIA, NSA, and deep state are playing the “great game”’ as the British called it. China’s rise had already begun. It was not going to the USA’s factory forever. 中國回來了！
