I'm in med school and I remember our psychiatry professor showing us this video in class ❤️❤️

After we got married I often asked my husband about his dreams and goals. He would suddenly go in to shell and stop talking to me cause he did not have any. It was sign of underlying depression. The depression worsened after couple of years and it was devastating. After psychiatric medication he is doing great and we together have lots of dreams.

When I realized that I was probably depressed and trying to motivate myself out of it was not going to work, I had to make some hard decisions and move back to my parents', because I thought staying alone might make things worse. Theu denied it until I got a seizure and I discussed it with my neurologist in front of them. They only came to accept it when the neurologist said that some people with epilepsy do experience depression and referred me to a psychologist. But my brother could not accept how I was when my mom had to go through cancer treatment and has been at odds with me ever since. Depression can be treated but it tests interpersonal relationships like nothing else. It was an extremely humbling experience, to understand that our own idea of self would be completely powerless if a few chemicals in our brain gets disrupted.

Hopefully the awareness about Typhoid is increasing albeit so slowly.

I can understand what Rick's father has been through. It's debilitating. Sometimes even brushing your teeth seems impossible.

Sometimes people don't know how to react when someone tells them that they are depressed, so they genuinely say that go outside, they don't really want to sound mean or ignorant.

Just saw it with you guys..my sister is a psychologist as well, and the hardest part of the job I think is to tackle the ignorance people have about these issues. Glad to see your take on the issue. Keep the reactions coming guys. Love! 😊❣😊

This is really true fact and a sad vedio. I had clinical depression in my early teens..faced the same questions over and over..got bullied a couple of tymz..it's worse when u hav no one to understand u.not a friend nor ur parents support u..and even therapy was denied because of the so called prestige and status. When made to stop my meds all of a sudden because of influence frm relatives the whole thing rebounded. It was hell.I remember those days.. It was an every day struggle. Now I understand myself better and I'm fyn..but I sincerely hope that atleast in future the stigma abt mental illness in Indian society will end completely. Thanks for reacting guys❤️

Hey Rick, my dad was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well and unfortunately, he refuses to see it as a disorder, rather sees it as a weakness. My grandpa behaved in a similar patronizing way to yours which is why dad sees it as a weakness and refuses to take medication or therapy. It's causing immense stress on my family and I don't know what to do. This video hit me hard. Would love to hear from you, how you handled this situation in your family.

I hope more people understand and take depression seriously. It is really disheartening when people say that "you're just being lazy" when actually it's the depression that drains you and you are constantly unhappy and unmotivated to do anything. I've made fun of people in the past who I thought were "acting depressed" until it hit me too. So, anyone who's reading this, I hope you never have to go through depression and I hope you are more empathetic towards people who are depressed.

The funny thing is, in reality in Indian families, if you're found smiling/laughing that actually is presumed as your fever is gone. So if you're sick, you should appear sad.

I was under clinical depression after a minor surgery...the one month I suffered with even getting out of bed was so so difficult and facing people and even mom or sisters for that matter. I didn’t talk to anyone just use to walk the whole day. I wanted someone to say it’s ok, and this will pass. And I gathered all my courage and I told my mom my fears coz I was overwhelmed by all emotions and I use to cry all day long. Once my mom heard what I had to say she took me to my native place and it was a remote village and there’s this ashram called tapovanam...the sheer aura and the environment was so divine and full of faith and belief that I was over my depression 60% of course I talked to doctor and was treating it medically also. But medicines help only this much. It was a power more above that helped me. Just wanted to share my story. Hope it helps someone in need.

All you need to do is just listen to them. People with depression don't want your advice or a cure from you. Just listen to them. As much as you want as a friend or family, you cannot do anything to suddenly cure them.

My depression and anxiety literally manifest physically. It is never sadness. The easiest I can explain what I feel like is a profound sense of emptiness, that makes me very nihilistic and then my anxiety triggers the guilt for being depressed and the cycle continues.

Well Mr. Miles you said you will be putting the links (Helpful depression links from the original AIB video) in the description box and I don't see any, nor have you provided the link to the original AIB video. I believe you should always give credit to the original content creators without worrying to lose the attention of your viewers. Why do it sometime feels like you are just making a fool out of the us Indians and you actually don't care about us?? Another similar instance that I recall currently is you adding blank space at the end of videos just to increase the duration of the video to above 10 mins so you can put more advertisements in it. I wish indian parents understand the perspective in depression. In last 20-30 years generation have changed vastly so they consider anything related to mind as madness. Depression is as terrible as cancer Or aids. It's neeed to be treated properly before it becomes chronic.
