The sad condition of Derawar Fort is disappointing. What is the ptdc and heritage board doing? Such utter neglect.

Nobody is doing anything. The government used to give the Abbasi family, I think, Rs 2 million annually for the upkeep of the fort. I have no idea if that is still on.

Sir, the Government in India would've ruined such a beautiful palace had they taken it over - the palaces of India that are now luxury hotels are run by the families that Inherited them, such as the Lake Palace in Udaipur that is managed by the Taj Group and Royal family of Mewar - once Indira Gandhi abolished the privy purses of Indian Royals a lot of them turned their palaces and havelis into Hotels to survive - i wonder why the descendants of this family don't do the same?

Sir, Another Good one. One question was was it the British or Greek historians who started referring to Takshashila as taxila( when and who)? Just curious, from a language enthusiast pov. As in India we always refer to it as Takshashila, I’m guessing so would be the case in the regional tongues of Pakistan

On the tongue of common folks Takshashila was Takhasila or Takhashila. The Greeks heard it as Taxila. They corrupted the name. We cannot be sure if it was Alexander and his team. Earlier about the year 520 BCE the Greek mariner Skylax reconnoitered and mapped the Indus and he surely would have passed through Takshashila and even his team could have corrupted the name. It would have gone into his report as Taxila which was inherited by Alexander and his team two centuries later.

سن 1970-75 کے دوران ناچیز کو والد گرامی مرحوم کے ساتھ اور بعد میں بسلسلہ بنک ملازمت بہاولپور میں قیام کا موقعہ ملا ۔ میں اکثر سینٹرل لائبریری بہاوپور جاتا تھا۔ اس جگہ بھی محل ایسی جھلکیاں پائی جاتی ھیں۔ آپ نے کمال آرکیٹکچرل مہارت سے محل کی جزئیات پر روشنی ڈالی ھے۔ یہاں ایک امر کی جانب توجہ دلانا چاہتا ھوں۔ آپ کے تبحر علمی کو چیلنج کرنے کا سوچ بھی نہیں سکتا۔ بہر کیف اپنی کم علمی کا ہی مظاہرہ سہی۔ اس ریاست کے ایمبلم کی جو توجیح کی بابت پیلی کن ( حواصل) آپ نے بیان کی ھے۔ اس میں تھوڑا سا اضافہ ھے۔ یعنی ریاست کے نواب اپنی رعایا کا ایسے ہی خیال رکھتے جیسے پیلیکن قحط سالی میں اپنی تیز چونچ سے اپنے سینے کا گوشت نوچ کر بھی اپنے بچوں کی زندگی کو قائم رکھتا ھے۔ اسی طرح نواب /حاکم بھی اپنی رعایا کا خیال رکھتے ھیں۔ واللہ اعلم بالصواب ۔
