Aiki Wrist Locks for BJJ: Sankyo. Looking at a specific, inward-turning wrist lock from aikijujutsu and aikido, with viable applications in BJJ and Gracie Jiu-jitsu. Great wrist control for jiu-jitsu and wrestling. Great self defense technique. #bjj #graciejiujitsu #aikijujutsu #daitoryu #aikido #sankyo #wristcontrol #selfdefense #grappling #wristlock #guard #submission

Awesome video! I'm an Aikido Brown belt, BJJ Blue belt, and my instructor has been encouraging me to play with wrist locks. Sankyo has the only one I've gotten, once from guard as you showed, but mostly when someone has my back, with 2 on 1 wrist control, then fighting to get their arm over my head. But now I'm the "Dirty little wrist locker"....

Great to hear. I definitely like the Sankyo from defending a choke as well.

I really like the way you teach and the different applications you show. I rewatched the video a number of times and it is quite helpful - i especially like the sankyo you show from back control

I appreciate that you are linking the gaps between BJJ & the Aiki arts. Unfortunately, so many people get so caught up on the less practical more traditional aspects of the Aiki arts and discredit everything in their curriculums. I think you are definitely showing more of the practical parts of the Aiki arts that more people need to see between the lines when they view the Aiki arts.

Thanks for the comment. I agree that many people want to dismiss the whole art when certain demonstrations seem unrealistic, but I am trying to show that techniques and principles are actually very effective.

when you do sankyo are you bending the wrist a bit? or just twisting?
@Aiki_and_Jiu
@Aiki_and_Jiu 2 года назад
It varies. I prefer to bend the wrist backwards as I twist the wrist, but twisting works just fine as well.

You wont catch the wrist of some sweaty guy who is punching you though. Not gonna happen.
@Aiki_and_Jiu

That’s right, which is why in Volume 2 of my “Never Fight in Summer” series, I specifically state not to fight sweaty guys who are punching you in the face...
@Aiki_and_Jiu
@Aiki_and_Jiu 2 года назад
In all seriousness though, yes it is very difficult to do both: wrist lock a very sweaty opponent, and/or catch a wrist when the opponent is punching. I wouldn’t recommend this wrist lock in those scenarios, but 100% if the opponent is attempting an Americana armlock 👍🏼

I wont try to catch wrist mid air. But try to grap resetting wrist at chest. But sweaty is sweaty. I wouldn't force it. Aikido is grappling

Your doing Sankyo wrong so suppose be close the person It is a joint of the wrist it is not at the wrist you hold the palm it can be use to disarm a knife I'm learning Aikido (Morihei Ueshiba)

Great to see you back in the "aiki-lab", hope to see more coming. I like your version of sankyo taking away the spin. Could you make a video where you show as many waza as possible you're able to pull off from a standing clinch?
@Aiki_and_Jiu
@Aiki_and_Jiu 2 года назад
Thanks! Glad to get some time to film a bit. There are some great techniques from clinch. Both when taking the clinch, as well as being put in the clinch. Front and side clinch.

@@Aiki_and_Jiu awesome, I really look forward to it. I think the clinch is the bridge to a lot of aikido techniques. Do you also train striking arts?

@@Aiki_and_Jiu perfect, you got all the aspect of fighting in order to experiment to make aikido stand a chance against mma. I understand you're on a journey with focusing on grappling at the moment, but it would be highly appreciated if you made 2 videos regarding aikido and striking, 1: tai sabaki (footwork), ma-ai (distancing) and shomen ate and other aikido strikes. 2: closing the distance into the clinch. I got more questions and I hope we stay in touch, looking forward to see more of your discoveries.

A brilliant martial artist once showed me something unorthodox, that if you're on bottom and apply these small wrist manipulations without keeping them stuck in guard you get a different effect that makes practically pop right off of you. Like a bottom escape without any need for hip movement.

SOLID DEMO!!! nicely shown and explained. if you don't mind some clarifications on the terminology for other viewers... kote gaeshi = wrist supination. neji kote gaeshi = turn out wrist gyaku kote gaeshi = reversed wrist turn out sankyo = third technique/principle (which is otherwise known as Yuki Chigae) Yuki Chigae = twsited wrist lock
@Aiki_and_Jiu
@Aiki_and_Jiu 2 года назад
Yes, by all means the clarification is welcomed. Most viewers will either know the general explanation or it will be new to them. Also, my assumption is most “aiki” viewers would understand sankyo rather than the Daito Ryu term maki zume.
