Way of the Martial Athlete is a RU-vid Series based on Octavio’s experience in health, physical training and martial arts.
As a consultant in Jeet Kune Do, Octavio helps people around the world to develop a physical framework for effective exercise and self-defense.
In this episode, Octavio travels to Japan and gets a closer look into Ueshiba Morihei’s Aikido. This story reveals important insights on how Aikido was created while proponents of MMA such as Joe Rogan, weigh in their criticism in fighting application.
Aikido Instructor Hyuga Amir from Hokkaido, guest appears in this wonderful story about passion, self-development and friendship that makes any martial artist learn from their own aspirations. Topics covered include Steven Seagal, Miyamoto Musashi and Ueshiba Morihei.

Have you read "In Search of the Warrior Spirit" - this Aikido instructor taught 25 Green Berets and their interactions that he had?

Hello Octavio. I love your work, you're one of my favorite martial artists. Your philosophies have helped inspire me to train and even innovate my own perspectives on finance. It's very exciting to see you have a 30 minute video, as I've always felt there hasn't been enough of your content; it's important to see true champions of JKD helping share and pass on this wisdom. Some parts of this video had audio only in the right channel. Perhaps one day we can cross paths and I can share my video expertise and benefit from your mastery. Cheers and thank you for your work!

I always wonder, those who belive in a display of energy and technique to the maximum power,as in contact sports, when you reach 80 years old, your physique in no longer strong, when your agility stops flowing, when your elasticity and resistence They cease to exist due to the inevitable age,and relent less time, when your joints hurt to breathe...How do you plan to defend your self?. Do you think that beacause you are old,no one will attack you,or will you be an easier pray?. The Tiger will not attack you immediately tell him that you are a vegetarian?. His answer will be to give up or die???...my answer is AIKIDO

Hyuga Amir was my first Aikido sensei almost 20 years ago, and he also showed me some of these stunning places in Iwama. I´m always happy to see him sharing his dedication, engament and spirit in the journey that he is on.

I really do hope that this inspires you to look more at Aikido. I know Dan Inosanto was training with Josh Gold briefly in order to improve his ukemi. Great video!

To further understand Seagal's unique branch of Aiki Budo, I'd recommend seeking any of Seagal's top black belt students (now accomplished instructors in their own right), possibly Larry Reynosa, Jorge Angulo, Haruo Matsuoka, Jaime Calderon, Craig Dunn, etc).

Beautiful presentation! I've been in Kung Fu for so long. Deflection and redirection is a part of it. But I've not found an art that does this to the extent that Aikido does. Redirection is the highest expression of technique. If I could find a teacher who teaches Aikido in the truly effective way you've shown here, I would follow that teacher. Where do you go to find the real, complete thing that has genuine martial effectiveness as well as philosophical attention? So much shadow without substance out there.
