I think the wrist and shoulder/lapel grabs also come up naturally in unarmed situations as a set up for a strike. However in these cases there might not be a reason to keep hanging on to the wrist if there is no knife in it. There are two reasons you might “legitimately” hold on to the unarmed hand: 1. you sense the hand will strike you in a tender place if you let go, or 2. you feel like the grab is helping you keep your balance at that moment.

Hey, I don't expect you to come out with many video after your previous long video. It's great but I prefer if you post regularly on every week or even month, just don't go hiatus till years. But in the end the choice is yours.

In the context of weapons retention and disarms....Aikido makes perfect sense. Aikido's detractors are either ignorant (more likely) or disingenuous about Aikido's purpose as primarily a weapon based art. Once again, magnificent teaching technique.

Aikido is most definitely NOT based on any competent handling of weapons. That is rubbish. Try any of this against someone resisting and enjoy the folly that will follow. You should know better. Nice dojo BTW.

@Mekugi I respect the fact that you have your own point of view Sir. I suppose that you could indeed be a Blade Master and Master Grappler. What Arts do you favor instead, Jujitsu? Kenjutsu? Or maybe you don't think Aikido is good for countering knives. You might be one of those guys from Kali that think only their style is effective.😋 Let's not be too mean to each other though. Let's try to be a little more constructive with our comments and replies. O.K.? Thanks.😁👍🏾

You said 3:06 "We don't have rear naked choke" 1. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-05hBVD0tHgg.html 2. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vrdoZjgB3UQ.html Actualy it looks like you do have. And RNC can be used in weapon contest if you do it fast and walk back with your opponent (I don't train aikido. Just do research)

I like your videos for the good technical explanation you give in them of everything you do but in general you are missing something. Aikido's techniques actually have more in common with WW2 combat tactics for military personnel rather than ancient samurai battlefield tactics. In fact Daito ryu doesn't seem to have a connection to samurai at all but that's another story. For the part about bear hugs, rnc etc. I've done most of those things and defense (some good some not so good) from them in my general Aikido training years ago. It's not something that hasn't been included in general training by various Aikido instructors around the world in the last 70 years (even before that) since WW2 ended. That fact is however, in general, Aikido instructors don't teach them on a regular basis and not in every country they visit (politics concerned with whitewashing pre-WW2 and WW2 Aikido history). You would be surprised how many people you can meet at Aikido seminars who have either never seen certain things done before or have seen them but when asked to explain them (how and why are they actually done) nobody seems to have a complete answer.

Thank you. I totally agree, no one has a complete answer, which is what I am working towards. Thank you for your time and comments.

He only said these attacks aren’t emphasized as much, not that they are never practiced. The rear bear hug is on the list of basic techniques at many aikido schools.

@@mikewiest5135 can be, but I never practiced it in any dojo where I was. so maybe the many is exagerated.
