Aikyamatya Suktam by Challakere Brothers
Aikyamatya suktam is the ultimate (the final) suktam appearing in Rigveda samhita Mandala 10, Suktam 191. There are 4 riks in this suktam.
Aikya signifies unity. Matya is acquiring the knowledge. Aikyamatya Suktam seeks the required knowledge to bring harmony/unity among people or relationships.
The first Rik is addressed to Shri Agni devata seeking wealth and prosperity. The rest of the riks are addressed to Samjnaana devata seeking unity in intentions, wishes, prayers, thoughts, actions, opinions just as the devatas concurring accepted their portion of the yajna sacrifice. Agni devata, the showerer of benefits, brings prosperity as and when the offerings in the yagna get ignited. Thereupon, assembly of devatas unitedly concur and accept each of their proportionate share of the offering, when a vedic hymn is recited during the yagna/sacrifice. Likewise, this suktam seeks for its worshippers to have a common purpose and desire. With the universal desire in each of our hearts, we can execute a common purpose jointly as one community. The harmony in the hearts and the minds of people to accomplish a common goal is highlighted here in a sublime way.
