Aileen Wuornos | Confessions of a Serial Killer | S1E05

Few serial killers have divided opinion quite like Aileen Wuornos. And few executions of a murderer have elicited such sympathy.
Despite having gunned down 6 clients when working as a prostitute she eventually confessed to her crimes. But when she did so it was through a case of pure entrapment: talking down a bugged telephone line to save her lover Tyria Moore from being implicated in the crimes. But even her admission of guilt was not enough to save her from the green mile.

I think however scarred a human being Aileen was, she would not have killed had she not met Tyria Moore, the one person she loved more than life and could not lose, Tyria loved to drink and party and Aileen resorted to robbing and killing the men so she could provide for her with whatever she wanted....and that one person betrayed her! Our environments cannot immediately rule out or be used as a way to justify our actions. She made a choice, everytime after the first murder, she put herself in the same spots, isolated, and with people she knew could be dangerous and almost took enjoyment in getting to throw her anger on them when she was given the opportunity. She could have arguably been given a life sentence but any less would be making unexceptable exceptions. No matter what environment she grow up in she clearly had an understanding of what she was doing and that it was wrong.

@@rhondasisco-cleveland2665 Yes, and we also know that people understand the basics of what's right and wrong and she made it quite obvious she knew she was wrong to kill them. After the first and second times she still put herself in the most dangerous and unpredictable situations she could have, knowing the situation could end the same way as before. She took it as far as possible too by causing as much damage as she could at a time by spending up all her shells shooting each victim multiple times. She could not hide behind her past as making the murders she committed any more acceptable then another murder, especially when she admits she knew it was wrong. It's okay to hold sympathy for her background because it does play a role in her actions but it is does take complete authority in her decisions. There is a great mystery in the human mind but one thing is clear and that all murderers and criminals understand the wrongs their committing which is why they work so hard to cover them up. She even asked that one girl whether or not someone was listening to them showing she understood the severity of her multiple crimes.
@rhondasisco-cleveland2665

@@jaredbanister6880 not sympathy, EMPATHY. I don’t think any of us can, or should, sit in judgment. We weren’t there. We weren’t subjected to the same horrors. We DONT KNOW if we would have come out better, under exactly the same circumstances. Justice was served, why do we feel we have the right to continue to condemn her? How does that help? “Judge not, lest ye be judged.” It’s forbidden, so we are only hurting ourselves. We don’t have the excuse that we are crying out for justice, she already paid the highest price. What Christ expects from us is humility, kindness & forgiveness. Self righteousness is a sin. Judgment is a sin. Unforgivness is a sin. You can do what’s you want, but my mission is to try to turn the tide, for you and whoever else reads it. I’m sticking with my statement. I choose justice with mercy, understanding, and humility. I follow God, she is gone from the earth and only God SHOULD be judging her now. It’s HIS place. (No, it’s not easy, it’s work, but it’s His work; so I keep trying.) You choose who to follow, but do so understanding what you are choosing. Who you are choosing. You can’t say no one tried to awaken you. Do what you will.
@jaredbanister6880
@jaredbanister6880 2 года назад
@@rhondasisco-cleveland2665 That's right judgement was served and therefore we should not be trying to be defending her when she met it clear multiple times she understood tmwhat she was doing. Yes, we do not know how we would come out but just like the detective normally not as murderers which she is and since she did not try anything she was doing to avoid committing the same crime was not very ashamed. You cannot go around saying that she does not bear full responsibility for her actions, her choices. God also spoke to the Hebrews about punishing those who committed murder, and he did not say unless you deem their background as an excuse for their actions. There is no reason to make excuses for her and perhaps you assume I'm being harsh but even Biblically we are never told to punish differently based on someone's background. We are judged on our sins alone not those done against us in our past. The past is not an excuse, and if anything normally leads people to try to oftentimes be different then those who mistreated them. If she had killed those men in self defense she would not have tried to hide the events. Even in the Bible when the Israelites took Jericho they were told that if anyone took anything from the city they'd be killed, and when a man took some things from the city wreckage he was killed as they'd told him and everyone else.

Anyone see the movie..."the Monster?" I'm not sure how true or of it the movie followed her life story than I would will atate...Society has done this girl wrong. If she had the resources we do today, I believe her life would of turned out better. And she would of not left victims along the way. When a girl has to face the abuse she did, it's no wonder I state that her family, community and law enforcement created their own monster that haunted men, who she thought they were going to harm her. Also, I think she got a gun because one man had forced himself on her when she already please her client, this client is who she sees in all men. Not to mention her childhood.

This woman was different, she killed MEN. Think of the crimes that are more harshly punished. 30 years for armed robbery vs 3 years for child molestation or rape? Crimes against MEN frighten MEN, who makes the laws and statutes? Men value money and THEMSELVES. Plus, they are less likely to be victims of sexual assault & MORE LIKELY TO BE PERPETRATORS. Their empathies lay with THEMSELVES. Crimes against MEN are more important and more harshly punished. IMO

I think you can have some sympathy for her while also thinking she needed to be punished for killing the men (bar perhaps the first). Perhaps punishment should have been life in jail, Period. You have to be rather cold-hearted yourself to not have any sympathy for her. But I don’t think it’s cold-hearted to think she should still face punishment for six or so pretty cold-blooded murders. OK, my sympathy for some of her victims is a bit less because they don’t seem completely “innocent “ themselves. But they all deserved to be murdered ? That’s pushing plausibility past the breaking point. If she had stopped after the first scuzzy guy she’d have a real case for self-defense. But she didn’t . She frankly probably liked “turning the tables “ . Maybe it even surprised her how much she liked it. As said here she had been abused so much she felt more than OK with striking back at these rather convenient victims.

I absolutely believe it is a damn shame her grandfather couldn’t be executed with her. He put this all in motion, without his EVIL she most likely would never have murdered. I’m sure he faced accountability before our creator. Luke 17:2 “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.”

I feel like all it would've taken was someone to truly love and uplift her. She was so desperate for love and kindness that she killed to keep her gf happy and high. She suffered great trauma and never had a safety net. I think the mixture of desperation, PTSD and mental illness caused her to go down this path. My heart goes out to the victims and her issues don't excuse her murders. But she didn't have to get to this point and that's what makes her as unique as she is pitiful.

I truly feel like the 1st murder was self defense (he was known to have raped and had been brutal to women in the past), once that happened and she took his stuff afterward, then she saw how she would be able to provide for Ty. I think she probably felt these guys deserved it since she had been abused, beaten, and exploited her entire life by men. In the future, I'm in the hope w/ the help of more advanced & sophisticated med. devices such as an advanced F.MRI ( Functional MRI ), PET Scan, etc., to check their prefrontal or preorbital lobe of the brain, we could come up w/ more accurate etiology or cause, diagnosis & possibly treatment.
