Such a fabulous episode! Nancy is GENIUS! Unbelievable designs, techniques…sigh… Although I’ve never knitted any of Nancy’s patterns (…and WHY NOT…???) Aimee is right: sometimes things “look” complicated but are very easy to do. How very true! I am ready to hear about finishing techniques/tips. I learned to knit pre-you tube (and internet) from books, magazines and I have avoided any pieced garments. Thanks Aimee! I’ll watch the KnitLabs, fun & I just might learn something… always want to learn, I’m like a sponge!

Thank you for the show. I learned intarsia through Kaffe Fassett in the 90-s and I never stopped using it. Never understand the fear of it, it can be messy but patience is golden. Thanks for all the inspiration.

not only did I knit the same Kaffe Fassette designs and others but never had top down patterns like today as all were pieced even your Nordic yolk...

Sometimes naivety is golden. I saw a scarf called Chatham, an intarsiaI beautiful scarf. Its a Malabrigo pattern. It is a four color all over intarsia with a very interesting construction. I really enjoyed making it, it looked up video help here on youtube and Wall-ain a few days to a couple weeks I had a beautiful scarf. Later when I started to knit more things I kept hearing people had feared trying Intarsia. I never knew anyone feared it. I needed to learn it, it was all new to me, it was just my second project. I love the outcome, its a very useful technique that may interesting items can be made using it. My first project was a chevron lace baby blanket for my daughters first baby. To be fare I am a retired artist, art instructor, Beta tester, demonstrator, author.
@aimeesknitlab
@aimeesknitlab Год назад
I learned Intarsia early too. It was the technique I used to knit a baby hat for my son. I believe this was an early knitting project after I picked it up again after a hiatus as a teenager/young adult. I just learned the technique like learning short rows. Just dug in and did it. It wasn’t perfect but it was fun! I am so excited to knit Intarsia with everyone this fall!
@RiotousAssembly
@RiotousAssembly Год назад
Love the new show ❤. I learned intarsia from Kaffe too and knit a lot of it in the ‘90’s. I love the results and still make an occasional piece in intarsia, but it isn’t my favourite type of colourwork as I find other techniques more relaxing and meditative.

Guys "il colpo d'aria" is a really serious thing in Italy as well! Kids can "easily die" out of those (according mother's opinion). Her in Finland it is not, but wind is strong enough for draft to be forgotten and I wear scarves in summer as well unless the temp is above 25C. (By the way... 18C is not cold... Below 10is starting to be chilly, below 0 is starting to be cold... -10 is cold) 😂😂😂 Come to Finland and you will see. Trust me I am an Italian expat in Finland.

Ok, it looks to me like what Nancy calls the “background” could also be called an “alternating weft.” It’s being knit and/or carried across the rows, is it not (in a reverse Stockinette whereas the other weft is knitted to stand out like a horizontal stripe)? Whereas the “warps” are the vertical knitted stripes being created via intarsia? So the “weft” and the “background” are both being carried all the way across the rows, isn’t that the case? At least, that makes sense and looks like it to me. Thanks.
